It is NOT unrestricted! There are many laws concerning land use and planning. Especially in the town proper. We also have pretty restrictive food regulations concerning what can be produced on farm. Please do your research before moving or buying into land you can’t build on. Just fyi

The bluegrass jam at Zuma Cafe in Marshall from 6 to 8pm on the third Thursday of the month is excellent, some of the best bluegrass I've heard in WNC, well worth the drive to check out the interesting little town of Marshall.

Great video! Thank you! Through many years I have witnessed artist communities making a place fun and enjoyable and then the big money investors take it over and the artists have to move on since it becomes unaffordable. I hope Marshall stays small, fun and affordable.

A Marshall friend said “I don’t know how to feel about this.” Well, I know how I feel about it: they spend the first half of the video showing how “quirky” and “fun” the town of Marshall is, then they show a property for sale that is of the type that prices the people who live in Marshall right out of it.

Which is exactly what videos like this create. The *exact* impact you are talking about. This county has restrictions on land use and food production. They are exploiting Marshall and it’s gross.

I went to Presbyterian Church my Grand Parents owned Balsam Tourist Home now The Marshall House my Grandfather owned Penland Department Store currently ran by my Cousins. My Grand mother had a Besuty Shop next door. My Uncke ran the Cleaners Laundry mat back in the day. Marshall had changed wow had grown! Hello to my Family!

I just moved to Leicester last year and I love it here. I’m really really happy here. I moved over here from Tennessee. It’s about an hour and 20 minutes from where I used to live where my son lives and I love being over here. It’s much more diverse than Tennessee.

I can't believe how much Marshall has changed (for the better, in my opinion). I remember being there about 10 yrs ago and the town had a very tired, has-been kind of industrial feel, not vibrant at all, but quiet and peaceful. Just salt of the earth working class folks, not that there's anything wrong with that, of course! Now, with all the artists and alternative lifestyle people moving in, the vibe is totally different and very cool. River Arts District part 2?

Grew up on Lower Brush Creek. Just between Marshall and Walnut. My Daddy’s family was many generations from Shelton Laurel. Mother taught school in Madison for 30+ years.

Lived in Asheville briefly 91-92. After my husband retires over the next 10 years, we plan on relocating to eastern area of TN. Just hope we can afford to live there then. Enjoyed this video. We are just outside Charlotte now..which is already very over populated,. I wish we could move now.

Bring your cowboy boots and your southern draw! I'm glad to see growth there, but will be surprised if the COUNTRY folks ever give up their no zoned properties and right to have animals everywhere! Country folks rule in Marshal, and may they ever reign.

Not that Marshall folks don’t welcome newcomers. They definitely do. But the more people they have moving into $600k homes, the fewer folks can afford to live there that make Marshall worth living in.

@@snadlg If I can get what I want for less that is definitely ok with me. When we sell our current house and move we will have around $600,000 for a new house. It would be more, but we're gonna use some of the proceeds to pay off a car loan. We considered Weaverville, but home prices there have really jumped over the last 20 years. Also, don't worry about us. Any purchase we would make will probably not turn Marshall into the next sprawling suburban-boomtown-hellscape. However we have some friends in Wake and Durham Counties who have expressed an interest in retiring near Asheville. They have SERIOUS money to invest, so you probably need to worry about THEM (not us).

And now, people will move there and ruin it. It's happening in my town too...the culture will never be the same. It'd be fine if people came to be a part of the community...but they don't..they come in and want to 'fix' it, and it ends up like the crummy place they left.

Marshall might be a good place to retire! Are bears a problem? We are getting up in age, and we can't run very fast? Also, what about cougars? Are they faster than bears? I don't think we can outrun cougars. I saw a movie about

Those bears only want cake. So if you are running with cake in your hand it could be a problem. Otherwise, you’re golden. No cougars seen. 😅

Asheville has a bigger bear problem. As long as you don’t hang out bird feeders it isn’t a major problem. Also, they don’t like dogs.

Madison County is in large part national forest with 3 towns. Yes, there are bears. This video is misleading in multiple ways.
