Biggest Hmong New Year around the world: 1. Phonsavan 2. MN (St. Paul). Even though it is indoor 3. Fresno, CA. It's outdoor with buildings 4. Honorable mention: The Hmong Freedom Festival in MN during the weekend of July. This use to be part of the Hmong MN New Year because in the early 1980s, Hmong MN can't do the sports and activities during the winter when New Year is being celebrated, so community leaders put the sports and activities in the summer months, which happened to get the weekend of July 4th (coincide with the US 4th of July Independence Day). It has been called/referred to as the "Hmong 4th of July Sports Tournaments etc...for many years (from the 1980s to 2000s), in the mid two 2000a, because of corruption of money embezzlement among the leaders, in recent years it fall to new leaders/organizer, many non-Hmong, they change the name to "Hmong Freedom Festival" and turn it more into a capitalistic events, monopolized it into a money-making event.

My information is a bit dated --- as I could only talk about some years ago, having known both the St. Paul RiverCenter Hmong New Year and the Fresno one --- but the St. Paul RiverCenter place, as a building, could be put in one tiny corner of the Fairground at the Fresno Hmong New Year. There is no question that over the years (the last 20 or so years), tens of thousands of Hmong have moved north, to the Upper Mid West, from California... especially from backward-ish Central Valley, to seek better jobs in the Minnesota-Wisconsin area....And so in St Paul, the concentration of Hmong likely is much higher than what it is in Fresno. But, again, in terms of the two exhibition spaces --- RiverCenter versus Fresno Fairground --- there's no comparison, with the RiverCenter being less than 1/5 of the open space at the Fresno Fairground; and, yes, BOTH places are packed virtually every time during the celebration of the Hmong New Year in either city.... very much like what described here, NOW IN LAO, in the walking paths and main arenas in Phonsavan.... Anyway, this was from LAST year, 2021 - 2022, first year the New Year was allowed to open again.... and it still was quite packed, being in the middle of Covid. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dcxtkge_U6c.html And, not unlike the Phonsavan Hmong New Year here, on your Channel, Fresno, as noted, also is outdoors, so you have to park more than a mile away, for the most part...

You're right. More people should go to the Hmong New Years in Laos. It's a beautiful country with beautiful people. It's similar to Thailand but lesser known. Please go and support the good people there. 🥰 By the way the girl in black at 19:12 is influence by the Miao people of Guizhou province in China. When you feel like traveling, you should go to Guizhou, China. They have an even more traditional Hmong New Year and it's even bigger since they number up to four million people. 👍

The traditions being followed are a beautiful thing. After watching these videos,,how can a person not be intrigued to the point of learning more. I may joke about the beauties, but I have nothing but respect. That's like the native American ladies I know that handcraft traditional clothing,,it a pure shit ton of work. The Hmong ladies who make these clothes deserve recognition and respect for keeping traditions alive. It's always the women who work the hardest

Happy NewYear Todd and Nini. We plan a trip over to VTE next December. Vy's father who has Sadly passed years ago gave his home to one of his sons in VTE. It's on the Mekong and is quite stunning I must say. I can't wait to get back there again. Our place is north of Pakse also on the Mekong. I miss it immensely and can't wait to get back there.
