My lab work always shows my folate as in range. But my genetics test showed that I have the mthfr gene mutation. Is that possible? Thx

I just ordered a Homocysteine test through Walkinlabs.com for like 57 bucks.. I think that should be sufficient to start with..

What about the gene test for MTHFR?

Hey! I came across a video for that on MOKSHA Life called What's my MTHFR status.

Basically, you can upload 23andme or AncestryDNA to a few websites. Usually free, but some charge a nominal fee. StrateGene is the premium option.

Am I wrong? But is there a test, to test your natural folate that you get from food that is easier for your body to handle vs folic acid( man made)? Or is it the same test?

Right....how do you get your doctor to "look at" all this shit and your insurance to cover it?

Generally you can't. If you work with a doctor who will do it, you will probably pay more out of pocket. Or you can order from DTC companies. It's unlikely you have insurance that will cover all the bloodwork useful for managing nutritional status.

Something so common cannot be called a “mutation”

Christopher L. Well, semantics, but really every gene in a human is a mutation. Allele would be better from a technical perspective but then again semantics is not my goal in these “lite” videos.

"Polymorphism" might work here nicely.

Your comment is ridiculous

My primary care doc refused to pursue my methylation status because she said it was "so common." Consequently...I do not see her as having the necessary professional curiosity to be a "good doc." I think of her, and thus use her, as a "clock-punching basic needs provider." Once a year basic blood work to satisfy my insurance carrier. Fortunately...I have a professionally curious Endocrinologist who will entertain my requests. :)
