Bread addiction is actually a genius replacement for alcoholism because it's really bad for birds since it fills them up without providing them any of the nutrients they need to survive.
Interesting to note if the detective had Auto-brewery syndrome a bread addiction would be almost the same as alcohol addiction . . . Auto-brewery syndrome means excess yeast in your system turns carbohydrates into alcohol.
I loved that the bread addiction wasn't just a one-off joke. He walks into the office kitchen, and describes the smell of "cheap white toast" like a noir detective about to fall off the wagon.
I think Ducktective is a name owned by Disney through Gravity Falls, but otherwise yeah would've been a great name for this. Honestly wasn't sure about the deep voice they gave him, but it's hilarious and fits the noir detective vibe.
That's not how copyright law works. You can't own words, just brands, and a fake tv show inside another show doesn't have enough basis to be consider a brand.
Ducktective was the titular lead character of show within a show in Gravity Falls. Alex Hirsch might be okay with other people using the name but Disney is very territorial.

Neither have any more claim over the word ducktective than they have over the word mystery shack.
If you haven't played it yet, a fun, relatively short game that's similar to Untitled Goose Game is Little Kitty, Big City. You play as a small black cat trying to find your way home, although you spend most of that time being a typical cat. Super cute.
So happy to have a new video from Roses pop up! I've been rewatching a lot of past "Murder She Wrote" videos recently as comfort food for my brain, so this is a treat! 😊
The hardboiled voice acting is so fun for this concept! I'm so going to check it out. The characters look straight out of the OG Paper Mario except animals. Great review Roses!
00:04 This is your channel. You can upload whatever the hell you want to it. People subscribe because they care about you & want to hear what you have to say. You need to try not being so hard on yourself over nothing. I'm already watching this. I'm not going to abandon you because you reviewed a independent game. Video game reviews are one of the rocks of this channel. If you seriously worry people will get upset & leave because you run your own channel how you want to, they aren't worthy of your time.
I have no words for how happy it makes me that you’re reviewing a game! I know you kinda want to move past this content generally, but I’m always happy to hear you talk about games you’re passionate about!
I can see the developer releasing bite sized episodes, then releasing a compilation. You can never have too many Anthropomorphic detectives. A round of a-paws for (Jim Henson’s) Dog City.
I wasn't ready for the voice acting of the Duck to go that hard, but I now want to play it just to experience his rough and tumble, down on his luck-arc. When you're lost in the pond that is The City, can a regular duck possibly swim his way up? Or is his bread-heavy body always gonna sink down to the bottom...
I finished this game a few days ago and I absolutely loved it. I played it all in one go because I just didn't want to stop. I'm glad you enjoyed it just as much.
ROSES!!!!!!! You rock, do you know that? I could listen to you talk about virtually any subject, but of course I love the point-and-click genre, and other story-driven games/movies/shows, and you always have both an interesting and intuitive take on the subject, which must come naturally since that's extremely hard to fake. I love your videos!
Too many animal detectives? I don't understand this concept. Seriously though, this looks great. I've been playing a lot of adorable games this year (Lil Gator Game, Little Kitty Big City, Princess Peach, etc), this seems on theme for me, I have to give it a go!
Funny seeing someone talk about this game after I had auditioned for a couple of the characters last year. Never made it in and hadn't heard much about it since the audition process had finished, so nice to see it's doing well.
Hey, Roses, have you checked out Emerald City Confidential? It's another "dark in a family-friendly" sort of detective game, and the style feels reminiscent of classic LucasArts games. It takes place in a film noir version of the Wizard of Oz (drawing more from the books than the films, but featuring an original story). Your detective character can even cast spells! Just thought it might be up your alley.
Just watched gab smolders play this last week I think and it was so cute. Didn’t expect him to have that voice 😂 game play is very reminiscent of case of the golden idol
Great video. I am going to buy this game on Switch this weekend. I've been looking for something cute and fun, and I also struggle to have enough time for playing more involved, elaborate games. Duck Detective looks like just the ticket! 😀
If you loved this games deduction system, I highly recommend The Case of the Golden Idol. Similar gameplay, but you’re deducing who is who and what has happened in a vignette and specifically how someone died and was killed. And it all connects to this conspiracy surrounding a golden idol. Fantastic game, a bit more mature than Duck Detective, but still a great time.
I finally stopped procrastinating and watched your last three videos. Thanks ADHD! Ya know, for a second I thought it was going to turn out that you were playing the cat, and I would have been so hyped for that. Have you ever thought of trying your hand at voice acting? I mean, with the amount of humor you put into your scripts you've definitely got some of the necessary skills already. I can't remember if you did any cross over gags back in the Channel Awesome days, but those are technically experience too.
Always great to see an adventure game review from you, Roses. It saddened me when you dropped the classic game reviews, so I'm glad we can still count on a moder review from time to time!
I actually own this game bought it on a whim for it looked fun, was not disappointed. if they make this game into a series i would be happy to play the new games.
I love it! The voice acting voices matched a lot of the voices in the Grimoire games. Especially Tangle Tower. 😁 As an aside, the next Grimoire is coming out soon The Mermaid Mask. I love these adventure games.
I haven't played any of the Grimoire games myself (yet) but The Marmaid Mask has been getting my attention. Trying to spread word of it where I can alongside other games. Such as Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Cookie Cutter, Soulstice, Zet Zillions, My Familiair, Immortal: And the Death that Follows, Genokids and more. Where it concerns upcoming point-and-clicks, are you by any chance aware of Near-Mage and Loco Motive?
@@jurtheorc8117 Near-mage feels like an HP magic schol clone. I will reserve judgement, but my anticipation is meh. Loco Motive looks interesting. An Agatha Christy clone….love those.
I saw this game when searching the nintendo shop yesterday. I was drawn to it because the visuals reminded me of Sam and Max. Now that I've seen your review, I think I'll probably end up buying it, it looks fun.
Sam n Max and SpyFox were so much fun for me and my kids. I'm glad to know there are still great games like that being made. Thanks for the review, cheers!
The fact it's not even titter but BLUESKY is very funny to me. I only struggled with two puzzles- the one about the SILLY LETTER becoming a THREATENING NOTE and the code to the safe lol. It wasn't until the like fourth time I looked at the note on Freddy's floor that I understood what it was asking me, because the Duck Detective in the hints asks if there's anything to count so I was counting coffee cups and post-its. I hope this game gets more cases
If I had a dime for every time I've come accross a duck detective, I would have 2 dimes, which doesn't seems like much, but it's weird that it has happened to me twice, right?
A wonderful game, we are having the game and the developer showcase at our indie event Brilliant Indie Treasures, in July. Should be a great time for all.
