Basically since my diagnosis I rapidly put on weight and although have been up and down I have really struggled with this.
I am determined to change this over the coming months with better eating trialling different diets and getting strictly back into exercise.
Being overweight sucks (even if people won't tell you that). I am a huge believer accepting yourself BUT being overweight is not reaching your full potential at all, and personally it is a big point in my life.
Thanks
As many say Russia has started its offensive there are a few critical pieces that are under heavy fighting, Today we explore why this City in the Donetsk oblast could be critical to both Ukraine and Russia.
G'day Legends, If you're new here thanks for coming across, I served in the Australian Infantry from 2014-2021, With a tour to Afghanistan as a crew commander of a Armoured Mobility Vehicle.
Upon my Return I was unexpectedly diagnosed with a Incurable and Inoperable Brain tumour that is slowly killing me. I was also awarded the Queens Order of Australia Medal (OAM) hence the post nominals after my name. Then Being medically separated from the Army I flew to Ukraine in 2022 for 6.5months and now make content full time. I really appreciate you being here Thankyou

Keep at it brother. Intermittent and extended fasting combined with low carb is great for weight loss and you might want to look into the studies on their effects on tumour growth, you should get benefits there too.

you need to warm your muscles up man, either a hot shower or hot bath then when you get out do some thorough stretching exercises this takes the shrink out of your muscles and allows the fibres to reset, and that takes the hurt out of it

Good Stuff Willy.. I've made some changes myself over the last 6 weeks, doing "OMAD" Keto, and balancing electrolytes (less sodium salt, more potassium salt, reduces edema "water weight") doing more cardio than strength work (back and old lower limb issues, waiting on surgery).. down from 108kg to 96 .. feeling better for it..

I was the fittest person I knew pre- pandemic. The work from home world and other life developments has taken all that lifestyle from me and I'm a 10th of the bloke I was at 42 year's old. I've been trying to break the mental barrier to getting it back for a bit now, but watching you here getting after it is a great boost. I'm fortunate in that I dont get super heavy if I stop, so hopefully its a shorter journey back! Best of luck with the journey - the hardest part (resetting the habit) is done for you!

I was told about intermittent fasting from a friend of mine. I was skeptical to say the least. Well, 2 months later and I'm down near 45 lbs. and feel great most days. So, I know it works. Keep with it. Your an inspiration for us all. Just a suggestion. Bike instead of running for now. It'll be less stressful on your foot and you'll still get the heart rate going. Then go back to running when your foot is better.

Willy, I have battled acoustic neuromas for 30 yrs. I was 29, a professional sailor training for the Olympics and working on my airline pilots license. God had other plans evidently, so I go on fighting and giving thanks for each day. The surgery was very bad , they have come a long way since but before mine, they could not operate on the skull base tumors at all so not many people with similar surgeries have made it as far as me, being an athlete was part of the difference. I returned to top-level racing after five years with some success but with immense struggle. I am not well but manage to cram in a lot every day, sometimes gritting through the pain. Being a soldiers soldier is what will help you manage your days to be fruitful and inspiring to others as you are to me. Love you mate, Mark p.s. The former No. 2 in the world in small cats is a Sydney guy and my 3 decade arch-rival. I thought I was going to have one more shot at him last year in the most grueling event our sport has, The Worrell 1000 Fort Laurderdale Fl. to Virginia Beach Va., I was in condition but he has early onset dementia and with that I am retired. Been slipping quite a bit since, but it is strange how I have now outlived half of my close friends and competitors. Maybe we will meet around the same time and be best mates in a better place, at peace, free from war.

I was just under 90kg when I was discharged due to injury. I blew out to 114kg in the years that followed, and yo-yo'd around there for a bit while trying to lose weight. In the end I realised I didn't wake up fat. It happened over time. And that's the same way I'm going to lose it. I'm down to 99kg now. That took around 18-24 months. I hope to go down to 90kg over the next 18-24 months. I get how hard it is. Going from elite fitness, several hours of PT a day, the warrior psyche, and then to having an injury, illness, or disability and having to develop a whole new identity away from the army. It's like going from 109 to zero overnight. It's super tough. It's a massive thing to put it all out there on your journey. So many need it. Especially ex digs. Well done that man.

You are a dead-set legend. Getting started on training again is the hardest thing especially when you have left it a long time and it's just so easy to give up, with your body screaming at you every second to stop. I find it hard to not push myself overly hard every time I get back into it and then I'm wrecked for days and days. Regarding what you were saying about the temporary weight gain, can confirm that's true. Also, food consumption is the main factor in weight gain because if you consume more than you need your body will convert the excess into fat. And the biggest contributor to fat gain is over-consumption of carbohydrates. At one point, at my least healthy, I weighed 105kg. I'm only 175cm so that gives you an idea how much of a whale boi I was and I can tell you I felt every one of those kilos. It was so bad. Anyway, I worked hard, doing 2-3km every morning and evening and doing sets of 20 sit ups, push ups and squats (without weight) in every down moment and finally my weight returned to a somewhat normal level, around 75-80kg (though I'm currently 83), and I've mostly been able to maintain it simply by eating as little food as possible. I don't eat breakfast or lunch and my dinner is usually pretty light. This might sound unhealthy but since I no longer work in construction I can't justify the intake; it'll just become fat. It is actually a good thing to feel a little hungry most of the time. Completely agree re: life is meant to be lived so indulgences every now and then are fine. However, it just is too easy for such things to become habit and before you know it you're a balloon again. It's impressive that you are still able to exercise such discipline over yourself given the hardships you've been through but as you already know, you'll feel so much better on the other side of it. So keep it up, you bloody legend.

I can't say i'm an expert but I always thought short sprints are best. If you look at the 100 or 200 meter runners they seem much healthier vs the longer distance runners. There is a lot of talk about anaerobic exercise not being too good and too much stress on the body for too long of a duration. One thing for sure running is good mentally. Good job though Willy, i'm sure pretty much everyone is cheering you on to beat the odds! Life long and prosper buddy!
