It is also talked about a lot by many korean broadcasts or youtubers. The only those who doesn't support the idea are mainly older generations or those who are very religious. Prematerial sex is not really seen as heavy as a sin, but more like, emotional connection is most important and genuine form of love and we don't have it if we can't see them as a future spouse, at least. Again, there are many exceptions but having casual(sex with benefits) relationship is not seen as a marriage material. I was in Europe(Ireland and Britain for 5 years intotal) and from what I heard and saw, Irish and British people seem to test the sex compatibility before getting into serious relationship. In Japan, we normally only kiss after kokuhaku/confession of love and after both confirm we are officially a couple. Some people say "I see you as my future spouse. Some(juts some) people take advantage of it and just enjoy sex by hinting marriage and then run away. As in the former comment, nowadays, some people take sex as a means of expressing affection so it's getting more open and liberal, but it's still generallly seen as quite serious stuff, and at the same time sex without marriage is fine as long as they feel comfortable without it(emotional compability and trust comes first).

I live here now. People have sex, but the economy plus dating challenges (some of which she mentioned) are to blame for the birth rate. Overly passive men, more independent women, and lots of establishments selling sex so you don't have to go find a partner to get some. When everyone holds off on having kids because of the economy, it exacerbates the issue.

Hmm... well as a Korean woman who lives in Korea, I say there's clear difference between my generation (1990-1996) to those (2003+). Sex is definitely taboo. No one mentions this to any of our parents, even cousins. No family knows. No elderly knows. People stare at you for PDA. I bet you don't go around your house telling your parents you are sleeping around with different people. A lot of Korean couples find it difficult to get approval from their parents to live in the same apartment before marriage. Maybe the people you live around are different, but with my friend group, work colleagues, and church community, I'd say what she says is pretty accurate. Except for 1 girl who is very career focused, everyone I know wants to get married. It's that they don't want kids.

"I think they would say they are spending time with you and staying royal and showing devotions, so you should be able to make a guess".
