Hi Nat, thanks so much for this video, it is something that has troubled me for a while as I have my trip coming up to Sri Lanka. Many people have told me about the way tourists are treated in Sri Lanka and I'm sorry this has happened to you. What is more concerning is reading these comments which reflects your video well. Hopefully I will have a better experience while visiting this beautiful country. It's a shame how people can bring down their own country's name and try to blame tourists who are being honest and are spending money there which is helping their economy.

Negombo isnt really a place to ''relax''. You should probably do your research and find a better area that suits you. Ideally the south or areas like arugam bay or the hill country (ella/hatton/nuwara eliya etc). You are in the wrong area

Hi Nat....First of all thanks for visiting Sri Lanka. Well all due respect, you felt uncomfortable due to "Lack of experience in Travelling to many countries" .... If you had travel to many countries then you wouldn't feel like this. We are a very hospitable country. Just check videos of many famous Vloggers who had travelled repeatedly to Sri Lanka...you might getter better picture. Anyways sorry that you had to feel uncomfortable...but just try visiting other countries as well so that you could compare. Take care.

Hey Nat, it's definitely a cultural difference. Those questions are very normal of men or women foreigners. You have to remember, they had revolutions in Sri Lanka and their tourism industry was hit hard along with the pandemic. They're still trying to encourage people back. Seeing a young foreign woman travel alone, with or without a camera , they're going to be curious and want your business. You should watch Emeka's videos in Sri Lanka. He had the same experience. In fact, he had one bad encounter, and it went into the newspapers and media. The media, government, and police there are very focused about treating tourists well.

She just don't looks that much foreign (She looks more Sri Lankan than average Sri Lankans ) to get such attention. Just my opinion

Hello Nat, I came across a video done by you in Oct 29, 2019 during a visit you had done to Syria and mentioned that you have Syrian Ancestry/Heritage (both of your Maternal Grandparents were born and raised in Syria). There is a very high possibility that during your visit to Sri Lanka, people in Sri Lankan may have thought that you are Sri Lankan, as many who met you may have easily thought that you have Sri Lankan Ancestry and belong to the Sri Lankan Burgher Ethnic Community. Sri Lankans who belong to the Burgher ethnic community are a small Eurasian ethnic group in Sri Lanka descended from Portuguese, Dutch, British and other Europeans who settled in Ceylon (Sri Lanka as it was called before 1972) before getting Independence from Britain in 1948. Possibly you might have met many Sri Lankan Australians and have a few friends who are originally from Sri Lanka or/and have Sri Lankan heritage, including some from the Sri Lankan Burgher Ethnic Community. Not sure if this video was done recently or done many months in the past, while I came across a Facebook page called "Get Fat With Nat " which had a Facebook post done on December 18, 2022 titled "Shades of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 - Culinary edition. #getfatwithnat " with some beautiful photographs of culinary delicacies you had in Sri Lanka. . Hope you enjoyed your stay in Sri Lanka and will consider to travel to Sri Lankan again many times in the future. It will be nice if you will be able to #VisitSriLanka again joining some of your friends and/or family from Australia. If you have any Sri Lankan Australian friends, maybe you can visit joining them on a trip to Sri Lanka, and might also be able to join them to travel around the country and stay and meet some of their relatives in Sri Lanka and experience their kind Sri Lankan hospitality. After watching this video, I was able to enjoy many other of your videos done by you in the past that are available on this RU-vid Channel of yours. True travelers respect the beauty and dignity of every place they visit, uplifting the voices of its people and celebrating the richness of its culture. To see the best in others is to bring out the best in ourselves.Respect goes both ways. If you visit a country and can't appreciate its people and culture, then you should rethink why you're traveling in the first place. Negativity reflects poorly on the one spreading it, not on those it's aimed at.If you can't show respect to the people and culture of a country, maybe you should stay home. Spreading negativity only shows your own ignorance and arrogance, not any flaws in the place you're visiting.

I think you are showing this area near negombo.. I too had a bad experience finding a homestay nearby with the help of an auto driver at around 1am, He wanted me to cancel my existing reservation for his suggested hotel but I did not agree. There are some idiots are there in every asian country to spoil the names of innocent people.. But I am sure, most of the Srilankan people are good and welcoming.

Negambo is a fishing/trade town. Very busy.

If you are trying to relax Negombo is really not the place, I would go to the hill country (Nuwara Eliya, Hatton, Matale and Kandy) also the South is really good as well (Hikkaduwa, Weligama, Mirissa and Galle) and also the east side as well (Trincomalee, Arugambay).

Then who told you to go there..

You probably need to learn a thing or two from that lady who walked after you near that construction site. She clearly stands out more than you but didn't get the same reactions that you got from those people. Wonder why??

Sri Lanka is one of the top rated countries for tourists to visit. People like you who always complain should book your travel through a travel agent and go on a high end tour. This country was bankrupt few years ago. People were struggling to meet their ends. Now only the people are trying earn something to live a normal life. First before you travel get first hand info about the country . You go to the States you will still see people with different attitude's too. Negombo is good for a one night stay.

The lack of cultural humility, empathy, or kindness that you have on display in this video is beyond appalling. Remember you are a guest in that country--you don't go to someone else's house and insult the host. You have a responsibility to learn about the country and its people before you travel. If you didn't want to be "bothered" by locals, you should have selected a destination that allowed you to enjoy that. Your behavior was incredibly inappropriate.

I am sorry to hear of your discomfort and unpleasant experiences in this vlog, which projects a lot of negativity. Negombo is a highly commercial and populous area where people are in a rat race, trying to make money and make ends meet. Not quite the area for peace and quiet. After a draining experience in Lebanon, you should have done some research before coming to Sri Lanka, which would have helped you have a pleasant experience in places to your liking. It is stressful to watch videos like this and I stopped watching a few minutes into this. Hope you would enjoy the rest of your stay (if you are still here) and would think of visiting us again in the future. No offence intended. Take care and stay safe.
