Why We Should Colonize Titan Rather Than Mars!

Some say we're getting it all wrong. They argue that instead of establishing bases on the Moon or Mars, we should be aiming for Titan. They even claim that the easiest and most cost-effective way to explore Titan would be a pair of wings and fly. Thanks to its small size and low density, Titan has a surface gravity that's only 14% of Earth's, slightly less than our Moon. The high ratio of atmospheric density to surface gravity significantly reduces the wingspan needed for an airplane to stay aloft, meaning a human could sustain flight with a type of wing suit easily manufactured with today's technology. Afraid of falling? Don't be.
The free-fall acceleration on Titan is seven times lower than on Earth, and the terminal velocity, considering air resistance, is 10 times lower. If you fell from any height, you wouldn't hit the ground at more than 18 km/h or about 11 mph. All this sounds amazing, but it doesn't mean that Elon Musk or NASA will be changing their mission plans anytime soon. Unfortunately, Titan is a distant world, 15 times farther than Mars. Its favorable characteristics aren't enough to justify the at least $700 billion it would take to land there. But in just 10 years and with $100 billion, we could plant a flag on Mars. In this video, brought to you as usual by Insane Curiosity, we'll present Titan as it is, listing its advantages and disadvantages. It's up to you to judge its appeal for us earthlings.

I brought my 10-year-old son to Ted Kennedy space Center last summer, and I recorded it and uploaded it. He met astronaut Ken Camron, and he was explaining to ken why humans will live on Titan. He only had a limited time to speak to him, but ken told me to bring him back so he could speak to him more. My son wants to work for NASA or SpaceX when he gets older. He truly does believe that humans will live on Titan. It was explaining why it’s the most habitable place for humans to live in the universe

The Earth is, but we are trying to destroy it! That's why they are spending billions to find another, so we can ruin that one too!

The only problem with a Titan colony is if 14 percent gravity is enough. We are still unaware if 35 percent Mars gravity is enough to live and procreate. However if it do happens that it is enough, then Titan is definitely a possibility for a self sustaining colony. Same pressure means if there is a habitat breach nothing serious wont happen. No pressurized chambers or hatches - a door and a mechanism for oxygen purification will be enough. Similarly no pressure suits needed, just heated winter ones and an oxygen mask. No radiation either like on Mars or the Moon. And atmosphere is protective too and not corrosive or poisonous to us . Harsh cold is the next problem after gravity. However that is solvable even with today's tech. We have suits that endure space and there is 100 degrees colder. Energy on Titan is abundant ( gas and alcohols). Burning it will release CO2 in atmosphere which we can further feed to greenhouses to produce and release oxygen potentially making the athmo breathable in the long run. So yes a very interesting world and a target for us after we take Mars

I wouldn't want to be on Mars when Phobos falls.

Why would Earth spend many trillions of dollars on a colony on Mars or Titan? Let’s colonize Antartica! It will cost a lot less and be more survivable. The worst day in Antartica is more survivable than the best days on Mars or Titan! And we won’t bankrupt the Earth in the process.

Well, do YOU have a ship that can get us there faster than going to Mars would take? Everyone says this, but nobody seems to have a way to get there. Points for not being one of those reds saying "Let's just stay on Earth forever and be pets of the State" though. At least there's that.

I do say Mars is not worth the trouble, maybe in the distant future, we can dig up minerals and fuels if Mars has any. on the other hand, titan is so active and much earth-like in it's early stages.

Compared to Mars, the atmospherics on Titan are far more forgiving. Protection would be about shelter from the cold rather than zero pressure. It’s so far out in deep space it just wouldn’t be possible to sustain as a colony with our present day technology.

In a previous video, the water cycle might not be based on heat, but sun light. The light energy causes evaporation and might be a more energy efficient method to desalination of sea water.

Thanks for your comment! You're right, the water cycle relies on sunlight for evaporation, which is an energy-efficient way to desalinate seawater.

The clickbait title provokingly claims that Titan be more favorable, whereas the introduction text leaves it open. Of course it is nonsense to try the distant Titan prior to having conquered Mars. The aviation and space pioneers first flew over the English Channel (1909), then over the Atlantic (1919 and 1927), then to the Moon (1969), not vice versa.

Read the book of Revelation. Sorry but the evil side of humanity ends on our earth when Jesus stands on the Mt of Olives in the end. Christians get raptured first. We will not inhabit another planet.

So why is he still waiting? The "gospel" has already been preached worldwide via online, and yet he's still sitting on his thumbs apparently. I say we forget about it, pull up the stakes and go out into the universe to start a new chapter for our species. Rather than wait for someone else to fix us, let's start over and fix ourselves along the way while building something new.
