I'm just kinda sad over how incredibly visually boring high level HC play turned out to be like. I remember in week one people were labbing these sick roll setups or BRC stomp loops to open people up and now it's just endless negative edge shoot reload pressure. I'm just rambling and this is kind of hard to explain, but it feels like high level HC is very demanding execution wise and Deb is an amazing player that makes him look borderline broken, but the optimized gameplay doesn't look as impressive as it actually is

I was really interested in what you touched on briefly about how zoners keep people from running their normal game and how that skews their perspective on perceived character strength. Would love to hear you expound more on that some time.

I booted up strive for the first time in 3 weeks a few days ago and not even 30s after joining the lobby this millia walks up and starts in on me about "forever alone Potemkin main" "braindead char" "fuckin PB go brrr asshole". I couldn't stop laughing. We hadn't even played a set yet. I hadn't even played Pot in 2 months, they would have washed me it was just so hilarious I couldn't handle it

I do need to know the counter play to that one clip of DEB just shoving the Ram in the corner and holding her there for nearly a full minute, slowly chipping her to death and looping with the focus super. Confirming into unburstable 50% damage off of just about anything is still pretty goofy, but my main issue is how safe HC's pressure seems.

I don't like the Elphelt comparisons to Happy Chaos cuz Elphelt's sniper is probably the worst part of her kit and not even used for zoning, it's basically just for unblockables

This reminds me of a tournament match I had for Rivals of Aether a few years ago. If I remember correctly, I had to play Kragg vs Clairen in winner's side of bracket. I think I won like 3-2 or 3-1, which was pretty good for me because my opponent was solid and this was a bad matchup for Kragg. All I'm thinking was how much I hate Clairen, and I overhear my opponent talking to someone else saying "God, I hate Kragg", which made me laugh a little inside.

HC is probably way worse at high level, but at the point where I’m at, on floor 9-10, it feels a lot like fighting Axl. Just wait for the gaps in his pressure, get in his face, and his defense just crumbles

happy is rough to deal with on an eco round but that goes without saying. i think if the complainers balanced their economy better they'd have a better time with the matchup.

I think the journey for Chaos going from "yet another stupid weak character" to "oh my god please stop hitting me full screen and running up and doing sick evil nasty pressure while twerking all over me" was an interesting one. I knew this guy was gonna be strong after about an hour of the lab, since the immediate things he could do (poke into pressure, amazing ground control, cycle his specials really fast) were obvious, bottom-level things in his character that were easy to do. If they were strong, his high-level tech was assuredly stronger. And as Deb shows: yeah, he's fucking strong. For what its worth, i'm not sure Chaos should be nerfed. While the 9-1 Nago matchup IS very funny, Nago has pretty good matchups otherwise. A counterpick existing for him is totally valid. Likewise, he's very dependent on every element of his kit working in unison together, so I feel like nerfing one function could have a dramatic impact on his playstyle. The ONLY thing I could reasonably see nerfed is his reload speed, but even then he's reliant on it. Or people could learn the matchup, but that's hard.

People hate HC because you can't lab against his strong stuff without being able to do his strong stuff. That and he just doesn't follow the de facto rules of the game. He's basically a BB character with HS being the Drive button.

i play Nago and Hc is annoying AF to me but i don't se him busted or broken or anything like that, just a hard MU, i think every character has some hard MU here and there, the matter is the fact that most (or all) Nago MUs usually force the other player to worry about that while nago just play his own game and now Chaos is the other side of the coin for nago, now im the one who needs to play my opponent game (and thats fine btw)

I still find Nago to be the most frustrating character to fight against for me. Mostly because the momentum is just so demoralizing. My brain just freezes against his weird pressure.

This is why I'm glad I play Jack-O'. Nobody complains about Jack-O'. Probably because seeing a Jack-O' is like finding a unicorn.

As a nago who got shot full screen by debs hc and experienced it first hand, ill hold my judgement as i scream internally till all the quirks of the match-up is figured out.

I think Happy Chaos is fine and I want Elphelt added too. I know people hate fighting them but I think they're really cool. Plus I also feel a little bad for Elphelt, she's the only Valentine from Xrd that didn't make it to Strive lol

I have a lot of ideas on what could be changed about Strive. I don't think any of them should happen/don't necessarily want them to happen. But I do think them. One idea I had was that Happy Chaos' reload could be changed so that every bullet after the first one takes slightly longer than it does now. So the first bullet still reloads in 20 frames but every one after that reloads in 25 or something. I thought of this as a way to keep clean hit reload intact but make it harder to get multiple bullets back off a single clean hit. Again, I have no desire for this to actually happen, but if they're gonna nerf him, it's gotta be stuff that doesn't take away from what people find so fun about him. I have like two more I thought of.

It's easy to get frustrated, but I always try my best to recenter my thoughts and voice my frustrations from a personal perspective, e.g. "I struggle with finding an opening in Sol's onslaught to break out and take my turn" instead of just "man, fuck sol, character's busted, anyone who plays him is carried" Maybe Sol is busted, but just complaining about it isn't going to help me learn what I can do to counterplay him

I stream a lot of happy chaos in celestial matches and I even get guys that come in, say Happy Chaos is "brain dead and doesn't need labbing" and then they just dip, strive players have a weak mental game

I see a lot of clips of people fighting Arakune in my youtube feed and the title is always something like "Arakune players killed my parents and called me a bitch." I play Arakune in the lab and I choose to embrace it.

I can't even get to the complaining about HC because the crappy online and lobbies gatekeep me.

I'm sick of people complaining about lack of character variety then when they get it they hate it. They want everyone to play different but they want to be able to beat every character they fight the same way.

IMO the curse is the issue, anything else can be played around with pros and cons, but when you can spam curse on the enemy it is almost GG unless you screw it. The mirror is absolute horror so I am skipping Chaos but I can't skip the fights against him, at least I know him better but still a good player will usually beat me unless he messes up or I find a moment a I can get closer and pressure him (and if he is really good he anyway will survive and we will be at the start spot again with me being behind) The worst part is... playing against him is not fun at all, I got demolished sometimes by Sol or Ram, mixed to death by Chipp or Millia, zoned as hell by Axl but none of that can be compared to playing against Chaos...

It is really weird, but that just shows people don't complain about strong characters only. Anything that is mildy annoying and requires a bit labtime is too strong for them. If I cannot break through the wall with my head, then the wall needs to be nerfed instead of going around it.

The only thing I like about Happy Chaos is that he stole Elphelt's place in the roster Edit: I forgot he's also voiced by Robbie Daymond , love him

Claiming that someone is carried by or benefits unfairly from their character choice in a game as young as GG Strive is not a clever or smart a thing to say. You are saying that someone is winning only because of your ignorance which is self defeating, dismissive of any skill they display, and translates to the truth of all scrubs "you only won because I lost"

One of my friends complains about my Annie in skull girls and yes she's probably not the most balanced character but like this man's complains about everything in skull girls it's ridiculous. I literally just don't use Annie against him anymore because of his complaining on her but he complains about fuukua and Valentine as well and those are who I like to play. Valentine isn't even a high tier and he still complains. I can make an essay about all the stuff he complains about and he generally thinks Skullgirls is a poorly designed game. He only played Tekken up till now and he keeps trying to compare the systems in both games and I try to tell him they are 2 separate entities and you can't play them like they are the same. Every complaint he has about Skullgirls I don't have at all. A big thing is he thinks the game eats his inputs. He's used to Tekken where you input a chain of attacks and then your character does them where as Skullgirls works off of cancelling the animation of one move into another so it's not eating his inputs, he's just not inputting them properly but no matter what I say he thinks the game is badly designed and finds some other reason to complain. "Why don't all characters have an armored move like Tekken" "why can you not tech all throws like Tekken" "why doesn't every character have a dp" "why didn't the tutorial tell me this". For the last one I'll admit there are a couple things here and there missing from the tutorial that probably should be there but even after I explained them to him he still wants to complain about them not being there. I get it, it's not there but you know it now so get over it. For all the other complaints I posted here I'm guessing anyone who has played 2d fighting games can answer all of those just like I did for him. Another one is "why can you choose who gets snapped back in instead of it being ordered" that's an interesting one I'll admit as both systems could work but one encourages you to make a choice while the other takes that freedom away. If you snap your opponents character out and couldn't choose who comes in then you also shouldn't be able to manually switch to any character you want is my thought on that but since you can choose who you switch to then if you get snapped out for Ballance I'm okay with your opponent getting to choose plus they spent meter to do this in the first place and whoever they just snapped out starts to Regen any red health so it's still a more neutral state and yes they can maybe get a mix up on your entry but after that they put the game back to neutral. This is a deep conversation about some of the games mechanics but if I try to explain this to him then he'll just say he doesn't care and say it should be ordered without taking into account all the other systems and mechanics at play. I love skullgirls and I can understand someone not liking something and that's fine but saying a game is poorly designed and has bad mechanics just because your not used to it and don't care to learn the system and just want to complain about everything even if it's really not a problem is something I don't like. Not every game is for everyone but dissing the game because of your lack of understanding is just wrong.

I don't understand how people who are into fighting games get so hung up on unfair characters. Bad matchups and top tiers are present in every game that ever existed, so you'd think they'd just go try another genre if they think it's inherently too unfair. Even though there's still bad matchups and top tiers in MOBA's, RTS's, and even shooters with characters you pick. Although I guess in most shooters you might be ok, since the players will have access to more of the same stuff.

I don't think there's anything wrong with complaining...IF you then go out and put in the work. Sometimes talking about how annoying a character is is cathartic in the same way that cussing a lot after stubbing my toe makes me feel a little better. But if you use the complaint as an excuse to give up...bruh.
