I know a cop who off record said to me that the question you should be asking is why would an officer following procedure need you to turn off your camera. The officer said you should be very concerned if an officer is insisting you turn off a recording device. Be polite and respectful and comply with everything else but never turn off the recording device.
People just love saying "just comply", that isnt about complying, its about protecting your rights. Allowing them to step over your rights is not complying.

The police officer I was talking to meant there are procedures when an officer has an encounter with a citizen they follow for their safety and yours. In my opinion these are important. Stay relaxed, getting aggressive or confrontational your asking for trouble. You shouldn't be looking to be confrontational. If the officer asks you to stand in a specific place do so because it's for your safety and theirs. Don't reach in your pockets without notifying the officer. Be polite. You don't have to let them search your vehicle or person without probable cause. The issue with ID i would get to know the laws in your area and country. If they ask what your doing just give them the quick and friendly such as I'm just out for a walk filming some interesting stuff,walking my dog, waiting for a friend, resting, having a smoke (if you smoke) etc.

Never, ever stop recording when dealing with peace officers {ahem}, I mean law enforcers, and never point your camera down or away. You have every right to film them, and it's for your own protection.
Good advice and very true. I rarely have any issues with LE but last time I was pulled over and had no idea why.Had not broken any traffic Laws. So soon as they hit the blue lights I turned on my Cam It ended up getting a ticket thrown out and pretty sure cop got in trouble. As I was filming he told me I was not allowed to film LE and he had a body can onto record so i didn't need to. I was polite but said I'm not trying to argue but I disagree Sir,I do have the right to film. I kept asking what was the reason I was pulled and he would never say for about 10min then finally he says "Just cause I can" I acted like I turn the cam off but kept it recording and placed it enough to hear clear and see us both. Wh3n I asked, So you just pulled me for no reason at all? He screwed up and said yep basically. He ended up only issuing me a No seat belt ticket and I surprised him when I said I'm not paying this and will fight it and BTW I never stopped recording. Guy went nuts and threaten to arrest me. Took the video to court and was thrown out within 5Min. Another time was over having my Pistol in my governor but I have a CWP so that didn't go any further than the cop and I talking and him admiring the Handgun Always record anything with police PPl!
Yep once they detained me for no reason and I could see through a window that they took everything out of my car and smashed my new $300 danner boots then took all the contents and put the under the spare tire in the trunk and let me go and we’re super dicks about it. Another time they made me stand in the sun with no water in 105+ degree weather as they tore my car apart and let their dog scratch my car then when I wanted a complaint form they told me they had 3 witnesses that said the dog didn’t scratch it and told me they’d arrest me for falsifying a report if I filed. Every time that bus gets messed with in any way it has to be swept for hidden GPS trackers, audio, video, still picture equipment including old fashion film cameras on timers, RF receiver and transmitter devices which is a hassle and it can hold up people getting to work on time. People have tried doing that in the past whether nefariously for espionage purposes or just being a nosy goofball. Granted they should build a secure barn and keep the bus in there out of sight and reach but they don't. They do instruct residents to keep an eye on it and report anything that looks like suspicious activity and they do have hidden surveillance equipment overlooking it and other areas around town that is monitored 24/7. Same with the town of Rachel. Also most of the residents there work at area 51 and them and their families could be put at risk if the wrong people see them on video, ID them and try to compromise them in some way. You'll get hassled if you hang around outside the Janet terminal in Vegas videoing people going in and out of there as well.

Thing about it though is that if a cop tries to search their vehicle and he is already acting strange he could possibly plant drugs in their car that’s why people don’t want cops to search their cars now

Well, I'm living in Joshua Tree but MY is only like 40 minutes from me. As for the cops not showing up...thats actually pretty typical around here. They are either too slow to respond or don't show up at all. It's a weird situation with them. Plus, I've heard from the local community that they are rude. Haha

That cop guy was suspicious. He was acting really weird just because of a camera it wasn't even in his face the way he wanted it. He was probably looking for a dumb reason to try and arrest you guys..
That cop made me so angry! They have NO right to ask you to turn off your camera! It's probably the only thing that was protecting you at the time! A LOT of witnesses in your live stream, so if things had escalated even further, and you ended up in court, the cops would have been screwed! I love your channel.

A few years ago I was driving home from Calexico on hwy8. I wanted to explore since I had all day to drive, I took an exit onto an old Hwy and the same thing happened to me in that same town with probably the same border patrol offices. I noticed a truck flowing me from a distance and later on several SUVs came out of nowhere and pulled me over because I was driving through the same town... Man something is going on there that they do this to everyone who doesn't live there.
One of the lesser reasons I love your channel is that you are a father and daughter having fun. You are very lucky to have such a great relationship ( not that it is luck , rather that you work at it and deserve it ).

About the border patrol one...I got curious, so I did a little research, and apparently, in California, they CAN pull you over and ticket you if they feel your GPS is mounted too high on the windshield and could cause 'obstruction of vision' while driving. California law is that GPS units on the windshield have to be as low as possible to avoid obstructed vision. Which, I guess kinda makes sense. And to be fair, that close to the border, you're probably the only people they've pulled over in awhile that weren't actually trying to smuggle something or someone into the US. I was pulled over once in Oklahoma after a cop watched me circle around the same area like 5 times around 3 in the morning. I was trying to find an address to pick up a drunk friend since he was too wasted to drive. Only problem was in the city I was in, there were 2 different 24th streets, on completely opposite sides of town, and he didn't tell me which one it was. So, I was driving in circles looking for this place and not able to find it on one end of town, and the cop pulled me over thinking I might be casing the area for robbery or something, since apparently I used the same bank parking lot to turn around each time without really noticing. Lol. As far as the area 51 thing...He definitely came on way too strong, very gung ho about thinking everything was sketchy about you guys being there. To be fair, given that it's a bus that does go into a military installation, it does look pretty suspicious if somebody is hanging around it and looking inside it, etc, so I feel like someone calling to get it checked on is pretty legit to ensure the safety of the personnel and the installation, because you just really never know, and there have been several attempts in the past to either gain access to military bases, or to sabotage miltary equipment by crazy people for whatever reasons. But, while I will give them leeway for legitimately needing to check it out just to be on the safe side, he was definitely out of line for trying to take the camera or manhandle you into putting it away.
At no point in time should you ever turn off your own camera. You have the right to film everything and it is even more crucial when dealing with officer's. Officer's need to be held accountable for their wrong doings. Without being held accountable they will continue to violate your rights. At no point in time do you have to id yourself without reasonable articulate suspension that a crime is about to be committed, is being committed, or has been committed. Never give up your rights. Officer's are so used to people not challenging them over their rights that they are power/eggo hungry.

I just want to shed some light on why the sheriff found you suspicious in the last bit of the video. I used to work for a government contractor producing WMDs and we received a lot of mandatory security training and briefs with the Navy. We were told that people who are even a little too curious were to be reported and avoided. You wouldn't believe the kinds of casual-appearing individuals who are on the Chinese or Russian payroll, and they will take and use any information they can get, even information that seems unimportant to us. While you guys technically did nothing wrong, filming these workers' drop-off location, potentially their faces, and the fact they live in the area can be extremely valuable information to the wrong kind of people. Anyway, I love your videos and they make me want to go exploring too! Watching this video got my adrenaline going. Cheers!

law enforcement give you an order (even if it's unlawful) just do it? Nope, sorry. Unlawful violations of rights should never be followed. If the officer wants to go completely criminal (use physical threat of force) you have no choice but to comply, then look for your day in court.
