In this episode of The Simpsons Theory, I outline the four episodes that paint the most consistent future for The Simpsons family. It's so tight, that it actually led to a potential ending for Matt Groening's The Simpsons, if it wasn't renewed. These future episode include Future Drama, Holidays of Future Passed, and Days of Future Future.

Personally, I do like the idea of Bart being an underachiever in his late 20s/early 30s, and getting his shit together later on in life, eventually becoming Chief of Justice. If you connect that part of the story into the timeline you're left with a very possitive message coming from Bart: it's never too late to become something great.

Completely agree with you on hating Bart and Lisa's futures - that the series has portrayed so far, anyway. Like you said, just because Bart isn't "book smart" doesn't mean he's doomed to be a failure. He's charismatic, funny, well-liked... these can all still lead to success. For Lisa, I've always seen her as the one character that will escape Springfield and do big great things with her life. I've read numerous times over the years that Matt Groening himself feels this way too. So for the future episodes to portray her as sticking around, getting stuck with Milhouse (or even Nelson for that matter), just seems like a huge middle finger to Lisa and her whole character :/

One thing The Simpsons does well, but often quite subtly, is show that Bart is failed by a restrictive reductive education system whereby if you don't gel with it (like Lisa does) it leaves you behind. There's been some future episodes (maybe these) where he's shown to have found a calling as an artist, but the education system doesn't value that so he struggles in it. Yeah he acts up, but it's not totally his fault. And the treehouse scene in Holidays of Future Past is one of my favourites from the show because it's a very good example of grown up siblings dealing with a family Christmas.

This is brilliant! 🤯 I always wondered how those future episodes fit together. The "Gendr Timeline" makes so much sense (even though I still hate Milhouse for Lisa!). And you're right, "Holidays of Future Past" would have been the perfect ending. Maybe they should just retcon everything and say that's the one true future! 🤔 Great analysis, and super entertaining! 👍

Hey Lydia! I loved that original future video so I’m glad all of yours and James’ hard work paid off with so many views that’s amazing! If you didn’t see my comment that I left on your community tab post when you were celebrating the milestones, I’m also an editor so I know a little bit about how hard this stuff can be sometimes! I agree with you that this timeline does make the most continuity sense and I also thoroughly agree with you that it really really sucks! All of them deserve so much better than what is shown in this timeline, but at least as you pointed out, Bart does become a better father and better person by the end of it, and also as you pointed out holidays of future past by itself is a good standalone episode if that would’ve been ending for the show! Myself personally, though I hope that whenever it does come that time that we might see a better more definitive ending future timeline after everything we’ve been through with everyone because this one is just a plainlet down overall for sure!

I rather not have Lisa end up with Millhouse, considering they're cousins and all the problems you listed. "When Nelson Met Lisa" had the most wholesome outcome for Lisa's future and if you mix it with the story from Barthood, it becomes even more perfect. You get Lisa, who is genuinely happy with her soulmate and you get Bart, who took his artistic skills to a whole new level and I can just imagine him becoming a famous artist. You could also have Bart have children with Jenda too, but have it that Bart's always a good dad to his kids. You can also have that Lisa becomes president and has Zia, but she is actually biologically related to both Lisa and Nelson.

I wondered how if none of Milhouse's genetic material was used, why does Zia have the blue hair like Milhouse? And then I realized something, perhaps Zia would have inherited it from Lisa, whose maternal aunts, Patty and Selma both have similar hair, as does her mother Marge.

Also the fact that Milhouse agrees to stick around and willingly raise a daughter that isn't his because Lisa had to have a clone of herself. While Nelson abandoned his four biological children isn't at all mentioned. I think Zia is a clone and Zia dyed a streak of blue in her hair as a teenager as a homage to her father who raised and loves her.

They should have. Also the fact Milhouse stuck around and raised a child that wasn't biologically his because Lisa wanted a clone of herself and Nelson abandons his four biological children. Should speak volumes for the whole shipper debate but yet it doesn't.

I agree with you on Lisa being with Millhouse. Nelson has a troubled life and is rough around the edges, but he’s shown to have a really good heart underneath. Nelson seems like that kid who’s a pain in the ass, but he has a family member or friend that he hates to disappoint and even when he messes up, he’s shown to treat Lisa and people around him pretty well when he’s not being a bully.

My dream scenario is Bart goes back to school, or works in a law office, eventually becoming a lawyer. He’s not overeager but he works hard and makes a name for himself as a defense attorney. Lisa becomes president, and as a result, Bart becomes a public figure, not for his own doing. But that prominence get’s him noticed, and he earns a judgeship and later, becomes a SCOTUS member then Chief Justice. His path isn’t one of urgency, the way Lisa’s is. She moved swiftly, and does great things. Bart finds his path later, and accomplishes just as much but at a slower pace. I would love to see Former Pres. Lisa and Chief Justice Bart bickering somewhere public, just like the best friend siblings they really are.

Considering his personality and history I always liked the idea that Bart specialized in civil rights constitutional law. So he was sort of a natural fit for the Supreme Court for a Democrat to appoint.

To be honest, it's better if this series continue then the Griffin. About the timeline the "Genna timeline", I consider her the definitive for Bart and also for Lisa, even if I would prefere for her to end up with Nelson rather then Millhouse

My favorite future episodes are 'Barthood' and 'When Nelson met Lisa'. I agree that Lisa shouldn't end up with Milhouse. I'f she ends up wirh someone it should be Nelson. They just got a great dynamic together. And if she doesn't become president i've always seen her as a lawyer. For Bart I think he might start his own business. Something without following a strict plan. Like at the end of 'Barthood' where he opens his own shop.

Knowing the future, especially how you'll get there, is a great way to change it whether you want to or not. Unless it's one of those "set in stone" timelines which the Simpsons is seemingly anything but. So by Fink telling Lisa "Millhouse started the fire he saved her from" it would most likely lead to her never dating him, if he didn't erase their memories of the future. But even Fink knowing can result in deviations because of two possible courses of action. 1. He tries to ensure it happens only for something to go wrong. 2. He's so focused on _not_ interfering he messes up his own future causing a ripple effect across the timeline. Edit: changed _now_ to _not_ in scenario 2.

Holidays of Future Past and Future Drama are the only future episodes I 100% consider to be canon. To me they seemed like the only ones that actually seemed interested in telling the story of what happens to these characters in the future, whereas Days of Future Future seemed more interested in just being crazy for the sake of being crazy. The only other episodes I would consider throwing in there would be Lisa’s Wedding and Barthood, but those have their own issues that stop them from connecting with the rest of the series.

I know BartHood was just an episode parodying the film boyhood, but I actually really liked how it went. My favorite future probably is the one where Lisa is president and Bart is president/CEO of his own pot company. I would rather Lisa end up with Nelson than Millhouse. I also like the idea of Bart and Laura Powers ending up together, although I don’t think we’re ever going to see her again. Actually, BartHood could easily enough lead into Lisa, being president and Bart owning a pot company. They haven’t explored that timeline nearly so much, but I would like if they would. I’m not huge on the Bart’s just a failure or Lisa and Millhouse ideas.

Upon reflection of their possible futures, I'd like to see them explore already established or alluded to plots in future episodes. Maybe something along the lines of these: Bart and Jenda's Wedding Bart and Jenda raising Jiff and Skippy before they divorced Lisa in College and discovering her bisexuality Lisa and Milhouse raising Zia at a younger age

But you know Lydia, I gotta say too, I think it’s really silly how season 35 of the Simpsons hasn’t come over to the UK yet at all. I mean I know you’ve watched them all since you did reviews in the past but I know other people who are getting very irritated by it. Especially since season 36 has slowly started coming out in every other country. So I really have to wonder what’s going on since there’s also online websites you can use instead as well.

If they return to the "Jenda Timeline", I would like them to fix a few of the problems that you've mention in the timeline, but what's done is done, and it is what's in the "Jenda Timeline". Although it's a little confusing since Edna dies in the past, but in the first episode in the "Jenda Timeline" Edna is alive, and than Ned mentions in the Future Christmas episode that Edna died (by Homer) and Ned ended up marring the ghost of Maude.

You should make another video where you take all the times where the future was shown and make separate timelines for each time there was a consistent future timeline. Like how you took all of these different episodes and made it a consistent complete timeline. You should do that again but with all future episodes and try to piece together a bunch of different but complete timelines. Sorry if this was confusing to read 😭

The only one of the flash forward episodes I really like is Lisa's Wedding. The background setting future stuff is just over the top and sarcastically handled (humanoid robots crying themselves into malfunction), and not some depressing statement. The characters are handled a lot better. Bart as a building demolisher and being happy at his job is oddly heartwarming. The others feel too tedious, and I REALLY hate the "Lisa ends up with Milhouse" endings they want to push. That said, Milhouse in his purple tuxedo at the prom looks like Gonzo because the Muppet had that exact same suit for years. At least until the chili pepper shirt phase.

Hiya, yeah I've noticed alot of content farms channels spawning, not just with Family Guy but also Spongebob, and I've been seeing more and more Simpsons channels too. They all just copy eachother with the same white thumbnail and editing style, there's nothing unique or interesting about them. They are just recap channels and you can tell there's no real passionate fan behind it. It is a shame really when there's so many creators on here working hard. It wouldn't surprise me if some "RU-vid" guru is behind it with a pack full of people eager to make quick, passive income. Discredits a lot of what of genuine creators do.

Mustardpregnany seems to be the first, he's been doing it for months. Ultimely Karsten Runquist was the first to do the white thumbnail and they all copied him.

I am actually in favor of Lisa dropping out of Yale, because it's so realistic, so many of these robotic kids that a designed to study, never dealt with their depression, and eventually in college, it catches up with them.
