I saw a post yesterday that said, “Being good at your job often attracts more work. It’s called ‘performance punishment…’ Overworking your high performers to avoid growing your under performers is a fast track to disaster. It breeds resentment. Good people will leave, and poor performers will not learn.”

Yep. And when you finally find that one that's going nicely, they (the bosses) up and change something in your working day out of the blue that wasn't in the contract or the advert, didn't get mentioned in the interview, and they know you don't want to do it but they're going to make it look like it's good for you somehow, with the "We don't want to cut your hours" spin, or something. It just ruins everything.

I agree with this completely! Exactly how I viewed my last job, as a relationship. It was the greatest thing when it started, but like a failing relationship that you're fighting to hold onto, I just got tired of how it was making me feel, reminding me of my past mistakes, feeling like an idiot everyday, plus I just downright hated my last supervisor lol!!! I hated having to look at that person, everyday. When I got let go, I wasn't depressed in the slightest, I went home, smoked a cigarette, cooked and ate a whole Totino's pizza to myself, and went right back to bed! Just like a terrible toxic relationship, I was happy to be released, and vice versa, I'm sure!

Smoking added nothing to this experience. It’s an addiction reinforced by a habit. I continue to be amazed by how smokers think it’s a character trait or some form of accomplishment. “I smoked a cigarette.” Why? If you had written that you injected heroin into your arm we’d all recoil at such a horrible coping mechanism.

Employers expect loyalty from most of us but when things get tough, they'll let you go in the name of "bottom line is cost". There are some good workplaces but they're almost the exception rather than the rule.
@mmm81m6
@mmm81m6 6 дней назад
After 15 years in the financial service sector I have been fired once because of cost reductions, got my team restructured twice and have seen almost every kind of bad, sub-optimal as well as some good working environments. In my experience great bosses don't last, some MD or CEO comes along every 3-4 years and decides to wipe out a bunch of people to justify their bonus and you are left to pick up the pieces. I don't feel loyalty to my employer, at best to some of my co-workers, so I think working in these places is basically very similar to prostitution, I sell my services to bidders, do stuff I often don't enjoy to save up money. I can assure you most people in finance feel the same. They should worn graduates, you'll get to 40 with savings and a nice house, but you'll have spent the best years of your life doing tedious work, in many cases managed by toxic bosses, you will also have back/neck problems from all the sitting at a computer cringing your fists, and sleepless nights before client meetings with people you dislike, ah I forget you will get stuck in some of the most overcrowded and expensive cities in the world (London, Paris, NY, Milan, Frankfurt) that you will only manage to escape from during your holidays. I come from a small town in the country side and a humble family, love the outdoors, so I plan to get out of this racket next year and I am working on pulling this off from a financial perspective. Life is too short.

People who tell others to just quit are completely unaware of the stress and problems that creates. They’ve made a list of the most stressful events in a person’s life and changing jobs is one of those things. I can’t take anyone seriously if they tell others to just quit their jobs. If it was easy to find another job that sustains your life then we’d all be doing it more often.
@thewryreport
@thewryreport 4 месяца назад
Yes, I'm in the same boat. Everyone just telling me "stop complaining, if work is hell, just quit!"... As if it were that easy! Finding a new job is no easy task, takes time + you may end up in the same situation as your current job, if the job type is the problem (as in my case). Switching to different type of work, especially if you're middle ages (like me) is hard, since you often have to start lower/take a (big) pay cut... Sigh... What we really need is to be taught how to stop giving a sh*t - cuz whether it's quitting and finding a new job, or staying a toughing it out, it's all so bloody stressful, making my insomnia worse, which is affecting my mental + physical health!
@lotstosay6359
@lotstosay6359 4 месяца назад
It depends on how bad it is. If a person is considering hurting themselves or it’s so bad that they are essentially in an abusive relationship but with their employer they need to leave. Being depressed everyday and fearful of going into work is not normal. It’s Stockholm syndrome and rationalizing staying in a situation you know isn’t right. There are other jobs.
@americandissident9062
@americandissident9062 4 месяца назад
@@lotstosay6359 True, you should not risk your health. But many older people think we can just walk off of a bad job, and literally physically walk into a new building and tell them “Mr. Boss, Sir, I’m your guy!” and get a new job with nothing but “gumption and a nickel in my pocket!”

I left even though i knew I really shouldn't. 16 years, I couldnt stand the place. Management and some co workers were so toxic. Micromanage, gaslighting, retaliation, ethics violations, etc. Plus, the long hours of work was physically hard on the body and mentally draining repetitive task. We never knew what time we were leaving for the day. They called it " open-ended ", meaning we couldn't leave till the work was done or management says so. Didn't know if you would be home for dinner or have time to run errands. Thank God I left. I had no job lined up but i was close to a nervous breakdown from the stress. I dont regret leaving one bit.

This doesn't connect with how CEOs frequently skip from one company to the next every 3 to 5 years on average. It shows the most financially successful and most powerful laugh in the face of loyalty and commitment: they are driven to succeed above all else. It's not a relationship it's a step towards their next position. Like a sociopath.

I just saw this video today. I never thought about a job as a relationship. At work I go above and beyond. I go to work every day and I'm always on time. I'm always doing my job and filling in to do the work the Supervisor doesn't want to do. However my Supervisor is higher management's favorite and the Supervisor knows this. The Supervisor does minimal work and complains constantly about me and gives me the silent treatment. Plus the Supervisor gives me nasty attitude. Higher Management who is never watching due to being in meetings all day, believes there friend the Supervisor. This Supervisor has caused a toxic work environment. I'm not understanding why workers need to cause problems and chaos in the workplace. Workers are at least 8 hours in the office so why not make the best of it. Every day I'm physically and mentally drained. I'm looking for another job where I will be appreciated and hopefully have better coworkers. 🤞

Boy, did this come at the right time, Mel. I turned just turned in my two weeks' notice on Monday and my boss didn't see it coming. I kept asking for a raise for months and felt like they were empty promises. Tuesday, silent treatment. Today, my boss finally wanted to talk. She was completely confused and blindsided by why I would walk away. She admitted she failed to communicate with me that this whole time she was vying to get me a raise, but didn't have the power from her higher ups. She never communicated that to me until I had had enough. We were also friends before she moved up and so she knew what struggle I was going through because she had been there, too. It was a heart to heart talk because there was confusion, frustration, and disappointment for both parties and my boss really doesn't want me to leave. The ball is in my court now and I don't know what to do because the raise I was getting was already in the motion this week. Hearing you talk about jobs being a relationship made so much sense to me. It's all about reciprocity and communication. I love this, Mel. Thank you.

PLEASE HELP. I'm 46, suffered injust losses, and life long anxiety and trauma. I don't have options others have. So I go from job to job. Service low wage bottom jobs. I show up with respect, am nice, do my best, seek my bosses approval. I don't understand why the work places are toxic. Sabotaging people, gossip, negativity. Why can't people just be nice? And make goals for themselves? I've been through too much in life and yet it's a real eye opening reality that the world is ruthless regardless. My last 3 jobs, my supervisors were controlling and completely condescending to me. Condescending is a trigger for me. I go from anxiety to panick, leave, never go back....and spend days not wanting to leave my home. I'm getting to the point where I don't want to try anymore. WHAT do I do? I'm ordering that Dr's book on anxiety that you had on your show. People are telling me that I'm the one with a pattern. Yet why should I want to work under these conditions? Please make a video. As is, I have no family, no support. Im trying so hard to survive and accept my life position. Only to be punched in the face over and over by people. PLEASE advise. ❤️ please. Thank you

I’ll be straight up with you, the reason every single person is unhappy is because we have stripped ourselves from Jesus. Look at the USA right now.. Read the entire book of Job, it was written for you and your trials. Or read Jeremiah 20. Jesus the prince of all peace loves you. You might just be at that point where you are ready to be saved from all this. Put your trust in him and not in your dollar.

For me its the opposite: I love my supervisor and teammates but the workload itself is WAY too much. In our roles we are expected to be call center reps, medical billers and also complete caseloads of 50-100 cases each day. I definitely had the feeling day 1 of training asking, "What the hell did I get myself into?" Suffice it to say, I am giving myself 3 months and am actively searching for another job. I love myself more than this paycheck and I'm looking forward to the relief I'll feel after quitting this mistake.

I been with my job for about three years. I have had raises and got into an elevated position of leadership. Ever since I been in leadership it has been a nightmare for me. I get told by my crew that they aren’t going do something constantly no matter how nice I have been. My last position I have been on for three months. The first week I was told by the new crew they don’t need anyone telling them what to do. Already not stoked about hearing that. It’s been our busy season this month and I haven’t gotten trained only for maybe the first month I started. After that I don’t get to learn how to do my actual job. I basically do bitch work for the more senior leadership (my peers). I have been laughed and yelled albu the crew for not knowing what Iam doing. I get talked down to if I ask them to do something that was passed down to me by other leadership. It really has caused me such anxiety going into work. I just miss going into my work and doing what was asked of me and doing well at it. I don’t need to ask a team of 20 something’s to help. I often cry in my car before I go home. Sorry to bum you all out.

They encourage or manipulate using superior as long as we are productive. Never credit until we are outspoken. The moment we could not perform or sense stressed or speak out some things to be corrected at company level, we get sacked with a deadline which is hard to achieve. Then that makes us resign. Since we are at weakest point we agree it is our mistake. HR will be silent. Such a deadly thing.

PrisonEarth the best freedom would be working for yourself and doing financially well! At least that’s my opinion. Most employers abuse, use, and spit you out whenever it’s at their convenience which is generally close to retirement, when you’re sick, or no longer stupid enough to happily drink whatever they’re giving you! Call me a bit job jaded by now, if you will. I’ve seen way too much by now.
