A system that can run autonomously and doesn't need any help from outside of which the sole task will be to collect water from where it is floating on, clean it, and pump it back into the ocean, in the meantime collecting all the waste it encounters, stores it and brings it to shore where it can be repurposed for other ends.
It's the owner's alibi for Bill Gates' Giving Pledge.. Somehow I think the same amount of money could have been spent in manner more beneficial to society by skipping the yacht element of the ship.. I doubt this is what Bill Gates had in mind.
In what way is a party yacht taxed less than a research vessel? It will be registered as passenger vessel too, so no benefits to it being a research vessel.
I noticed you have missed out the fact that the owner of REV is the operator of one of the most ocean damaging fishery companies in the world. Probably a fantastic tax write-off as well.
Oh yes these are criminals. There was an article 15 years ago that was warning us in norway to take it easy with salmon, as it is extremely toxic. Advised to not eat if pregnant. Several universities (in norway) have tested and often farmed salmon has alarming levels of toxins/bad fats. The person who gave the warning was completely cut/out fired, and the news was quickly shoved under the carpet. Years later we find out it was because the leader of that government branch for food regulations and such... has infact a huge stock in.... Salmon farms! This place is more corrupt than you can ever even imagine. How could a person that owns a substantial stock in salmon farms, be responsible to make government decisions on the same stock that she owns? Don't let the honest/naive population fool you, norway is amongst the most corrupt places on earth. But it's only on top. Just think that ALL the food, ALL supermarkets are controlled by only 2 players. And no one else is even allowed to come close. And the people are trained from elementary school that this is good for them. its to protect ''the farmers''. So the people themselves defend these crooks that completely monopolize the norwegian market. So when you comment/try to reason about the situation, they immediately go in defensive mode, as it has been strongly repeated from beginning of elementary school (''tariffs are good for you. they protect your nation. its to protect the farmers''). Weird right? how can they not be protesting instead, so rich and yet we can't buy anything good here in supermarket. Very little choice, like something imbetween a rich country and a soviet empty shelf. Just have a look at supermarkets in norway, the selections. they're pretty much all the same. 2 groups then give different names to their markets, but it's the same exact owner. Very empty and lonely, insecure. Typical scenario, you can say it to any norwegian and they will giggle because it's very normal here: You talk to someone, in the gym maybe, and you really seem to click. you chat and it gets real friendly, you think you made a friend. Next day, you see him and approach to just say hi or something, and he completely ghosts you. Like you're invisible. I hope that puts in context why even a billionaire would have to bother with all these insecurities, and go on and pretend he's there to save the world.
A yacht is a watercraft used for pleasure or sports. The term originates from the Dutch word jacht, and originally referenced light, fast sailing vessels that the Dutch Republic navy used to pursue pirates and other transgressors around and into the shallow waters of the Low Countries
This ship reminds me of Jacques Caousteaus Calypso. This is the Calypso on steroids. When I was a small kid with a large Lego collection, I used to build ships like this as my favorite projects.
Yes, and he also destroys the oceans with his extremely toxic farms. You have no idea how corrupt he is. And how corrupt norway is. All is monopoly here, and people are thought from elementary school that it's good for them. Go on, come here and try to make a comment about the crappy supermarket! They will jump to defend the crooks that subdue them.
It's not only a research vessel, it's also a super luxury yacht fitted for up to 50 guests and 40 crew. It burns ~2,000 litres of diesel fuel per hour when cruising.
Exactly. Basically in Norway people are obsessed with image, very superficial. That can maybe shed some light on this too. So he wants a superyacht, but he's making it look like he's saving the world. But he also charters it. And private use. And saving the world. Blablabla. If he wanted a research vessel, then donate it to a science lab/group.
It's a superluxury yacht, with norwegian insecurity and obsession with image at its best. So it pretends its there to save the world you know. But you'll still use a million gallons of fuel per day when you go on your holidays privately. If it's a research vessel, then it's not your luxury yacht. take a decision. This guy is a monster that has destroyed nations and oceans with his farms. There is an insane level of corruption in order to allow these farms to continue operating in many countries (something like 60% of the world's salmon, you figure the numbers). Plese do some reasearch and stop these people from fooling you so easily.
A combination of green energy solutions such as solar panels, vertical axis wind turbines, wave action generators, towed hydro electricity generator and a mini biogass generator for electricity consumption. For stability a rear vane stabilizer which will also inprove the milage and pitch, yae and roll off the ship
Dude... it's his private yacht, but he's so insecure and obsessed with image like all norway is. So there you go. You think he's a scientist suddenly? You know how much that thing uses? If he wanted to have a research project, then let a science lab decide how to direct the money. Certainly a luxury charter yacht / hybrid insecure / save the world on off-days / look how nice i am saving the world while using 100000 gallons of fuel per day for my pleasure / insert whatever other. It's so blatant i don't know what to say. I guess i've lived here too long and i see these behaviours/attitudes/colors instantly
I don't see a list but my recommendation would be some form of radiation detection systems. I know that garbage is a main concern, but what about nuclear waste that may have been dumped but no one said or knows about? What about Fukushima and effects it is having?
LOL/ its nice to see how easy you've all been fooled. He's just overly insecure and obsessed with image like any norwegian. It's a luxury yacht. if you want to save the ocean, you dont build it. You give money to appropriate research labs, and they'll make non-luxury research tools. These are the people that monopolize completely the norwegian market and allow 0 competition. Then they also begin teaching in elementary school that this is good for them, so forget about trying to talk to the population about it. they are glad that only 2 people owns all the food and supermarkets in norway. Because it's ''to protect the farmers'' -brainwash line teached from birth-. Have a look at some pictures of norwegian supermarkets and you'll put this in context. And you think mr. salmon mafia guy is there to save the world, omg. Man please you guys have to start looking at what you have in front of your eyes.
To make a difference for the ocean: 1. A proper waste management on land, maybe starting with the countries that are littering the most. 2. Educating people by enhancing their awareness of the damage caused by littering in the waters. Just handing out fines is going nowhere.
3. Teaching people that luxury yachts use as much energy as a whole neighbourhood. Teaching them to spot criminals like this guy. Industrial people in norway are a closed group of criminals that completely monopolize the market, and not just that. They also teach in elementary school that this control/tariff/blockade is good for them, so they never protest. Not only that, they even defend them! Take a look at the food/supermarket in norway and you'll get an idea. No other competitor is allowed, only 2 players to controll all. And you think these people are out there to save the world., sorry but it's one big laugh my friend.
I just found out about the existence of this superyacht while checking the chart for biggest private yachts on Wiki and I was very happy when I found out it was built by Fincantieri 🇮🇹 The fact that it was made for a good cause and not for some fancy billionaire is great to hear, wasn’t expecting that. 181.5m overall length is crazy!
Vylkeer You should be happy that there are fancy billionaires! They create businesses, opportunities and jobs for people! Poor people create nothing! They live a parasitic existence and thumb there noses at the very people who's wealth feeds them.
This yacht project is suppose to heal the ocean by going to the most remote area's of the world for what? what they hope to find in these remote spots?
With the fuel consumption rate of a Superyacht of this size, or a yacht of any size, there is nothing ECO friendly about them, or boating in general, but they sure are fun to own. Best of luck with this project!
A Billionaire wanted to feel better about dropping all that money on a yacht .. or maybe wanted to avoid the stigma that comes with owning the biggest yacht in the world so they gave it a twist .. for now I'm sceptical but only the future can tell
A lot of superyacht owners donate time aboard to charities and good causes. Many owners packed their ships full of supplies and send them to areas of natural disasters. The late Paul Allen would use Octopus and her submarine to find lost warships and for research missions. Just sad that the super yacht industry doesn’t get recognized for the good they do.
Onmyway2slayabeastibecame1 he's in 5th place of the richesr people in Norway at the moment, but have multiple years been the nr1. He's a self made billionair who started with just one fishing boat in 1982 and built himself up a shipping and fish empire.
Also not destroying the oceans and the wild salmons with his invasive salmon farms would be a good start. Not lining up bribes in many countries in order to continue to operate his insanely polluting and toxic farms could also be a start. Ah no wait, yea he's sort of like a jeses, look he's so good and nice he made a vessel to save the world. Why doesn't everyone see this? It's right in front of you. Why do you let them fool you like this?
stop being so naive please. 1. he's not a scientist. 2. norway is obsessed with image. can say a ton more, but you can get the picture. If he wanted to save the world then go to a research lab, and let them decide what's best to do with those resources. Go and research how much fuel he uses when he uses that yacht for his pleasure for even just 1 week. Please do, You will not believe the numbers if i write them here.
Lovely idea, except for the turning sea water into hydrogen..The water is not a fuel, is is a very stable compound and it takes as much energy to split the hydrogen from it as it does to use the hydrogen for fuel and recombining it as water again. This is the problem with hydrogen, or one of them.
In fact it takes more energy than you get back by burning it because of entropy. People in general really need to study more physics. Free energy machines have never worked and not for a lack of trying. The laws of thermodynamics are considered scientific laws because we have never been able to falsify them.
Ocean liners dont exist. You mean passenger ship. A yacht becomes a passenger ship, when it is not owned by a private party for personal use but for a commercial use, aka when anyone can book a ticket for it.
Could you take me to Antarctica on that thing maybe? I, uhm.. have questions.. Also, bring some blue Quartz, but you probably got that covered already.
oh please. The guy is a ruthless industrialist in norway. Land of monopolies. And those salmon farms he owns are another monopoly of its own, history of corruptions in order to continue operating... they are completely devastating. do some research man. These men become rich because everyone is so easily tricked. This guy is not a saint. He is not an environmentalist. He is not a scientist. If you want to save the planet, you do not build a luxury yacht. Please have a look at the costs. Even a much simpler/smaller yacht, for 10-12 guests will probably cost you around 200,000 euros PER WEEK. A full tank will be maybe around 100k liters? Forgot the numbers they are so insane you just forget them, something in that range. Just leaving the engine on while parked for a minute uses a mind-boggling amount of fuel. +a million other costs. And you think anyone even remotely interested in saving the oceans would be the guy destroying it with his salmon farms, HAHAHA. How are you all falling for this guy... i am speechless....
Can it be called a yacht if its primary focus is research? I mean technically a cruise ship can be considered a yacht as well since its primary focus is luxurious entertainment couldn't?
so what if it's a party yacht even if it only gets used 1% of the time for research it's still better as that he just bought a normal yacht as most yacht buyers
ursel doran private citizens definitely don’t have access to marinized nuclear reactors. Not to mention there’s literally no commercial infrastructure in place for supporting or maintaining them.
ursel doran because Russian naval engineering is just the pinnacle of reliability and construction quality... Not to mention the astronomical cost of purchasing, designing and installing a nuclear reactor in a commercial ship. Not to sound skeptical, but I just can’t see how that’s a smart idea.
what do you mean world first with the submarine? Paul Allen's yatch also has that, and a bigger one. that is by far more advanced than this ship. It has a hangar for two helicopters which massively boosts its capabilities to being the most capable nongoverment ship in the world. this one doesnt. PS "up top,.. sonar" clearly doesnt know what he is talking about.
I mean the owner owns a massive fishing company that also adds to the destruction of the ocean and this ship was supposed to save the ocean through research, making them even? For the people who say why not just donate it, the likely reason is who is gonna fund it then? This scale of a ship needs alot of money to operate and just donations alone probably wont make it. Admit it or not, even most of us can't and won't donate to fund a program like this. That's why chartering it is also a valuable option to fund research programs and for the people saying it is a tax write off, probably yes and because they have the money and this is one of the money ways to do so.
