This video details how to maintain your pop up camper roof-top air conditioner. excellent video, before knowing any better years ago on our old starcraft it started to seep and it was loose screws , luckily we caught it before any damage was done .We service our new rock woods a/c yearly . keep up the good informative videos as there are not to many out there . Most people dabble in pop ups and move on to hard sides so it's nice to have someone dedicated just to pop ups , we are on our 3rd and in our mid fiftys years old ,we still love Em .

Hi. I love your videos. We just bought our first pop up a few weeks ago and just had our first trip. We kept it very simple this first time around. No use of toilet, shower, just the heat. Anyway, your videos have been very helpful for our next trip.

Our pop up has no toilet or shower...but we bought a Coleman privacy tent and put a medical foldable toilet in it and used trash bags, scented kitty litter & poo-pouri...it worked great!! Can use it to put a shower in it too! 😁

I did the top part in the summer when I bought the camper.. Be carefull there were actually two hornet nests in my roof cover. I was wondering how to do the inside now I know thank you for the great video

Another very important thing to check and maintain is your evaperator coils and your A-coils or aka inside coils, easy thing to use is zip clean or a foam cleaner , just spray it on directly on the coils them self's ,your done ! if need be if there nasty dirty, gently run a old tooth brush or anything soft and brush goibg with the fins not against them , this will let your ac run for years and be very efficient! Especially if they freez up easily or not as cold as it should be,

good stuff going to be checking out our AC/Heat unit soon also. but going to paint the top at the same time then put a new gasket seal on the top to. but rebuilding my 99 dodge truck now need to get it out of the garage first.

Hey thanks for the video it's very informative I bought a 97 starcraft yesterday and we got rain last night the rain water was pouring in through my AC I'm thinking I may need to replace that seal could you correct me if I'm wrong

Check the screws holding the AC down first. Second, check the drainage/weep holes in the bottom of the AC to ensure they’re not blocked. Third, replace the seal if one and/or two don’t fix the issue.

I don't have any recommendations on specific brands for a seal. I would just pick up one from a reputable brand and make sure its the correct size for your A/C.

Getting ready install a easy start. Figured while doing that is clean the fins and condenser. Do you get on your roof? if so How did crawl, or what. I have gotten no answer other than out down a piece of plywood. I have solid roof Somerset e3. Opinion or tips

Keep your weight as dispersed as possible and keep as much of your weight towards the edges of the roof as possible.

Can the top of a modern popup support the weight of an adult when working on the ac?

Our 2008 Jayco can support up to 350lbs while closed - as an example. The A/C adds an additional 80-100 lbs. Roof racks and awnings also add weight. With that said, I don’t recommend standing on or walking around on the roof. Try and distribute your weight evenly across as large of a surface area as possible while working on the A/C. Alternatively, some people use 2x4s or 2x6s to distribute their weight to the edge of the roof where it’s stronger.

Were you concerned about putting pressure on your roof while you were up there removing the cover? . I've found several small (hail) cracks on my roof and I'm concerned about them. Bonds helps seal it but I don't know how strong it is when under flexing pressure like that

Yeah, I could see how that could be concerning. Off the top of my head, I think the roof weight capacity is around 250-300lbs - at least with this pop up. I like to keep my weight distributed and close to the edges where there is more structural support.

I just cannot fathom WHY these camper manufacturers use such shoddy water damage prone materials on the roofs that are so easily compromised. I mean it's like the roofs are designed out of cotton candy and hard pressed cardboard to purposefully fail if the slightest thing goes wrong and the roofs. Not to mention no pitching or platform to the AC mounting to the roofs especially on popup campers to allow water to always run AWAY from the possible giant hole in your roof to allow for the AC to begin with. I have a conspiracy theory that rooftop AC only exists as a purposeful flawed system out of the gate to ultimately reduce your camper's longevity, meaning you spend in costly repairs or having to buy a new one quicker than if rooftop AC were not installed. Every time I've seen an irreparable camper, it's always due to the giant hole in the roof for AC that starts the issue.
