as an Islanders fan, this was extremely spot on buddy. Had no idea you were so knowledgeable regarding our team - some would say more than some of these "experts" on twitter. THAT BEING SAID, I think it's important to point out that Kyle Palmieri has still been good this year - he's not the best 2nd liner in the world, but his effort never skips a night. Add him to the list of players that aren't why the Islanders are losing. AS FOR ROY vs LAMBERT, most of the analytics have improved. Corsi, Fenwick, Less Shots Against --- the system? Much better. But coaching out some horrendous habits takes time. Like you said, its a wait and see scenario. Its of my belief speaking with Islanders accredited media that Roy will be here for a long time. As in...there's a chance he might be the next General Manager. He has this team playing responsibly in the neutral and defensive zone, something they completely weren't doing under Lambert. Time will tell how this goes, but if they miss the playoffs blaming him would be foolish.

As an Islanders fan, I have been frustrated with their recent performance but none of that is on Roy. It is clear that he wants them to play harder and faster which was what had been lacking all season. I think the main criticism that some fans have is that there hasn’t been a change from what the Islanders main problem was: playing a full 60 minutes. As shown in the Stadium Series game, the Islanders can jump out to a lead and be in control through the first two periods but when the third hits, they immediately just stop playing and I honestly don’t know why since it can also happen where they are asleep in the first period and have to play catch-up, as an example the recent Tampa game

it's blatantly a conditioning issue. our roster is older, and from what I understand morning skates were optional for the duration of Lane Lambert's tenure. Roy is trying to push a team where the majority of players have comfortably been passengers for the past 1.5 years at a minimum.

This is no longer a Barry Trotz built team, or at least they haven't played that way since he left. They are much more offensive minded and often forget to play defense. A Barry Trotz team was defense first and would win 2-1 not lose 5-4 giving up a 3 goal lead.

You nailed it with the roster construction bit. I don’t understand the expectations for the islanders. This was bound to happen with the aging core. Sometimes you got to gamble to get younger. Look at the Panthers, trading away Huberdeau after a 115 point campaign along with Weegar. They got younger and risked a star for a star and it paid off. Can’t just run it back every year

Roy has the Islanders playing better despite their record since he's taken over. He's at NHL .500 being given a team that was given up almost 40 shots on a nightly basis. He's cleaned that part up a bit. Given the roster he's been given and the short amount of time he's had to work with the team, I'm happy with him. The GM on the other hand is running out of excuses and has depleted the prospect pool to an NHL's worst ranked at #32.

I love that you bring in Bednar into this. The guy came in with a team that was in complete tatters, was in the worst season of their history, and never once was he trying to get people to believe in this year. "It's going to take time." He kept saying. And he did. The Avs are one of the best teams in the league, Bednar is one of the longest standing coaches in the NHL for a reason. Roy may have made a mistake in how he and management wanted the team to be for the Avs and parted ways, but it needs time. Tocchet didn't get the Canucks to where they are in one day, or one season. He got the team to buy in when he had the time to work with them. Give Roy the chance, give him an offseason, give him a full season, then you can put him in the fire or not. Until then, he's just doing the best with what he's got.

I am a die hard isles fan. I have my original fisherman jersey of Palffy. Lou is 1000% to blame for this. The two runs to the conf finals were smoke and mirrors. They wouldnt have made the playoffs the first year if they didnt shut the season down. The majority of these guys are Snow picks. Trading all of their first round draft choices has left us with a soft pool of prospects. Doubling down on older role players ruined the team. 7 years for Engvall and Mayfield? That is so bad. Nobody would have given them more than 3. At 81, Lou is not gonna be on board with a youth movement. Another huge problem on this team is Sorokin. Because he is a world class goalie, he masks a ton of their problems. Without him, we are a lotto team. He fires Trotz because they needed a new voice? So they replace him with Lambert who fails quickly. Makes Lou look so bad. Maybe we can bottom out and get McKenna whenever he is eligible.

Four wins in a row since this vid and 5-0 since Roy shuffled their lines for the first time. They've also been one of the best defensive teams in the league under Roy, with their advanced stats doing a complete 180. So yeah, the haters are looking pretty foolish right now. It was going to take some time, but the signs were there even when the record wasn't great yet that Roy was getting significantly more out of the team than Lambert had.

Until I finally was paying attention to announcers and figured out it was french canadien dialect lol. To be honest, I was suprised when they brought him in over Lambert. Roy is a little cookoo from what I’ve seen in his playing days. His son followed suit I saw years ago him sprinting down ice to completely assault the opposing team’s soft non violent goalie and celebrating the. beatdown. Ok my bad, that’s besides the point. Roy is not to blame. I think the Isles need to fix up the team. Keep the core guys, but get rid of the extras. I think Pageau could be a good deadline move for them. Though he has a big contract, he’s a warrior in the playoffs, and could be a big boost for a team that needs more depth. In the offseason, they could trade Clutter, Engvall, Mayfield, and a few other guys to get younger and faster. Then try to get a big scorer like Tarasenko or someone else and improve the defense. With a better defense, Sorokin’s job gets easier, meaning he can return to Vezina caliber form, and with a little more scoring, they can be a real tough team. The pieces are there. Lou just needs to wake up from his nap and do something because this team clearly isn’t going anywhere right now.

I honestly like what Roy has done with this team, but the Islanders won’t be good again without a retool. The core players (barzal, horvat, sorokin, nelson, dobson) have been great (especially considering sorokin has faced the most shots in the nhl), but the production around them has been questionable at best. Theres only so much roy can do with the way the roster is currently constructed (even trotz had better players like toews, leddy, eberle, bailey when he was good, and a lot of these guys when they were younger).

IDK how he's successful in jrs as watching him coach it's like he thinks he's in net n he thinks guys like foote, Blake etc all sucked at playing defense or what cause his system is the worst defensive system I've ever seen n the isles need better team defense so I'll be honest I'm surprised the record isn't worse.
