The resemblance of the daughters as three grown woman compared to their younger selfs has to be the best casting of characters. They look like their younger/older self. Deja and Randall I love their bond!
The casting director did such a great job that if you look closely, Beth has a brown marking on her eye, next to her pupil. The actress that plays her in college has a similar marking on the same eye. I don’t know if it’s a contact lens or if it’s real but the attention to detail is amazing.
I love that she accepted Randall and Beth as her parents and just by telling him he’s about to have a grandson and that she’s naming him after William just solidified that moment
Not featured in this video but I died when she told him “it’s not pointless, Dad.” I know she’s referred to him as “Dad” before and she had called him “pop” but just hearing her say dad to him, not about him, just hits the feels hard
@@katrinabelarmino177 I think that's the first time she's actually called him "Dad". When talking to Randall, Deja usually calls him "Pop", and tells people she has a dad/father, but this is the first time in the series she actually called him Dad
I wonder if shed give him Beth's dad's name for a middle name. Guess we'll never know. But I'm so glad she became a huge part of the show after she was first introduced
This scene had me sobbing. It reminded me of my daughters. My dad died before they were born, but because of all of the stories they have heard about him, they feel like they know him. Ironically, his name was Jack.
I feel the same about my grandfather since my dad's father died unexpectedly when he was a junior in highschool. I've heard many stories but at least my grandfather got to spend time with some of his older grandchildren.
As my dad was bedridden and dying of cancer many years ago, my sister had given birth and told my dad she was naming the baby William, after my grandfather who died when my dad was a teenager and was my dad’s hero. It was such a blessing for my father, and gave him the last bit of joy before he passed. When I saw this scene, it obviously was so emotional for me. Beautiful scene, beautiful moment.
Can you do the scene where randell thinks Beth doesn’t know about Deja being pregnant and Beth responds “I’m that girls mother, I knew before she knew”
I’ve been seeing some people already wondering why Deja didn’t just name the kid Randall if she wanted to honor her dad. Honestly, anyone can name their kid after someone that they know or knew who is either still here or has passed on, and that’s amazing and great in its own right, but for her to have never even met William and still love Randall so much that she wants to name him after somebody that HE loved is just honor and unconditional love on a whole different level. With everything that William has been to the show, as well, and how much we as fans love and talk about him, that name was the best possible choice. And Randall finding out that he’s going to be a grandpa to a little boy just lit up my entire world 😂
Sh did honor Randall by picking the person he wanted. Randall liked that much better than after himself. I had an uncle who died in WWII and my dad named my brother after him and not himself. Mom wanted my brother to be named after my dad, but my dad did not want that.
@@benji285 right, lol. but just being able to say you’re that successful is something that would make one happy :) to see how far you’ve come and what a great support system you have behind you
Is it surprising to anyone but me that Deja of the three daughters is the most like Randell? It shows you bloodline doesn't make a family. That's why they fought so much so much alike
@@SimV239 Not really. Deja had a very rough childhood before she met Randall. Randall was loved, cared, and protected from the moment he was born. As an adopted kid myself, I wish my adoptive parents were half as good as his.
Would’ve been way too predictable if it was a girl and they going to name her Rebecca. Glad it’s a boy that’ll be named William especially since Randall only had daughters. The man had only daughters while his siblings got one of each. He just wants to help raise at least one boy.
My favorite lines its about damn time. Black women here...black women there... reminds me of my family. My husband is surrounded by nothing but women all the way down to our German Shepherd Shelby. 😆 Randall finally got him a boy💁🏾♂️
This takes me back to the episode when R&B had just had Annie and as Randall stop for that blizzard he was already ready for another kid (a boy) & Beth was like noooooo sir! Randall got his BOY!!!
Definitely one of my favorite moments of the finale! Watching Randall react to news of a grandson was just too cute!…And by the way, I’m telling myself that she’ll actually name the baby after both William AND Randall. 😁
Oh gosh this is so priceless to see a man so happy but crying tears of joy because it's going to be a boy. I can remember my dad saying to me your going to have a boy. He was right. I'm glad he lived to see him born.
That was ALL Sterling.. The character of Randall left after the shout.. His JOY put a smile after the tears of this being the final episode. Thank you Mr. Foggelman and Mr. Brown for bringing this character to our screen and hearts.. 💞💞💖
I fell in love with the character of Randall. I would have loved to have had him in my life. Friend, brother, neighbour. He is so much fun and so serious all at the same time. Happy trails Sterling K. Brown. You were born to play this character.
That Ahh finally bit was perfect! Sterling is an amazing actor and they did a fab job casting adult deja ❤️ that little dance tho 😍 gunna miss this show so much
When I watch this scene I think about the story’s my mother and grandmother tell me about my grandfather. I never met him but hearing the stories about him made me feel like I did and had a relationship with him. And because of that when I’m older and if I have a boy I want to name him after my grandfather.
Oh God this scene hit me so close, I named my oldest after my late grandfather william. The face my family all made the moment I gave my son to them and told them “meet your grandson William” and they’re mouths all dropped and cried of all told me thank you. And till this day my family let him get away with so much because his name.
I feel as possible spinoff with Deja, Malik and Randall and Beth dropping in. Maybe not but Dan is giving her a lot of time since she ran away and we knew she'd be okay.
My eyes got heavy when she said, "We'd like to name him William." I love Deja so much the second time around watching it. I always liked her the first time I watched the series, but upon second viewing, knowing that the true crux of This is Us is the beauty of adoption and the possibilities it allows to expand a family dynamic, I appreciate her character even more than ever now.
Why doesn't Randall have more scenes with Tess and Annie? Why no adult Nicky and Franny flashforwards? I love Deja and Randall but feel like they could have spent some time focusing on other characters too?
Thank you. I kept thinking it was odd that Randall's daughters (Annie and Tess) walked away so Deja could talk to him. If there was one weak link in this show, it was not enough Annie. Deja had more storylines than both of his daughters. ("you'll always be my #1...")
I wish they gave Annie and future Annie a storyline over the six year and and the only time we saw future Hailey is the one episode where jack child was born , it like she was totally forgot about
I agree. Or....Beth could have had more storylines with her daughters. For such devoted & loving parents, they didn't treat their daughters with the same level of attention. It was a glaring not Pearson parenting technique.
@@elizabethcimino6559 I think they knew what she was going to tell him already. Remember Annie already knew she was pregnant and they were really close sisters in the show.
I LOVE THAT SCENE OH MY GOSH AND IM THE MOST CYNICAL AND PESSIMISTIC PERSON I KNOW !!! HAD ME CRYING AND LAUGHING CAUSE I KNOW LIFE IS A WONDERFUL BEAUTIFUL THING. NOT TO TAKE FOR GRANTED NOT TO BE CLICHE BUT TRUE
I remember my reaction seeing Deja worried about Malik that it was not the right time and I was just thinking, he has a daughter who is probably 13 years old, he must be relieved that yes, he hasn't had another kid young
I loved this scene but I literally laughed when Tess and Annie said we'll give you two a moment 😆 it just seemed like they were determined to give them as little screen time as possible lol
I DON'T KNOW IF MY DAD DANCED WHEN HE HEARD MY SISTER WAS PREGNANT WITH A BOY! SHE WAS 43YRS IN 2016! MY DAD HAS 2 👭 GIRLS PLUS 5 STEPDAUGHTERS!! HE PASSED AWAY IN 2017 BUT AT LEAST HE GOT TO KNOW HIS GRANDSON FOR 1 1/2 YEARS BEFORE HE DIED. SUPRISING ABOUT THIS FINAL EPISODE BETWEEN DEJA AND RANDALL ; MY NEPHEW'S MIDDLE NAME IS (WILLIAMS) ON HIS FATHERS' SIDE. HE DIED BEFORE MY NEPHEW WAS BORN!
If a spin-off is ever a possibility, which for me personally, I’m not on board for, just for the fact that more than likely the main characters won’t be in involved. It will be This Is Us: The Next Generation or This Is Us 2.0, with the focus probably on Deja and her family. 🤔🤔
This scene kinda bugs me. I think Deja overstepped naming the kid after Tess and Annie’s grandfather. He was their grandfather. Not hers. She even admits she never met him.. This scene just triggered an argument I had with my cousin who named her third son after my dad right after he passed and I felt like she took the ability of me to name my firstborn after my dad by doing that.
@@RavenPendragon14 not when Deja herself says in this very scene that she never met William But Tess and Annie did. I’m not saying she can’t name him William but at least ask Tess and Annie. The whole Deja/Randall relationship has been weird to me. It was like the second she was brought into the family the other 2 girls stopped existing. She didn’t just become a part of the family, she WAS the family. Aside from Tess coming out, name one thing of note they did in the show?
