@@chidorirasenganz they had the e-Up, which they should have kept going. I heard they initially lost about 1000 Euros per Vehicle. OK, raise the price by 3000 Euros, then and make a next-gen that is specifically designed as an Electric. If these had been war times, the job would already have been done. There is no way that VW is an efficient operation.

@@NisseOhlsen yup - people are always saying they lose money on their EVS. So... just don't do that? Design a car, get the costs low with modern production, charge an unfair price for the first hundred thousand, lower the price as the plant is paid off. Simples. Instead they're just completely confused about how to build vehicles. Vertically integrate folks, it's the way of the rational.

Honestly this is the exact car I've been waiting for. If it comes to the US then I don't see myself waiting too long to pick one up. Currently driving a 2017 Fiat 500e so a small, cheap car, that is capable of over 100mi is a genuine godsent. However if it doesn't, it's either gonna be the new Mini SE or importing a Cupra lol. I loved the Mini SE when it came out, but $35k for a 100mi car was genuinely oscinine. Now that the 2024-25 is supposed to be a 200+mi, the GTI and the SE seem like they'll be decent competitors.

Tesla needed to start with more expensive models, that was their master plan. They now sell the most popular car in the world and make money hand over fist. The Model Y beat the Corolla in Q1. The expectation is that their own budget car will come out when the Mexican Gigafactory comes online however that's just guesswork until it happens. For all we know they might start with commercial vans in the same way they focused on the Tesla Semi and for the same reason (the fossil vehicles produce wild amounts of pollution, so the same batteries in a Semi takes out more pollution than the equivalent number of passenger cars). What happened next was very telling. Ordered the part and because the 2023 model had just come out there were no screens to be had. This was in winter this year and by losing the screen I lost every climate control in the car. The only choice I had was to try and say "ID please turn on heater" in the month it took to get a new screen that control worked exactly once. I could double tap the seat heaters which was the only heat in the car but could not run the defroster or any other heat. The screen was repaired eventually but I saw the severe weakness of the ID control design. I still have it but I did buy a Toyota BZX4 which I have grown to love the simple climate control buttons. If VW can get away from everything running on the screen like you suggest here with the GTI I will for sure get one (if they come to the US).

I remember when the GTI used to be gas powered. And the thrill I got when I put my foot down. I will not get that when driving a microwave.

The ID.2all looks so damn good, I love it! I guess it's supposed to be an electric polo, but it definitely reminds me of my '97 Golf IV. In fact, I have this book about the Golf IV and the concept drawings of it in 1997 kinda look like the ID.2all 🤔 It's like they dreamt big in 1997 and have finally achieved their desired design xD

Germany auto OEMs have still been slowing down their EV efforts across the board - hopefully this doesn't get caught up in it. I think it'll struggle to compete with the MG4 X-power too.

@esm7708 Unless they build it in China. The standard range MG4 is just under 27k, but the X-power is 36k, so we'll have to wait and see. Who knows what battery prices will be in 2-3 years!?
@esm7708
@esm7708 Год назад
@@jeremyradford5103 I suppose the problem is you can get an MG today and by the time the VW comes it will be out of date. Just like the ID3.

@esm7708 Indeed. To be honest, if VW wants to go down the nostalgia route, they should bring out a beetle EV based on the original design as far as possible.

Wait until 2028 for a FWD warm e-hatch? I already drive a Golf GTI and have waited years for VW to come out with an electric version. As luck would have it, MG just launched the MG4 Xpower so I’ve ordered that. Goodbye VW.

Wow! VW nailed it with this design. Let's hope they don't mess with the concept too much for production, give it a decent range, and an affordable price tag.
@nunagoras

Being the top version it won't be affordable. But this design seems incredibly near a production car. They'll likely just to fix the bugs and let it go.

This is all fine, but honestly unless there is a drivetrain to match its just another body kit hiding the same innards. Given the recent appearance of the Kia EV6 GT and Hyundai Ionic 5N I suspect the're all hiding in the toilet in Munich right now, as a GTI/GTD person I really really really expected more of the existing ID models - there is no reason why they couldnt put a decent drive train in them and provide something with some thrill. The ID3 GTX looked reasonably acceptable from the outside, but we hear nothing of its arrival. I dearly hope they dont just create another Cupra Born here.

I'm quite certain in 10 years one of the big 3 German companies will be in serious financial trouble. They're just not serious about the technology and can't get it done. If it's not made of nuts and bolts they're not interested. Doesn't feel like "engineering" to them. Start learning Mandarin.
