Perhaps consider a magnetic sheet for the ships wooden base with gorrilla glue, Ie what fridge magnets are made from. Can be found in bulk form sign shops n printing companies . Iffen you are lucky the sign shop will have a bunch of off cuts for terrai
VERY impressive, Jay. Awesome. It took the COVID lock downs and a nervous breakdown for me to tackle my entire 'pile of shame'. Between 2020-2022, I painted nearly 900 miniatures. The outcome was glorious. 😉
In the 11 years I've been painting I've painted 1017 minis (not counting terrain). You've painted almost half that in a single year to a better quality than 95% of the stuff I do. Thats insane to me. Keep up the great work Jay.

Love this channel. I didn't finish anything but, after 20 years out of the hobby, have started painting my first miniatures in the last few weeks. Watching the content on this channel is really inspiring. Love Jay's attitude towards the hobby, and have learned so much from his content. Can't wait to see more. Think you need to expand that Space Wolves kill team into an army though, as the painting tips would really help me 🤣
I started modeling in January, and at the moment the situation looks like this: 45 - finished 27 - almost finished (mainly stands to make 24 - primed 1 - partially painted 1 - cut out and waiting for the idea of magnetization (venerable dreadnot) 10 - not out of the box at all I think that's a pretty good result for 12 months.
love the jab at the Pirates of Caribbean, yes there are only 3 movies. like how there is no sequel/reboot of Escape from NY or only 1 Resident Evil movie.
I painted 387 miniatures this year, down from my 614 last year, however I focused a lot more on quality over quantity this year, and it's resulted in some of my best paint jobs. I've also been pushing myself to go further this year with a lot of different techniques, actually pushing myself out of my comfort zone, I'm gradually getting the hang of using brighter colours, however I do often find myself defaulting to going grimdark with a lot of my paintjobs.
I painted like 237 models this year, mostly for the WAAAGH! but some deathuard things too, and the stompa was a blast to paint for sure! Really love the What I painted this Year videos, they are by far my favorites ones!
I set out a new years challenge last year to work on my Necron Army. Previously I only had about 600 points comepleted, with a substantial pile of shame. This year I managed to reach the 2k point mark, with both the combat patrol and the full roster for the Heirotek circle killteam completed as well so I can have as much fun with my necrons as possible in 2024. I still have another 1k points that needs to be painted, along with some still in box, and lots more to buy. Although I think I will try my best to only buy boxsets and to complete each one before buying something else. I would love to have my desired collection completed by the time 11th edition roles around so I can finally feel like I can play with Necrons to their full potential
I also love the pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, though i'm kinda meh on that one spin-off they made. I dont understand why some people call it the fifth film, there is no fourth pirates of the Caribbean
Loved the video and have enjoyed watching as a new subscriber..also very new to this hobby been at it 2 months and have painted 4 Space Marines, 4 Tyranids , 1 Dreadnought, working on a Age of Sigmar Knight Champion and a Warmachine Horde Gladiator..I find I get better with each model and try tips and tricks I pick up from you and others on RU-vid..but am a total noob..won't get 431 done this year but hope to complete my Cities of Sigmar boxed set. I will be painting my deffkilla wartrike and megatrakk scrapjet. I painted 213 models mostly Star Wars Legion. Now it's time to get back to my 40k Orks.
I got about 200 painted..but I played..very very little. Full time job and 2 broken wrists cut my numbers down this year... but the pile of shame did shrink.

I decided to challenge myself this year, and started gene stealer cults. It’s an army where there’s so much detail, that if I make a mistake I legitimately never find it again. Aborhants are a joy to paint The acolytes less so but I have a little system down for them so I’m just breaking threw them, I recently got myself an airbrush for Christmas, so plan on using on the vehicles I love the GSC cuz it’s lack of uniformity, they are just random people, it lets me mess around with colors and bases I never get to use on my AdMech or my iron hands and just experiment
I managed about three dozens models this year. Not a lot in comparison, but some I'm quite happy with. I expanded my Doctors for Carnivale, I did a large block for my Cult of Yurei for Bushido and a few misc miniatures just for fun.

I only painted 100 or so. 2k points of blood angles, 1300 points of necrons and a few D&D minis for my brother. I also bought the full set of 2022 vallejo paints in order to try to increase my skills and i did. My necrons and blood angles look so much better than my old rusty minis. Next year i will upgrade my 4000 points of nids and paint my gray 2000 points of skaven.
I have painted 205 miniatures this year and may get another one or two in before the end. I got most of the Marines from the Leviathan box painted and really happy with them. The Apothecary Biologis with all that white armor was a fun challenge if a bit of a pain to paint. I did get my Orks over two thousand points and played in my first 40K tournament. Also took 5th place in a Combat Patrol league (12 players). It was a great hobby year for me and the most productive ever.
I'm not a full-time painter, and my level isn't to the same standard that yours are, but I had a TON of fun painting up 420 minis this year! Some of the best were the Orktober 1k list and terrain, my current Skaven build, and the Aeldari Exodites I converted! Here's to a 2024 filled with even more fun and finished minis!

I got back into the hobby (after a 15 year or so break) around the beginning of April this year. I found the EOB youtube channel not long after. It has been a huge inspiration to me and along with a few other channels is part of the reason i can proudly say i’ve managed to get well over 2000pts of necrons and roughly 1500pts of space marines almost fully painted up to a decent table top standard and all up i’ve probably played about 20 games of 40k this year. My gaming club is planning a Mordheim campaign for the new years so am currently in the process of building a witch hunter warband. Safe to say the addiction is real. Thanks for all the great videos Jay!
Jay, honestly, it was so lovely to see you gushing over your miniatures, specially your beloved reaver titan, with its wobbly puppy dawg head, so so cute! I keep saying to myself that im going to begin my own youtube painting channel, not that i have much to offer that no one else is doing, because i dont, but i turn the big Five Oh… oh bugger lol, in 2 weeks and i been into citadel minis since the mid 80s when i was still at school, so i do have an in depth knowledge of very early warhammer fantasy, plus i was there when Rogue Trader was born, aka 40k, and right now im busy buying those metal models from my youth, to paint up once more, and to just share those really hard to find miniatures, the more obscure ones have got lost over time. But my painting skills are average at best, and i do have a speech impediment, but i dont really see those as obstacles, so who knows, maybe ill have my own channel soon, or ill just keep watching you guys 😃
Age of Sigmar 4th edition should probably be coming out this year if the three year cycle is anything to go by. This could be a good chance to commit to your Sylvaneth and hop on the bandwagon for 4th like you did for 10th with 40k. I’m gonna be doing the same with my Skaven this year!
Old world is 100% going first, probably in a few months if we are already getting warehouse pics, so there is a lot of room left in the year for aos. Also there aren't any more battletomes left for aos 3rd edition right? It'd be more shocking if they just left aos sit still in 3rd edition breaking their cycle as opposed to just coming out with 4th mid year or so@@bubbus5183
Thanks for this such impersational! Which I got "1 model" done this year a 3mm scale, 4 Pico armor M1A2 abrams MBT, on a 50mm base making one unit. All done in about 30 minutes with just a white primer and blue paint it looks good very abstract which I want their team to have more colors then just 1. But they came out so well and after the disaster of my first model... I just wanted 1 model done... and so it is!
Last year when you showed this video it inspired me to start painting more. I dont paint full time, but I was very happy with 153 models done. So I appreciate the motivation!
You remember the old WWI Land-battleships? Girls & Panzer, the anime movie, went pirate ship, with it. So what if you also went with a Snow Cat setup? Think Sicaran & Land Raider, here, back to back, fusion powered and a connection corridor between them. Can you turn it into a Pirate Snow Cat Land-Battleship? Hoist the colors!!! Heh, what if you combined that survive on your ship, with your Star Wars games? On that, you could even do the same with Kill Teams, if so wanted, in say a Spacehulk setup or so. Hell, you could also just combine your Star Wars games. As for Fallout, how many units can you make with Warhammer 40k units? Protectrons, the Mechanicus it's two robots and controller kit. Old(er) & smaller 40k Space Marines, are they as big as the current Inquisitor & Rogue Trader mini's? Because if so, then you could easily re-use them, if so wanted. Would take some work, though. Orc's are hard to fail, ever. They are ORC'S!!!!!

Despite you can always ask to look at the other trainer's card to see what it does... So yeah 40k needs a book like that to explain it's nonsense maybe a bi yearly book? Like those should not be reasons a good game can't be mastered which all games can be in my experice of littly playing thusneds of both video and TT combind in my time as press alone.

My knight dominus I know Jay wont pick one up, although i would love to see what change he would make to it but I just love mine, the image of a valiant was one of the first minis i ever saw irl, a friend of mine has a like 4k point army of Knights and at the time he let me help him on the valiant, later he showed me the rest but the first one always stuck... That's a lotta models... I believe this year, I've painted 40K stuff 4 SW characters and 6-8 SW intercessors+ reivers for my dad. Various other space marines, and random character models from other armies, in a rusty army colour scheme 2 Custodian Guard squads (Pyrithite and Sagittarum), 10 Witchseekers, 5 Vertus Praetors, Trajan, 2 Blade Champions, Telemon Heavy dread. I think that's everything Nowhere near as much as Jay, but still a decent amount in my model count over the past 3 years.
Coming back to the hobby after over 15 years (I'm 26 now) and can appreciate the game and art a lot more (and afford it haha). Also did the sarcasm go right over my head when Jay said they only made 3 Pirates movies or?? LOVE this channel. It's really got me fired up to be painting and collecting again (Finally building my Blood Angels as well as reviving my Orks with heavy inspiration from Jay's Mad Max theme.)
This was my first year in Warhammer 40k. I went ham and bought Admech/Death Guard/Krieg/Knights/TSons and Black Templars. Still working my way though painting Admech lol but I'm almost there!
I have a World Eaters Combat Patrol, WE Christmas box, War Dogs, Kharn, Box of Eightbound, and a Master of Executions just sitting and waiting for 2024. I’m very excited for it!
First started Warhammer this year- started with AdMech, which in hindsight might've been a mistake, but I love them all the same. For Christmas, I managed to pick up the old Elimination Maniple box, along with some Knight Armigers to support them. Next year, I intend to work on my new Thousand Sons army, along with continuing my AdMech. I'm also tempted to pick up some Kharadron Overlords for AoS, just to see how I feel.
I have a list of paint schemes in which there are models listed...but not precisely...so I think I painted between 35 and 45 models in 2023. One of which was big (by my standards), a Keeper of Secrets. I'd also love to play more....but I mostly paint and then play a couple of games of Warcry or Killl Team....and then return to AoS and 40K. I live in a small town and I just wonder how to convince my gaming friends to try some new games...
Looking at the minis painted this year - mostly slap chopped - I end up with 467 minis where I slayed the gray! 2,000 points armies for Dark Angels, Tyrannids and Necrons. And painting minis from board games, including the original edition of Hero Quest (yeah, I'm that old ;-p ).

In 2023 i've painted my first necrons (for my friend) started my first army for Age of Sigmar - Slaves to Darkness. And also pained several big 3d printed figures - it was wonderful. Joke about Pirates of Caribbean - was just hilarious
"I'm not happy with these boats", bruh I paint like a 10 year old. Literally why I started world eaters. Red and brass, lots of trim, and to improve on my shading game because I can't shade or blend colors to save my life. Edit: I fucking love nemesis! Always be the bad guy, friends don't exist in the vacuum of space.
I'm glad that I got a good start on my Votann - I'm finishing the Combat Patrol (beserkers) this week. I've done heap of Ultramarines (yes I like the blue boys) as well as Krieg for Kill Team (I have started the Orks but they are yet to be finished. I did a squad of Space Wolves and Imperial Fist for fun. My best achievement I think is my squad of Outriders. I went to town on the bases and am really happy with the results. The part about this year is we formed a Painting Group Chat on messenger and friends from across the east coast of Australia are in it and we talk, show progress shots, encourage and provide tips and even host the odd ZOOM painting session. It's great and connecting with others is important. We even have a few combat patrol games with the ones that live closer together. Cheers Jay great work this year! 461! WOW
I haven't kept track of all the models I've painted this year but I did keep track of all the models I built. Mostly it started as a way to catalog all the plastic I was buying but it turned into kind of milestone chasing. In 2022 I built 168 models after getting back into Warhammer that September. This year I built over 500 models for 40k, Age of Sigmar and Star Wars Legion. Like you, the vision of doing a project is too alluring to resist, especially if it comes with a bargain. I started 5 different armies this year across these 3 games but who cares as long as I'm having fun.
This year, I got a great deal on the 8th Army, and A Gentlemen's War starter box for Bolt Action. I painted all of those plus a few extra boxes of infantry, all the vehicles for the British. It was well over 150 infantry units and about 8 vehicles. We don't even play early war in our club! Oh well, I'm sure I can find someone to play sooner or later haha. Over 250 minis painted this year, and looking forward to 2024 to beating that number, and clearing out all my Bolt Action pile of opportunity!
2024 I will be delving into Black Powder and Hail Caesar whilst finishing off some MESBG! Hope you all have had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Thx for another year of content! Really appreciate it. I started an AOS crusade to own way too many stormcast miniatures, I had 0 points at the start of the year, and now I got above 10.000! Also a, give or take, 3500 points of Sylvaneth. My absolute favourite model is Bastian Carthalos, gorgeous power pose and the coolest looking armor.

From May 2023 to December 2023 I painted 2.2k of Admech, an imperial knight, and about 10k of space marines as Dark angels. Happy to post on Reddit if anyone wants to see!
I too lack self control and lashed out this Christmas and completed my 10mm Romans. An entire cohort of legionaries and another of auxilaries. Originally the centuries were made up of a mix of Pendraken miniatures Imperial Romans and Steve Barber miniatures Imperial Romans (including one each of the ships - a liburnium and a quinquireme). This year I discovered the Cromarty Forge 10mm range so I added another five centuries of legionaries as well as five more auxilaries centuries. Then whilst on the whole Roman vibe I decided to buy an army of Urban Warfares 28mm Junkers. I just love these miniatures, the whole Romanesque theme, with the scutum shields and Roman helmets, with transverse crests on the centurians, and riding dromadaries with gas masks. Whats not to love right? I'll probably use these bad boys as necromunda wastelanders, or perhaps as house guard for my Rogue Trader force, or both. Okay, I didn't need these miniatures, but boy I really wanted them, and they will sit proudly on the shelves besides the other three thousand or so miniatures I have. I am hanging out to retire and paint for several years to get them all done....thats the plan in any case.
Out of everything I primed and basecoated ( well over 200 models) I only finished 156 for 2023. My goal this year is to finish the waiting on details models, and get my Imperial Guard army on the tabletop.
This year I only painted 60ish models. Quite a step down from my 140 last year. All blood bowl. But I'm already working on the next team for blood bowl for January and have another team 50% done. Also I currently have way more of a drive to paint more.
Finished 187 models so far this year...hope to paint a few more this weekend to get closer to 200. Among them were about 2500 points of World Eaters, with Angron of course being the most ridiculous model I painted this year.
no count but I painted Marvel Zombicide core and MOTU clash for Eternia core. yet going throw Leviathan and Zombicide Iron Maiden (painted all but 2 eddies). great table looking so good.
Ordered the Warhammer 40K introductory set last week. I’m really excited to get into the hobby as it was my dream ever since I was a child, but it was just too expensive back then. Now that I have some disposable income I can finally afford it.
A friend introduced me to Dystopian wars, a game that got saved by Warcradle Studios, since you like sailing ships, you might like the sort of dystopian tesla punk battleships, mechs, and airships of this game. Plus its pretty complete in terms of rule set, the various factions have sufficient models, and are being expanded with new interesting kits. I actually finished painting my Prussian Frontline Battlefleet while watching this Video!
I started 40k exactly 1 year ago and I have over 550 minis assembled and ~70 in pile of shame but only 5 test models painted. Jay you're my motivation to get them all painted in 2024 :)
I painted tau pathfinder kt, runtherd and Gretchen,9th ed recruit ed box , 7 Tyranid termagants 5 still in primer and partial painted the ripper swarm , managed to get 3 boxes in the backlog and a McFarlane space marine I've only got back into the mini's this year and now have 2 local Warhammer shops on my doorstep so I'm in trouble 😂 going to be hard to resist,hope you and the crew have a good holiday season
After a 20 year or so break I got back into warhammer 40k from my Dark Eldar army I had as a kid. I now have like 9 factions armies and im almost all done collecting because I got my dream army... a praetorian guard limited edition set the british zulu looking dudes! so cool. can't wait to paint em the bright red vibrant colors!
it must be marketing and 'the algorithm' because I feel like 4ok is having a cultural resurgence this year, they even referenced it in South Park which is usually pretty on point with identifying what's in the public consciousness.
A lot of this looks great, but if I'd have to say I have a favorite paint job. I'd give it to your Bossk. If there is a fire save the freaking titan man.

Sylvaneth do look amazing. I was learning about 40k but seeing the Sylvaneth models made me stop dead in my tracks and shift to AoS (which I like a lot more). Your army is about 1590 points unless I counted wrong. Branchwraith is not a legal unit now, but you can proxy for Branchwych, which is a basic, cheap caster. The treelord ancient you have has an ability to make an awakend wyldwood once per game. Make the Branchwych your general and give her the command trait "spellsinger" so she can cast her spells through trees. Her unique spell on her warscroll is great if you plant a tree near the enemy. Probably run the subfaction Gnarlroot to get cast on a 3d6 (remove one die) once per turn and choose The Dwindling as your season to be able to reroll casting rolls once per turn. That is a legitimate base to an army. The Warsong revenant is a very cool model that has the same spell as the Branchwych, but it costs 300 points instead of 110. It's worth the upgrade if that's going to be a key part of your strategy. Your army is kind of all over the place. Spite revenants are almost never used, but only because they're the most underrated unit in the army. They are actually pretty efficient, especially if you have them near Drycha to get their bonus. You will probably want to reinforce them to a total of 10 rather than 5. Tree revenants are very versatile. They have their own teleport that doesn't use the Sylvaneth once-per-turn teleport. They can cap objectives, complete battle tactics, or work as a screen in a pinch. Damage and survivability are bad. Dryads are just screens. They come in sprues of 16 but you run them in units of 10. Mostly they are 10 bodies for a cheap screen. Gossamid archers are harassing units that can plink away with medium ranged attacks and usually get away when the enemy charges them. IMO, they don't do enough damage to justify their cost. Sylvaneth's biggest problem is having efficient damage. Drycha is probably the best unit in the whole faction. She has solid shooting, which Sylvaneth lacks. Her combat is good as well. She is a monster and a one cast wizard as a cherry on top. Tree lords are best used as anvils IMO. I don't prefer to run them, but they are popular. You definitely need a good hammer. Kurnoth Hunters with Great Swords are an auto include in every list. You also want spiteswarm hive from the endless spells to make charges more reliable. Finally, Spirit of Durthu is IMO the best Tree Lord variant. I would get another tree lord model to build as Durthu. Unlike the other tree lord variants, he has great damage. All tree lords have their own unique teleport that doesn't use the Sylvaneth faction teleport, so Durthu plays into the strategy very well. His damage just falls off a lot when he brackets, so you need to either run Oakenbrow subfaction to prevent bracketing or baby Durthu so he doesn't get hurt.
