This Is What Detroit's Warrendale Neighborhood Looks Like These Days

Warrendale started out as it's own city before being annexed by Detroit. Despite Detroit declining throughout the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's, Warrendale didn't start to decline until the early 2000's due to a change in the state legislature.

Copper canyon was on the other side of rouge park. It was called that because 75% of residents were police officer’s and other city workers pre 2000. Also Warrendale is 48228. West Warren is exit 8 on Southfield fwy.

Sad that "unintended consequences" like the municipal workers ruling, can completely ruin a nice little middle class community like this one. The Detroit series has been very educational. Considering many of those subdivisions were built 80+ years ago, the ones that are well maintained and groomed are in really good condition. Here in New Zealand we had a huge post WW2 building boom and styles are remarkably similar to these homes, so similar it’s like they came out of the same IKEA box.

Good vid. Live around here. The farther north you go from Warren Ave the worse it gets as far as crime goes. You will hear multiple gun shots through out the night in the summer. After Colman Young in the 80s the area really started to decline. By the 90s the blight really kicked off. Its a block by block thing. This particular area can be pretty bad in certain areas but it is cheap to live here and the closer to Dearborn the better. Its alright for singles or couples starting out if they buy/rent south of Tireman and east of Sothfield but the schools are horrible and are in really bad areas so not good for families. Joy Road, murder row, is particularly bad. The middle eastern immigrants have definitely been a small boon to the area by investing in small businesses but there is no real nite life. You can just travel down Eest Warren for food or go to West Dearborn for bars and restaurants. Rouge Park does have a small field that is maintained and used for model airplanes.

@Balal8281
@Balal8281 Год назад
@@hellokiya1not a bad area but he’s right, aim for south of Tireman if you’re thinking Warwick.. I live on Tireman on the other side of Rouge Park. It’s all still Detroit here until you pass West Parkway Ave.. but it’s a little better on this side of Rouge Park and better for families. It’s LOTS of kids in this neighborhood. Obviously if you can afford to move west of West Parkway in the suburbs of either Redford (north of Joy Rd) or Dearborn Heights (south of Joy Rd), you’d be best off.

Copper Canyon was really over by 5 mile and telegraph. When Detroit Pol lice and Fire Depts. used to require "Detroit Residence" Copper Canyon came to fame because it was one of the most safest, say up scale neighborhoods for Police and Fire servents to have a Detroit address in. Copper Canyon is more like across the Rough River from Brightmoore.

You just passed Vista Maria. A Catholic "reform school" started for pregnant girls in the 1950s but eventually became a school/ say "holding tank" for all kinds of Catholic girl criminals or say, girls who's family wanted their daughters to reform in some way. In the 70s we used to climb the fence at night and sneak up to the dorm windows etc etc.

I've heard stories about this place, but it wasn't until I moved away. Growing up around here, I always used to wonder what that place was, because it was definitely SOMETHING. It was kinda hard not to notice, even tho it's pushed way back off the street, the place is big, and I believe my GodMother & another friend of mine were once "enrolled" there. Kinda weird that they were both pregnant teenagers when they were sent, I mean attended.

I grew up at 6900 Auburn st, originally apart of Dbn Hgts sold to Detroit with stipulations, that were pretty much racist AF! Auburn had a different street name (can’t remember the name) Detroit didn’t adhere to the stipulations. I went to George Washington Carver elementary. Had amazing teachers from 2nd to the beginning of 7th grade. My sister and I lived with our dad until mother decided to lie to FOC to get custody. Detroit will forever hold my heart! My aunt/godmother still lives on Auburn next door to my childhood home, and her son lives across the street from her.
