That’s Arsene’s philosophy in a nutshell: being able to make decisions on the pitch independently. No one’s picking up on this. Additionally, the Arteta system is one that thrives under varied conditions. All of our players are adaptable which gives us more fluidity of play and diminish weaknesses. Also, the type of players gives us rotation dominance when we do pickup injuries.
Mate you’re so so right I really wanted to do a little bit on this!!! Wenger ball was a build up built on improvisations and empowering the individual. Arteta has just returned it with a harder shell! I.e the security in being able to fall back on a bit of rigidity, or sit behind the ball and soak up. Spot on mate. Spot on.
@@harveygration I would absolutly love you to do an off topic video looking at Wengers philosophy at some point (maybe when you have a lull in topics to talk about), his influence on Arteta and how the other managers Arteta has played under have moulded him into the manager he is today. I was too young to really appreciate Wenger's tactics but its clear that Mikel is influenced by him and Wenger ball defines Arsenal's values as a club, so I'd love to understand it more.
@@harveygration Spot on. Mikel corrected those weaknesses. I’m beginning to think how great a manager Pep really is by employing someone of Mikel’s vision. Pep knew. And so it was the perfect ideal situation for both parties.
My personal favourite video you’ve made for us so far-and there are a lot of great ones to choose from! The depth of analysis, the eloquence of articulation, and the thinking outside of the box is what has made you my favourite RU-vidr! Thanks again Harv ❤
Well done, Harvey. It's great to see your analysis of Arsenal alongside the development of your own understanding of this beauitful game. Keep doing what you're doing; you're really great!
This channel is so underrated. Brilliant analysis man. Really hope this team can get started with the cycle of winning things. I think it's just about tipping the scale once to open the avalanche. It doesn't have to be the prem, we can start with the cups.
I think you’re right man. And it helps that this team BELIEVES they are the best now. In my opinion at least. Thanks so much mate, that’s a really kind thing to say. So glad you enjoyed ❤️
Arteta had been planning for this kind of depth for quite some time. We thought he was buying players suiting multiple positions. But he was buying the brains that goes with it to maybe create a super team!
Highlights the importance of communication, doesn't it? Emery wasn't able to effectively communicate his ideas clearly to the decision-makers and the fans at the time, especially in an environment with high expectations. Aston Villa fans have relatively lower expectations and i'd say its fair to assume he has improved when communicating his ideas too
thanks again harvey! I am horrid at deconstructing tactics and your channel has really allowed me to the see the game in a more total way, before i used to just follow the ball (like a lot of fans) but now I try and look at off ball movements, rotations, build up shapes etc, huge for me and my enjoyment watching football, so thank you!
What an incredible comment to read! Thanks so so much. This way of consuming football is not for everyone, but for those that like it, it’s beautiful ❤️
"Arteta should definitely capitalize on Gabriel's ability to hit those pinpoint medium-to-long range switch passes. If we can consistently loop these balls across the pitch like we’re playing AI football, we can isolate Martinelli, Saka, and Trossard in 1v1 situations. It’ll stretch the defense, create overloads on the flanks, and force the opposition to scramble to cover the wide areas. Let’s keep switching, rinse and repeat, and watch the magic unfold!"
It’s interesting. At times with our rotations Gab can become a bit isolated deep and left. But his growth on the ball means he doesn’t worry me as much here anymore. Always going to have moments. But yes, his progressive stuff is improving season on season. Clips into the channel and over the top hitting real heights this season (and last year)
Harvey thank you for your work! Glad to see an interesting, argumentative video about Arsenal! Wish you all the luck in the developing of this channel!
Yes. This seems like a response to the handful of times last season when Arsenal were in a dominant position but seemed stuck too rigidly into a system that allowed little in the way of improvisation and creativity. It's like leveling up the adaptability trait. Establishing a "style of play" is something talked about constantly in football punditry. The next phase of that is to seamlessly transition into whatever style best suits the current situation.
This video summarises how I've felt about our build up and progression through the thirds without Odegaard. Someone that can receive, protect and dictate the correct pace for that phase of play. A presence we have done well to work around in their absence, but certainly missed. Great video!
Thank you so much! Super excited to see how his role modulates when he’s back. Real interesting one. And yes, if we are being hypercritical, we’ve defo missed that metronomic presence lower.
Thanks so much mate. I always appreciate seeing you in the comments! James was so welcoming, which was so nice seeing that I watch all his stuff. I will keep going mate!!❤️
A team of leaders: Ødegaard - captain of the Arsenal and Norway Merino - previous captain of Sociedad Timber - previous captain of Ajax Zinny - captain of Ukraine Rice - previous captain of West ham Havertz - vice-captain of Germany Partey - Captain of Ghana Players with leader qualities: Saka, Ben White, Jesus and Big Gabby
Thanks Harvey the great. Great video. Glad you talked about Merino’s short impact. Two questions: What do you think about inverting/releasing Saliba too often to go forward as we saw a glimpse against PSG? (Think he may have a better passing range than Rice) Can this be a total football?
Thanks so much, mate. So glad you enjoyed, means a lot. 1. Saliba is unique in the sense that for a big and long frame he has such elegance and control of himself in the tighter spaces. Letting him go certainly gets more out of him and gives us subtle moments of breaking and unpredictability (and probs gives him the odd switch more too, yes; although his range is certainly not of Rice’s). 2. It can be our version, that’s for sure. It’s Wenger ball returning with a spear and shell armour
@@harveygration always enjoy your productions. As an Arsenal fan from Ethiopia since mid 90s, I have never been this proud by the knowledge and intellect of our fan base such as you. And yours is above anyone else for me. May Lord take you to greatest heights mate!
I guess what you refer to, (and most likely Arteta’s influence for this) is Wenger’s “handbrake off” fluidity. Essentially, highly organised improvisation. Great vid - have subscribed 👏🏼 👏🏼
You are absolutely right my friend. Arsene was all about empowering the individual, and that “highly organised improvisation” as you said. Arteta has just reinstalled that with a spear and armour! Welcome to the family. Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed.
@@harveygration yep, lots of comparisons between this team and Wenger’s best teams, not just physically or tactically, but in terms of the individual intelligence. Not really thought about it in such a way. Thanks a lot. Looking forward to future vids
You seem like an incredibly eloquent and likeable fellow. That's all I wanted to say, really :) Cheers, I'll be following your movements here with pleasure.
What a lovely comment to read, thanks ever so much. I take pride in trying to present my thoughts coherently and with clarity, so it means a lot. Welcome to the family ❤️
One of the things that Maryin will add again is his vision. He sees passes others in the team don't. He will again be improving our forward play by leveraging the positioning of others around him, especially the fluidity. In fact, between when he became unavailable and now, Arsenal have become less rigid positionally. That means more options for him to pass to, and different kinds of passes as well.
Judging by how his players describe his obsessive demeanour to his work, then best be sure Mikel must have gone back and decided to revise the team's performance and level to Phase 3.9 and might just be working on getting us to Phase 3.91 😂😂
You haven't seen anything yet, Harvey. You haven't seen odegaard and Merino play together yet. If we sign Zubimendi, we take it to the next level and go further beyond.
No, simply put. Over 90mins with 10 men skews so much to put it bluntly. Then when you start to put the game states and OTHER contexts of our matches in the mix (quality of oppo, injuries, big game on big game), it makes a lot of sense. These first few games have me really excited, we’ve just had a statistically singular start to the season. Expect things to look like the Leicester game (stats wise) more often now :))
