As soon as I saw the 91st percentile for line breaking passes, it made me realize 1 thing. Havertz is going to LOVE playing in front of Merino with the types of runs he makes off the ball.
I honestly think He COULD be the key to the title. Natural left "8" with amazing vision and passing. Now Rice can play his more natural role. Can't wait to see him play
People saying Merino will be the 6 and Rice the 8 have no clue. Rice is NOT an 8, despite however much he wants to be. Merino could be a 6 or 8, but in our system, would be a phenomenal 8 and compliment Odegaard (his former team mate) very, very well.
@@BeforeThisNovember 'however much he wants to be'... my guy... arteta is the one pushing him up more, further, the bolton carabao cup game completely shuts down any argumemt against him being not being able to be an 8... because that game he was basically a full on 8. You can think he cant but hes literally shown a number of times now he can play an 8. in defense these 2 will be immovable and in attack they will be almost unstoppable... arteta really did just make his midfield the rolls royce of the league wht with rodri out major and de bruyne getting injured every 3rd match.
@BeforeThisNovember its prolly the best opportunity to show what arenal can do 'when they're free' i used bolton as an example not to focus on the opponent but to focus on OUR players individually... so like... 'watch what happens when u put rice in an out and out 8 position' kinda thing... also, its just an example i used because it was the most recent match... i can use today now too look: first goal there were only 4 red in the box and too many leicester players... sure the goal went in and he didnt actually play a part but say rice didnt push up... in a scenario like that (its common) now there only 3 arsenal players againts like... 7... and the type of player he is (tall, strong, suprisingly decent at out-the-box shots) is an ideal archetype u want from an 8... hes very much midway between a carrilero and a full box-to-box... so u pair declan rice with a player like mikel... its just too good in both directions.

I gotta feeling that when Pep leaves Arsenal will replace Man City dominating the league. Liverpool's Arne Slot is promising too.. but too early to tell. Arsenal has been very stable.
Certainly hope so because I admire our manager so much but Pep is 1 in a million, a glitch in the matrix. It will be difficult for that to happen twice succesively but I’m here for it!

Anyone who saw merino and ødegaard together at lareal knows these two complement eachother perfectly.. its a promise of the best pairing of nr 8s in world football. Only thing missing is isak 🤯
Merino and Calafiori for around £70m, in todays market, is absolutely phenomenal business. Basically traded them for Nketiah and Smith-Rowe. Let that sink in.

totally agree. I am just baffled as to how easily ( and cheaply) Arteta managed to secure two promising players in Merino and Calafiori almost netting the income we are getting from ESR and Eddie
