Yin and yang are opposing yet complementary forces in Chinese philosophy. Yin represents femininity, darkness, and the passive, while Yang represents masculinity, light, and the active.

Together, Yin Yang makes up the universe and everything in it, and neither can exist without the other. The concept of yin and yang is often represented by a symbol of a circle divided into black and white halves, with a small circle of the opposite color within each half.
