Northern Diaries Originals is a channel for stories. I think stories are the invisible bond that maintains the balance of our reality. Here, stories can take the form of films, web series, documentaries, video essays, audiobooks, or podcasts. Hope you enjoy your stay.
This movie came along at the perfect time in my life. I graduated highschool in 2003. That summer afterwards I had moved in with my dad and knew my old friends were drifting away. I did my best to keep my chin up but it was a very lonely time for me. I used to ride my bike to the library most days and one day I saw this DVD on the shelf. Looked interesting so I brought it home not expecting much but it ended up being my favorite movie. I re-watch it about once a year and it never disappoints.
We've screwed the world in every way - so much so that people who come into existence are destined to suffer in some way or the other. Show compassion. Adopt instead of procreation. Help the already suffering children instead of bringing new children into this world and forcing them to suffer.
Just because you subjectively see life as without value, just because you think all there is is suffering, or that life is net suffering, doesn’t make it true. Life is too meaningful to deprive your prospective children of, just the same as you believe life is too horrible to subject them to.
I was telling my friend the other day, sometimes i look atound me and it just doesn't feel real but she thought it was weird . I just looked and felt like, yes this is my body, doing no action, but this doesn't feel real , the sight felt like a kind of a movie so who is watching,. It comes to me sometimes. Alone under the moonlight i feel the same dissociation
Depression is like a monster hiding in the shadows that can and will attack you at anytime. You can hit the gym, eat clean, stay away from alcohol/drugs, but it will still wait for its moment, and then sink its teeth into you. You have to have as many tools as possible to fight it off when it comes. Thats real depression. It never leaves you just have to manage it and not listen when it tells you its time to give up
I relate to this comment so much. Sometimes I can go for weeks without having any "incident." Life is good, I am motivated, sun is shining etc. Then one morning, the heaviness wraps around you, to the point even getting out of bed is hard. Overthinking, panic, anxiety, negative thoughts and all the works. Constantly asking your self "what's the point!". The only thing that helps me during the spell, is the knowledge that it was better once. I felt happy awhile ago. I felt hopeful. And it will happen again. Until then, I need to get through it. Of course, this is just my personal experience. I fully understand that it is different for different people.
To this day, I crave another film or book that evokes the same feelings as 2001. There have been many horror stories set in space, but so far as I know, only 2001 has captured the _true_ horror of the cosmos. The void is more terrible than any monster could ever be.
Read Three Body Problem series by Cixin Liu. Don't watch the Netflix series. Stick through the first book as it is essential, but a run of the mill mystery. The second and third, are some of the best sci fi I've ever read. Existential dread, spine chilling revelations and beautiful meandering and pondering through space. One of my favorite memories in life involve reading this book in a train station in rural China, got so into the book that I missed my train and had to wait for night fall. I cherished reading a few pages, looking up at the night sky to process what I read, and repeating the cycle. Didn't mind the wait.
That's it!! We have our own reality, what we think of this world is just a reflection of what is subconscious perceive, our inner world (the world of forms).
Even if we assume it's a simulation, not every aspect of our lives need to be controlled. It could develop on its own after the initial set parameters.
I completely agree. Netflix did what they always do and make everyone black, brown and gay for no reason. They abandoned all the complexity and cultural foundation to the story. The show is a shallow, dei hollywood watered down flop.
Part of the plan to restore consciousness of the one who lost it; lucifer. We all hold a code. We have forgotten who we are and do not see we live in a copie of the original. This simulation is physical, made by technology and driven by a.i. its a dome. The original was created by individual creating consciousnesses, which all souled people are. Lucifer is just like us, an individual creating consciousness and the main creator of our saturnus (central sun) cell (one of many in the universe). Lucifer wanted to be god, see bible story before the flood, thats from the original world. The universe has an failsafe mechanism and destroyed the earth. We are encapsulated. The original is still there. Remember who you are, so you can escape. Your avatars ego is programmed with a lifepath (astrology), its not who you are. You, as individual creating consciousness can overrule the ego.
if you live in a simulation you are NOT free, Freedom is the problem, in a simulation you live by destiny and 'free will' doesn't exist. they cannot co-exist. Like plato noted, you are playing a part in the play.... there is a fool a king, a queen and we play our part
It is not about true freedom. But if everything is simulated, and you cannot know what the grand scheme of things is, then by that very ignorance you are free. You will never know, so you are indifferent to your destiny.
@@NorthernDiaries i feel like there is some circular logic there, in your reply. once one is aware that he is living a simulation his freedom disappears. Yes you can be blissfully ignorant, but once you KNOW, Gnosis, you cant go back.... like the matrix... once your out would you really want to go back?
@@PermacultureHomestead Interesting. The level of knowledge matters I guess. Once you know you are in a simulation, but you know nothing else, let's say, why the simulation was created, who created it, what's its purpose, can you exit the simulation, what happens when you die etc. etc. So without knowing answers to all these questions, just the knowledge that you live in a simulation does nothing to deter your freedom. You are still ignorant. You still don't know which course of action to take etc. So, in that sense, it is freedom, because you don't know your options. Talking about going back into The Matrix, one of my favorite characters from The Matrix is Cypher, who makes a deal with the machines, and goes into The Matrix to taste steak again.
@@NorthernDiaries ahh yes Cypher, the anti hero, even he had a part to play in this grand simulation. So did Judas, it was an essential part for the prophecy and destiny of Christ to be fulfilled. Even Christ had no choice.... As always i enjoy your musings on consciousness and philosophy thanks
This 16th century French philosopher predicted Simulation Hypothesis, 400 years before Nick Bostrom, The Matrix and Elon Musk popularized the philosophical thought experiment. He famously declared, "I think, therefore I am." giving birth to solipsism and fundamentally altering our understanding of our reality.
like you i am also obsessed with this movie. I haunts me in a good way. I have seen a lot of reviews about this movie, most of them talk about the director or the actor or the DOP. But your video tried to understand the soul of the movie. I loved it
