This is what your Engine has been needing all along / N54 Cowl Mod (M3 style)
Welcome back guys. On today video I will be showing you the best way to modify you Cowl / cabin air filter housing in order to have better access to working on your engine and to have better looks. I will be showing you where to cut and showing you which gasket / seal to use to prevent any water from coming in. This mod is very inexpensive, so modifying your cowl and put it on.

That's a really smart way to reduce heat soaking, yet maintain the water drainage feature of the cowl. Well done!

Great Mod and super well explained. Perhaps in a future follow up video you can show us how the Modded Cowl redirects the water from going on the engine. That would be great to see it working. Well done and very good workmanship. Phil NYC Area

Thank you bro 👍 I am looking at doing the cowl mod over since 2 out of the 3 clips that help hold the cowl in place were broken and I still see a little bit of water coming in. I actually did the test off camera, and it’s not making a good seal due to the broken clip parts. Yet It is significantly way better with the cowl mod in place.

You are real fun of n54! So many years and you still have it! I got my e94 n54 just a few months ago with 45k miles only, going to do the same thing. BTW you had an accent in your videos 4 years ago 😂 and you speak like a native 👍 great job

Excellent DIY! I've seen other DIY's for a factory N54 cowl mod, but none compare to the fantastic results you got. I just might have to give this one a try! Thank you! ...btw, how has it performed at keeping the water out?

Thank you bro 🙏 It has been just like factory OEM. The new seal on the cowl really grabs on tight. One thing I noticed is that in order to have a good seal all around; is that all 3 clips/tabs that go against the seal around the front windshield need to be good. Mine is missing 2 of those clips out of the 3, so I’m seeing some water sipping through in between the windshield and the cowl (because of those missing clips). Is not a lot, but you do need to have those clips to have a complete seal from water.

Great job, I will be using this as a guide! Quick question, do you think you could have trimmed the edges of the side of the cowl so that you can have 1 piece of weatherstrip all the way across? Similar to the m3 cowl. Looks like after trimming the top edge it could accept the weatherstrip.

Is the wires safe sitting on top of the engine like that ? Before they had a safe distance between them now looks like they are just sitting on top ?

is it really okay to let those connectors be so exposed to the water? It was covered by the top part right?

They won't be exposed to water. Once you put the cut cowl with the seal. The cables will need to be tucked in under the cowl. Pretty much moved towards the cabin.

Not at all. This is to prevent water from coming in to the engine bay. Luckily no big damages where done.

@@louisperez2915 I'm a car guy alright, 335i has enough shitty noises coming from the engine bay already. It does look way better with in done for sure. I daily drive mine so gets annoying. If there was a seal that went higher it would work better as it would seal against the bonnet like the original cowl. Had a look around but can't find anything or I would give it another shot
