The game really is about generational trauma, how Edie's coping mechanism became her obsession and how it killed her bloodline through negligence, overconfidence and toxic romanticization
I know that's a popular explanation, but I don't fully agree, it doesn't really match with what happened to Sanjay or Milton. Sanjay died while helping with disaster relief. Certainly risky but laudible risk rather than negligence. Milton, as a foil for Lewis, actually succeeded in escaping into a fantasy world, but it didn't help, because he wasn't able to find fulfillment, and death is always inevitable.
@@rngwrldngnr i think it was a combination of the two. Some deaths were definitely avoidable and show the recklessness, negligence and need for greatness of the family. Some deaths were definitely just bad luck and real life. Sometimes things just happen. Also, Sanjay was not a “finch” so I don’t think it was really included in the story as one of the “cursed” deaths.
Rose throughout the gameplay: if you know a Finch run don’t talk to them don’t speak to them don’t make eye contact just run Rose at the end of the game: HE NEEDS TO CONTINUE THE BLOODLINE!!!!!
My eyes teared up...What a lovely experience this was. The storytelling was absolutely beautiful, yet sad 😢 15:32 LMAO NOT ROSE SAYING THIS AS I WAS TYPING THE COMMENT HAHAHHAA
10:50 So Edie also disappears. Interesting. If we're going with the negligence theory, maybe her complete obsession with the house and the curse was caused by some kind of mental deterioration, and being left alone after that fight made her angry and confused enough to wander off somewhere and die. She was in her 90s, it's not impossible. 12:38 "I am *NOT* being born" I YELLED So Edith presumably died during or shortly after childbirth, leaving her son(?) to inherit the house, the stories, and the curse. I really wonder if there actually was some type of curse, or if the curse was negligence, or if the "curse" was simply the obsession with it - maybe the generational trauma of so many people, especially children, dying brutally and suddenly continually pushed the family towards dangerous situations, because they always foresaw death as their only future anyway. It's possible for Edith to also fit these last two; it's possible all the climbing and fitting into tiny spaces caused complications with the pregnancy. I'm not familiar with pregnancy tho so that might be a stretch lmao 23:53 Edith Finch really said "happy pride month" 💀💀💀 REALLY hope that the song in Gregory's story isn't copyrighted, because including the music specifically because you was told it was safe, then getting hit by a strike, would certainly piss ME off. But with Amanda and Edith, that's two very short games in a row! This was a beautiful game, with just enough mystery to obscure the real truth behind this family's long line of tragedies. The effort on the devs' part is so clear. From a professional standpoint, Lewis' death hit so hard for me due to the horrific malpractice of his psychiatrist, but wow baby Gregory hurt me so badly. Please ffs don't ever leave your children alone around water of any depth. Looking forward to whatever you've got next (and that looming 100k omg)
@@ivoryphoenix7 I took "I never saw great-grandma Edie again" (10:45) to mean that she vanished. But it doesn't outright say whether she disappeared or died. Another thing left open to interpretation I guess
You know at the beginning of the game there was an offhand comment about how the only mark Sam's ex wife (Kay) left on the house was the bathroom - given Edie's obsession with death and memorials I find it likely that she kept the bathroom how it was when Gregory died on purpose
Hello my theory is that the curse isn't real but made up by edie so she wouldn't be blamed for being a neglectful parent for the death of Molly and Gregory were jut neglect molly got a common punishment in 1900s edie made the curse up so she wasn't to blame after that all the finches started to have no regard for there lives but when dawn didn't let edith know the story edie was trying hard to make the curse real edie died from not talking her medicine properly dawn died from a sickness edith died from child birth all common deaths to have unlike the people who truly believed in the curse and had no regard for there lives
While it's certainly possible it was a means of coping, it definitely wasn't made up out of whole cloth by Edie. The historical slideshow about Odin makes it clear that when he left Norway the Finch family curse was already well known.
You need to check The Unfinished Swan, which is directly related to this game. A couple of similar and good ones are Gone home, Tachoma and Observation.
Words can't even describe how relaxed and happy your videos have made me today. Earlier on today I found out my great grandma had passed away, grieving and studying for exams is extremely stressful and I thought today was going to be horrible and I just wanted to give up completely, but then I remembered today is the day you post so I decided to keep on working and reward myself by watching today's uploads. At one point I even forgot about all the stress because your voice and aura in general is so calming 😌 just wanted to say thank you for being my super hero today and for helping me get through the day ❤❤❤ and I will always and forever look forward to your uploads 😊❤
This had become my favorite series and i absolutely love how the story unfold... its a painful ending but indeed a very well made one... Edith died at the age of 18... gosh...
Omg rose you are just so sweet for replying some of the game just so we get the whole vibes and emotions 🥹💖and why every death of this family just kept on getting worse it’s so sad man
Hiii!! I just finished watching, and I can say that for such a beautiful game it is very sad. It’s a lot of children who die, but it all happens for a reason. I love this game every time I watch someone play it, and sometimes I can put myself into the stories. I can always prepare myself for the deaths tho. I hope you truly enjoyed this game, it’s one of my many favorites. I do have a horror game suggestion, it’s called Dokidoki Literature Club. It’s basically a horror dating sim, and I can give you an idea on where the horror starts if you want. Anyway, reply if you’d like more info. Love you and you’re videos, see you laters :3
This is one of my all time favorite games, I've never been able to find one quite like it again. I'm glad the ending hit you as hard as it hit me the first time I played Edit: I'm so glad you replayed Lewis and Gregory's stories with the music on, those two are probably the most impacted by the music (in my opinion at least) so I'm glad you could experience them in their full sound and glory!
