Every Costco shopper knows that the store has some of the lowest prices around, but there are certain deals that will still make shoppers do a double take. For example, Costco sells its cooked rotisserie chicken for only $5, and the price hasn’t changed in years. No one is complaining about the quality either, as countless customers keep coming back for more, so how are they able to keep the price so low? Of course, Costco knows what they’re doing, because if you’re in the store to buy some chicken, you will likely look at other things as well. Here’s why Costco only charges $5 for a rotisserie chicken.

I don't like it very much, I went to the states two years ago and I tried the Costco chicken but something was wrong with not only the taste,but the texture, the chicken in America is too soft.

@Iraq Lobsta!! 45 I know, I've slow roasted chicken before, and it does come out tender and juicy, but there's something wrong with its texture, it threw me off. Where I come from, the chickens are smaller than the U.S, maybe because they put too much growth hormone in the chickens in the states ,and that's why they don't grow naturally, so in compromising the taste and texture of the bird.

Amani Murph that is what I ended up learning through all of it. Slow down, relax and sure as the sun will rise tomorrow everything will be OK. My kids were grown so it was just me and my dog. Every day it was like, it could be worse and for some I'm sure it is/was. As a child I would let the air out of my lungs and slowly sink to bottom of lake or pool and set on bottom. With the sun cutting through the water is was really peaceful so as adult anytime I'd get stressed I would let my mind go back to the bottom of the waters. I know it's mind over matter but for me it truly worked and now a stress free lifestyle is the natural life I live. It's a shame it's not an aid that is taught to us when we are young. It took the school of hard knocks to teach me, and today, I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for your reply and peace be with you and your loved ones.

Short version: it's what's known as a "loss leader". This is when a store intentionally sells a product for less than what it costs them to put it on the shelf in order to attract customers who will usually buy something else while they're there. Grocery stores do this with milk.

Another story.. I remember back in the day in Washington, Costco locations were very scarce. So most people would have to travel on the interstate for more than 45 minutes just for groceries. But of course, buy bulk and save, and before Costco only accepted cash! That said, the reason why Chicken, Hotdogs and food court goods were so cheap was because it was a treat for the long trek home. And some people were eating chicken in the food court!

I went into a publics and the price of a rotisserie chicken was 8.99 ,so I called Costco and ask If i could come buy just one chicken because it was like pharmacy food for the soul ,they said no so I asked if they could start selling the whole cooked at the food court ,the manager said he would look into it.I got chicken on my taste buds so I was not going to give up,I then asked if I could borrow a chicken for 4.99 and promise to buy a membership on pay day,the answer was still no and you could see the ripples starting to form on his fore head at that point I attempted to ask one more question and he blurted out just go and get 1 chick and no more and man did it taste good when I got home.I wore him down but the next day I sent an e-mail to the corporate office and recommended the he be the employee of the year. I love that Costco's chicken.

They won't increase the prices on the rotisserie chicken, or the hot dogs, or the huge pizza, but their membership keeps going up. An I'm increase of 5 bucks for the basic. Now 60/year and 10 bucks for executive 120/year. Their beef comparison by pound is not a big of a deal. How many chickens do you need to buy to consider the 2 dollar savings by going to another store a real good deal. In a year you will need to buy 30 chickens just to break even, and then after that, you will start saving money. Also, other chains sells their beef at the same or lower price (similar quality) per pound and you don't have to buy it in bulk. By going to another store, which name I won't mention, I can buy the amount of meat I need and keep rotating it in my fridge. I don't even have to freeze my meat. It tastes more delicious. I found myself eating frozen food from Costco for weeks on. At the end, it wasn't a good deal for my wallet or my belly. I found myself eating more to avoid throwing out food before they get spoiled. Some people go for the paper goods.. How much paper do you need to buy to opset the price you paid for the membership. You can easily wait until the papers are on specials on other supermarkets. Costco is an illusion to make you think you are saving money, but in reality, you're not. Take your calculator out and start adding your "savings". You'll be surprised.
@slothypunk

if you have a big family or small restaurant, you will be surprised how costco can save you money. Agree with you on individual or small family spending, costco may not be for those particular group.
@bp24911
@bp24911 5 лет назад
@@slothypunk if you have a small restaurant, there are better options available. Check your local chamber of Commerce business directory that sell wholesale. Costco is not a cost effective option for business. They don't sell wholesale. They sell retail in bulks, huge difference! Now for big families... I think there are better options out there. I can't think of any item you can buy at Costco, that you can't get cheaper any where else? Unless you have to replenish your pantry every week, its not a good buy. If you have to store products for ends on. Then, its not a good cost effective option. A trip to Costco for a small family could easily exceed 300 versus half the price in another store. You can still find a 4 roll of toilet paper for 0.99USD. If your plan is to save money, there are other options. If you want convenience in buying in bulk, you will pay for it. Again, just get your calculator and start adding things out yourself. The competition these stand alone stores face is the online business. Nowadays, consumers have better options online. You can shop online in thousands of store that will mail your groceries within 2 days for free. There are also Apps that will notify you of WEEKLY SALES from your local supermarkets. You can include ALL the supermarkets in your area or as far as you want to drive without you physically stepping in the supermarket, and all this is for free. And of course, you can still use coupons that you can get in your newspapers or also online. Again, you can pay for convenience at Costco or you can go somewhere and SAVE money. Why do you think they're increasing their membership cost?
@Bodangers

@@Bodangers and I'm not hating against Costco or similar retailers. I'm just tired to see people being taken advantage of, and don't even get me started in the banking system. Vertical integration in the food industry is driving farmers out of business. Costco, Tyson, Smithfield, etc. externalize the costs of production (barn, feed, electricity, labor), putting all of those burdens on the farmer and then only pay $0.20/bird. Not to mention the dangerous/unhealthy working and living conditions in those barns. Please don’t turn your nose up at farmers charging $15-$20/bird. That’s the actual cost to produce a good bird. It’s time Americans start to appreciate our farmers more by paying just a bit more for good food that doesn’t destroy our environment. Source: I’m a farmer...

I'm a Sam's Club member. One year my boss gave all his employees $100 gift card to Costco as part of our Christmas bonus. I used over half of my card to simply purchase the rotisserie whole chicken. My card lasted me into the start of summer. Their chicken tastes better than Sam's IMO.

It's simple. You have to have a membership to shop there. Basic membership is $50 a year. Let's say 50,000,000 people buy a membership. That's $2,500,000,000 a year not including store sales.

I have never eaten a raw Costco rotisserie chicken. One time I asked them to take them out a few minutes early, as I was in a hurry. They would not do. The rotisserie is on a timer. When the timer went off, the employee randomly checked with the type of thermometer you hold over the food. He then took them out and placed the lids on. Costco has the best return policy of any store. You should have taken it back.

There’s an easy system, 1/2 or 2/3. Charge more or charge less gambling a lower buy in will most likely sell more than ever would have at a higher point. Two fourths versus three fourths is valuable considering it’s more feet in the store.
