the midfield is the most confusing part.....that 100 touch midfielder is definately enzo...but wat about caicedo...and lavia.... and then palmer shouldnt be wasted on the wings stretching the pitch...he should be our dewsbury hall...but again defensively i dont think i need palmer that deep when we are defending if he plays the midfield role.... GUESS ITS DILEMNA GALORE FOR MARESCA
Haha this is what I spent forever trying to decide over. Enzo defo the deep lying playmaker but Palmer is that position o can’t decide. As I said In the video Dewsbury-Hall averages 5 shot creating actions a game which only Palmer does in this squad, and Palmer has to have a free roaming central role otherwise he’s wasted so then surely he goes into the midfield, but then how does he lineup in a defensive shape when he’s central! Maresca has a big dilemma on his hands but my prediction is he plays in that dewsbury-hall role
I don’t think the midfield is that complicated. Enzo and caicedo playing together for the most part doesn’t work and they sort of cancel each other out due to their strongest capabilities being the play maker especially in deep areas. Any other role doesn’t click well as much as you’d want it to We’ve seen them play together multiple times and every time someone else is paired with caicedo(Gallagher) it works. enzo should come from the bench atleast at the very start of the season I’d rather have lavia or chukwumeca next to caicedo and put palmer in the 10 role and see where we go from there. Also what’s your take or view on Gusto playing as a left back? Having both gusto and james on the pitch wouldn’t sound so bad as an idea because we’ve seen him play there before and was excellent. His defensive capabilities is just as immaculate as his attack. I don’t see why not. Also I’d prefer nkunku and Jackson on opposite wings if we get a new striker. Jackson played effectively as the right winger at Villareal and would honestly pick him over Madueke. My prefered formation would look like this your thoughts on that? New striker Nkunku Palmer Jackson Lavia/chuku caicedo Gusto colwil Tosin james
Sorry for the late reply 😅… I have no issues with Gusto at left back. He’s done it before to a high quality. With James out for the first 3 games tho he will have to play right back instead. I actually really like the versatility of cucurella though and for me unless we sign Calafiori I’d play him. Personally I actually think Enzo and Caicedo would be a perfect midfield duo 🤷♂️ I think they both offer what the other doesn’t. My only issue with it is that like you, I’d rather see Lavia and Chukwuemeka also find game time and it could be Lavia’s breakthrough season I’m personally not a fan of Jackson on the right win, I don’t think it works because he isn’t a natural winger, but at least on the left side he can cut in and shoot with his stronger foot. I’d rather if that’s the system have Nkunku right and Jackson left. Although going off of the players Maresca likes I really don’t think he would do that. Olise/Madueke on that right wing who can interchange with Palmer would be more ideal and for me Sterling or Mudryk can replicate what Mavididi did at Leicester last season.
Not a chance will Jackson and Nkuku fight for a spot while average Mudryk and average Madueke are in🤦🏾♂️🤣 Unless we buy a winger and a striker, Jackson and Nkunku are both starting. Probably only one of those 2 averages will start.
I personally think Madueke had a really impressive end to the season and has to start RW if it’s not Palmer. I understand Jackson might play off the left over Mudryk tho it depends on who they’re up against imo 😅🤷♂️
I partly agree, but I only think it comes from a desire to want to play more and get more attacking opportunities. I didn’t like the penalty argument but at least he showed a desire to want to take it and boost his confidence. And when he sulks for being subbed off, whilst you should just accept it and get off the pitch, it’s nice to see a player who wants to keep trying and give his all? That’s the feeling I get from him anyway 😅🤷♂️
@@CameronSchultzFC honestly, I’m optimistic I’ve spent the past couple days watching his interviews and how he plays. He’s a proper coach. I just hope he can implement his style immediately and start the season well, so it buys him time. I think he will improve the players. Football is changing. Look at Bayern, Juve, Leverkusen, Spurs, Liverpool. This is the new school of managers, clubs all want a style of play and don’t care about resume anymore. “Can you coach sexy football? Yes?”Okay your signed 🤣
I think personally the Pep and Klopp rivalry has changed football. The likes of Motta to Juventus and Kompany to Bayern too. Top clubs these days want a long term project with attractive football. After pochettino left, Tuchel, Flick, Conte, Moutinho, Allegri we’re all available and yet as they’re older than 50 and play a different style of football they suddenly aren’t considered for the jobs. Arteta proving what a young manager can do when given time. Same with Hoeness and Alonso, and which is why I think Man United should stick with Ten Hag
Do you think Palmer has some of his qualities wasted being forced out wide by the touch line? His best moments this season have come from him dropping into Zone 14/central areas imo so I would hate to lose that talent 🤷♂️
It feels like it’s going to head that way. Personally anything less than 6th is a poor season on the fact we have european football too, which I’d expect at least the semi finals in too. Definitely don’t see us as pushing the title but like you said, hopefully top 3 or 4 alongside Liverpool, Villa, Spurs roughly
I think he’s the best winger at holding the width personally which is why I went with him, but I agree technically and intelligence wise he’s way off it. I have a weird feeling he will be much better this season tho idk why 🤷♂️😅
Very detailed on all of your lineup options, I agree with all this different formations and how they could work, I only disagree on your preferred strongest lineup , i would use Lavia instead of Maudeke strongest lineup as my strongest lineup , also Jackson has to get minutes in there somehow , maybe over Mudryk or Lavia at times.
I’m seeing a lot of people go for Lavia instead of Madueke and move Palmer to the right. My biggest worry about that is in transition, Palmer would be basically the widest attacker near the touch line which personally I think limits his abilities, as his best moments I think have been from when he’s had a free roaming role within the central areas to link up play and create shooting opportunities 🤷♂️😅 Fully agree about Mudryk vs Jackson tho
@CameronSchultzFC makes sense to try to maximize Palmer , but I'd rather maximize the whole squad instead of relying or playing through just one player when Chelsea's has a plethora of other talents in the squad that can also be gsme changers , besides Pamer does well on the right side and can still roam around the center of the box on certain occasion, playing on the right side doesn't mean he has to stay there put, this squad has interchangeable pieces and many different tactics of playing when everyone's fit.
I think he could interchange well and the system is quite fluid, but for Maresca this season Fatawu does stay wide on the right because there is no overlapping full back. My concern with him then drifting inwards is who will then pick up the RW spot as ideally I wouldn’t want that to be Caicedo or Lavia. Hard to explain, but I think it worked under Poch as when Palmer drifted central Madueke or Gusto would then take up the winger role
Good stuff Cameron, appreciate your insights and the thought put into this. I am not a fan of Mudryk however, he just seemed off this past season and doesn’t come off as a smart player / thinker. I’d rather see Jackson as the left wing and Nkunku as the striker / finisher. These two can flip flop of course but Jackson’s touch and quality inside the box is horrible. He missed at least 10 solid opportunities last season because of his first or last touch. I’m optimistic about the season to come, including more consistency and less injuries. Cheers
Thanks Geoff I appreciate that 😁. For me Nkunku has to start as the striker I agree instead of Jackson (obviously could change if a new striker is signed). It was a debate for me between Jackson and Mudryk for that left wing role, and just based on the stats in comparison to Mavididi and style of play, mudryk seems the more likely. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t my favourite choice and I definitely do agree he hasn’t shown he’s a smart player on or off the ball, but just a feeling this is who Maresca would prefer. I’m hopeful this season will be a good one, frustrated that I think we have to go another season being patient as a new style of play is adopted but with some time I’m actually very excited for what Maresca could achieve 👍
@@CameronSchultzFCit would be interesting to see how he set up the team to play against Arsenal and City. Is he still gonna try to play possession or he set up the team for counter attack. But he sounds like someone who want to stick with one philosophy which one of them is to control with possession.
@@footballfan5048 I’d be surprised if he changes style to play against these teams, unless we’re like 3-1 up and want to defend the lead in a low block, I think he’d rather lose by playing possession football than maybe draw by parking the bus
@@CameronSchultzFC yeah I just think that we gonna see some big battering when things don't work out on the field and he is being persistent on his way of play. And then Chelsea fans and the media as usual will go for his throat right away. I wonder how flexible can he be when things don't work out.
I think the biggest test for him won’t be tactics or results etc, it’ll be how he can cope with the media and backlash on the big stage at a huge club because inevitably he’s not going to win the league in his first season (although I would if he did) and he’s got a big squad to sort through so some players are going to have to be sold/dropped so he will need to be confident in justifying them decisions
@@CameronSchultzFC the first lineup, Chilwell can drop into LB and Chukwumueka or Palmer drop into the 8 for a 433 or both drop into LM and RM position for a 442 defensive shape
Purely based on the profiles that Maresca likes. If I had my way the strongest squad would be a different formation with no Mudryk in the squad but he’s probably the most similar to Mavididi at Leicester and I think Maresca could get more out of him. The only other option would be Jackson left wing instesd imo
@@CameronSchultzFC of rather Jackson at left wing than Mudryk. I think Mudryk needs to be loaned to a team where he'll get proper minutes in EPL or in the Championship. He's been quite underwhelming.
@CameronSchultzFC perhaps a loan to Crystal Palace, and we buy Michael Olise. We definitely must offer Lukaku to Napoli and try to get Victor Osimhen in. That would be an intelligent business 👌🏾
I frankly think colwill will start out left and disasi will play instead. Our dear captain will invert. Also, feel Gallagher should start ahead of caicedo coz 1) he's a proper blue and 2) he'll add another layer of defense to help out enzo. Front 3, I think nkunku Noni and their striker is the best. Also shout out, kepa isn't that bad with the ball. I feel he should start. But good stuff on general.😊
I Love Gallagher so I’d for sure try and fit him into this team more so than Lavia but I have a feeling he will be sold this summer hence I planned the squad without him. I rate Kepa more than most and his passing numbers are brilliant but I always worry with his ability to save long shots. Would you play Nkunku on the left, and who you sign for striker?
Caicedo is a much better technical player than Gallagher. Maresca will be looking for control and accuracy. While Gallagher might get in the team somewhere, it won't be ahead of Caicedo.
Maresca isn't gonna do anything the team started playing well under Poch all Maresca is going to be doing is receive all the credits 😢 Jose Mourinho would have made this team amazing...
Personally as much as I respect Mourinho and love him, I don’t think he was the right man for this job. I think Maresca maybe not my first choice is a decent long term option who suits the modern game 🤷♂️
@@CameronSchultzFCI think Chelsea is playing it safe by hiring Maresca maybe because they were already behind their objectives 3 seasons in a row now. And Maresca is likely gonna do well but not dominating. De Zerbi and Mc Kenna is more risk but they could dominate given this Chelsea team.
Yeah I think provided there’s not immediate expectations to be winning the league, his style is tried and tested and as we’ve seen with Pep and then Arteta, the philosophy works. As long as defensively we are solid Im not too worried, I would’ve loved De Zerbi but I had some defensive concerns with him
