Not really. Grand cannons couldn't do shit against air. And you can't turtle very long if you run out of ore, and Grand Cannons took up alot of power. One UFO or spy or damaged power plant and cannons stop
I mostly play with Korea since i loved using air fighter units, They're pretty effective in my case, then sometimes use mirage tanks to be my backup for anti-air units.
It is my favorite rushing civ. Develop a build order, pack the mcv, unpack it near the enemy base, build a grand canon and watch it annihilate the enemy army and base. (Only work in 1v1 easy ai, iirc)
cnc 1 has obelisks, Ra1 has teslas, ra2 grand canyons, ra3 has multigunner turret spam or soviet crane build with mcv push into teslas, tib wars and kanes wrath have all 3 factions that can bas push, obelisk, sonic emitters and shard launchers for scrin. Only game I cant think of is tiberium sun that doesnt lol
@@adamg5780 there is the old cannisrules mod that made it so grand cannons can gain veterancy and the French could also build Grand Rapiers which was a long range anti air platform
Yeah, nowhere did he mention why anyone hates France with this game. lol I figure we're supposed to guess it's due to the much later build super cannons. hehe
Did you actually play the game when it first came out years and years ago? I spent many sleepless nights and countless days on this game. Multiple top 5 solo finishes and numerous rank 1 clans. It was amazing times!!!!
Everyone gangsta until the Grand Cannon starts creeping toward them. btw, those Gap Generators hogging your power driving me nut, but that would slip out of my mind too during major brown alert mode.
In RA2, you can assign numbers to groups of tanks, and what I found best as an Allied base was to set "1" to a group of Mirages, "2" to a group of Prisms, and "3" to those anti-aircraft vehicles, and then storm and utterly destroy an enemy base, by sending in the Mirages first to fry infantry and blow up vehicles who couldn't see you, then the Prisms to destroy buildings one after the other with their long range, and bring up the anti-aircraft vehicles to protect your vehicles from Rocketeers and Kirovs just in case they fought back from the air! Great times, great game!
I always kept harriers or black eagles on my #1 slot. Whenever I saw a ore truck without anti-air guards, I press 1 and click attack. Might not seem like a huge deal but killing some harvesters is very frustrating for a human enemy and can have good knock-on economic effects that make it easier to win later in the game
@1:10 he teleported the chrono miner out of the war factory to the refinery so it would take less time to get to the ore. That was indeed a pro gamer move.
One of my favorite games of all time. I always joined local and regional tournaments when I was in high school, won a few but never really played in nationals and internationals. Most tournaments usually banned France (my fav), US, and Cuba.
This game is great, and some of my favorite memories was playing the hell out of this after high school with my best friend. Lol good times. Honestly though, Red Alert 1 was definitely my favorite one. You could set the computer on very hard on skirmish mode, and I absolutely loved the chaos and challenge. I would defend my base with mostly pillboxes while the computer sent out these massive waves, and I always loved the challenge of seeing how long I could survive. Just under half the time I was able to make it, since pillboxes are affordable and are decent against most targets. If done properly, they actually took out tanks fairly well if you created a sort of bottleneck with a few artillery in the back.
would U.S not have better?? France has a longer history and thus can say more overall wars won but the U.S...just never really loses a draw in 1812 a Draw that was closer to a win in Korea a Lose in nam and Afganistan but then constant victory's during the modern era being so easy and decisive there often not even seen as wars because the U.S insta wins in a few days so not only does the U.S seem to win constantly it does so overwhelmingly without struggle
@@scottgrasser9475 I noticed it's easier for you to list America's defeats and draws, then it is to list their "constant victories". Can I ask, what are these "constant victories" you speak of? The most recent one I can think of was Afghanistan, where 20 years of war, 5.8 trillion dollars spent and all America did cause havoc for the locals for 20 years, then when they tucked their tales and left, they left behind billions of dollars worth of state of the art military equipment for the Taliban, who went straight back into power and now control the country more so than they did before America's "help"! 🤦🏽♂️😂 Has America had any modern victories?...
@@Until_It_Is_Done because the only time U.S loses or draws is when it takes years and years U.S constantly has victory's that barely make the news Libya is a recent one while iraq and afganistan did not go 100 percent to plan we did decimate the terrorist organizations Syria we failed to overthrow the government but still hold land there and have much of the country's oil hundreds of country's we overthrew the leaders of during the cold war sanctions are a weapon of war and we have used them to basically single handedly decided what country's can be world players
I remember there was a Expansion where all Faction has their own Canon Allied has Grand Canon, Soviet has Tesla Canon an Yuri Has Chaos Canon. and also there were only 3 Factions to choose. It was "Yuri's Revenge Eagle Red" but there are a lot of variety of this expansion
Until now I thought it was a war crime to fire on parachutists, but only if they jumped from a falling/destroyed aircraft, contrary to paratroopers with the intent to attack upon landing.
Played this once upon a time and somebody had french cannons surrounding his base making it a challenge to infiltrate. Dropped some chrono legionnaires into his base one by one and the rest was history. His french cannons ended up blowing his own base to pieces instead. Work smarter not harder
That's a silly-sized map for more than two players damn. I guess it's faster but it benefits some factions more than others. Americans basically have nothing anymore since paratroops main selling point is frontline deployment / flanking, british snipers have nothing to do, iraq has nowhere to deploy desolators for zoning, libyan trucks can't sneak in. Leaves only Korea, France, Germany, Russia and Cuba with viable unique technologies, every other faction is a non-pick (unless you can justify picking america for revealing the map with the paratrooper plane)
An ever growing op line of prism towers extending into an enemy base like the devil's long and muscular clawed hand reaching out to impale you.... ooooft! I played as France the other day in a 1v1 brutal ai and managed to build 3 grand cannons on the front borderline of their base next to the midland oilfield in May Day (one of my favorite maps). and not only did that secure my place in the only land based choke point but they also didn't even have any naval or air support to bypass or destroy it. So yeah aircraft carriers and chorono legionairs to hit them in the soft spots while they were held back won me the game 😊
There exist many variations of cannon rushes, some really all in others only to for example deny the zergs natural, another variation is a nexus first into forge I think, wich is pretty much macro focused (similar to a Standart 12 pool)
No it really couldn't. France is an extremely map dependent faction, and this map is a very strong for France. France is overpowered when the grand cannons allow you to control neutral areas/resources (IE, the gem field), from positions that by default belong to you. In this map you can build grand cannons from your starting location that allow you to very easily control the center gem field. The fact that this map is very small also means you can easily base walk as well. This simply isn't the case for most non-island maps.
@@maxwilliams9203 agreed - the only way they could have won was if they both attacked at the same time before he set up with a cannon. Most people aren’t good enough to base walk AND keep their army strong, which gives opponents room to outplay France, but since in this case France controls all of the gems he’s impossible to beat 1v1. Even then, his opponents had moments.
Put in an engineer to AVP (i forgot the vehicle name/vehicle that can fixed) and bring it behind 2 prism tanks to enemy land (you don't have to clicked the target, just stay around in curtain area, they know what they have to do). That's the 1 thing you have to do before make a grand canon. And you're victorious quickly.
I once went up against a France-faction player in an LvR map. They built 3 rows of Grand Cannons, which I couldn't penetrate, with decent air defences. It was going to cost me a lot to attack them. Then I saw that one of my harvesters starting going to their side, and saw that it could tank a lot of shots before dying. So I sent my 6 harvesters to their side, and watched a quarter of their base get destroyed before they raged quit. Never played after that - I knew that was the pinnacle of my RA2 experience
Usually I target the power plants when playing against France. But yeah, the french GC is just overwhelming to attack I miss playing this game Love that I found your stream
People who played FFA with me always complain whenever they got twice attack at the same time and they just blah blah their trash complain about the game as I am getting over triple attacked at the same time I aren't say a word because I know it was FFA mode everyone is attacking everyone, can't be sad when u got multiple attack.
Well if i play some FFA and when i get attacked by 2 or 3 at the same time, i would just say "well im dead lol". I've learned a lot not to take the game very serious.
Wish you would see this But, I bought this game in the origin along with the Ultimate collection, I installed it but when I try and load up the app it just says *unable to set video mode* Do you know how to fix this issue? Well, if someone does see this any help would be much obliged.
In my opinion, Germany should have been the country with the grand cannon. Real life Germany loved oversized artillery. The railway guns of WWII for example.
@@BryanVahey it's made by Westwood aswell it's a awesome game definitely worth checking out. Wish I had a PlayStation 1 to get it again 🤣 very similar to this. 3 factions. The recourse is called spice each whilst the troops the same for each faction they each have 1 that's different from the rest.. I remember the green guys had a missile launcher that turned a enemy tank friendly briefly. Seriously worth checking it out if you love C&C
Hello i m the creator of the french grand cannon rush in 2000 Well the debate was between me and darlok45 from -FC- but It was the funniest rush ever created in any game. Still Remember my father looking at his clock for the 2 minutes mark because if ppl quit under 3 minutes Westwood server didn't register games against free wins on ladder. Ifv+ENG random Building Stolen Grand cannon yard down in 3 hits. 🎉🎉 Miss those times
My favorite part of this is the complaints about “France makes map unplayable” after literally everyone on the map tried (and failed) to beat one player. The Grand Cannons didn’t even factor in 2 of the 4 major attacks because they were naval assaults. 🤣
Yep. Yellow screwed up his first naval assault by just letting Bryan put out dolphins to ruin his Dreads. Then yellow wasted his Rhinos + IC on unimportant structures at the edge of the base instead of going in for something more important. Then orange sent in all his tanks and got absolutely nothing for it. Orange also spent a crapload of money on dolphins that couldn't do anything because nobody else was heavy on naval. Of course they couldn't defend against Grand Cannon base walking after wasting money and units on such bad plays. Maybe Grand Cannons are nasty, but at the same time, playing poorly also makes the map unplayable.
I was screaming at the screen for him to sell the motherf'ing gap generators when he was attacked by orange and went low power and he was selling ore refineries and stuff.... smh...
Lol to be fair not selling the gap generators may have won him the game At the end when the guy used his storm on his base he basically thought that he would be able to cut his power with that storm to stop the canons he didn't know that bryan was building power to the left which was hidden by the gap
@@zeyadgabr8682 even so, he could have sold at least 2 of them... he had 3 right next to one another from when he was trying to base walk over to yellow
@@NeaGigel2008 you may have misunderstood my comment lol I didn't mean that the gap is what gave him the win he was already in good place to get the win even if that storm hit his power it would have just made the game a little longer and like you said he did have an excess number of gaps but we can't fault the guy it's hard to be perfect in a game like red alert 2 yr where you make decisions and moves on the fly though I had the same reaction as you when he started selling some buildings lol it was a great game though
@@ryany4n I can't remember the game right now but did the other player have a spy sat if so then he would see the defenceless power to the left which would be a super juicy target if he could not deal with the grand canons then he basically have no hope to win even if he had much better tanks than Bryan
This 15 minute game would have taken 3 weeks in 2000. Playing at night-time when we could use the phone line for our 56k Modems and units moving 1 pixel per 10 seconds.
I love this game. Just installed it and played after installing... Brings back some wonderful memories with this game... And whats amazing is it ran on a windows 10!!!
used to play this game and tiberian sun like non stop as a teen.. i did competitive too online ranked games, was #1 for many months. nothing could stop the spider terror drones on the ore refiners and tank rush's lol.. little suggestion.. if you only have 3 ore miners, but two ore refineries sell one for extra cash in the beggining.. and 3 ore miners is not enough early on like you did, you should have at least 4. if youre going to stack tanks and so forth like you did, build multple war factories, everything builds faster
Man I remember playing this. Never played multiayer cause of dial up. But I loved the french grand cannon. Best gun in the game. Always have one ready to set up at a moments notice. Set up two pillboxes and an aa turret next to it and it's basically untouchable.
I would 100% pay a subscription for a remastered RA2. It boggles my mind why video game companies won't just polish graphics and game mechanics and resell the game. This game and Savage 2 would be a deadly combo if rereleased.
Put up the base and cover. 4 Chrono miners, then 4 battle fortresses with a chronolegionaire and 4 guardian GI's loaded, 10 Prisms and 4 IFV's loaded with engineers on guard... With GB, a sniper on each battle fortress is the best.
GODDAMMIT, I MISS THIS GAME! I must've played so many hours of this, my favourite C&C game back over 10 years ago, with skirmish mode against as many as 7 AI opponents with superweapons, and won most of the time on Easy! I wish I could play it again, but it's not on Steam.
Never played this game before, but i'm surprised that buildings can be erected immediately. Also the resource gathering is kinda unique. Then again, all i'm playing is starcraft 2 and warcraft 3
