There's nothing to like about any part of New York - thanks to the useless Mayor deBlasio and moron Andrew Cuomo. They love RUINING New York - and America will be next. I grew up in NYC and Brooklyn when it was the heart of America -- now, it's just a dump.

5th Avenue is barely Park Slope. Growing up there in the 90s, 5th avenue was deserted because it was only one block away from 4th avenue, and 4th was where you went when you wanted to get mugged. It's so bizarre to see it filled with like trendy bars and hipsters now, and to see forth ave full of glass and steel luxury apartments. 7th Avenue is the true lifeblood avenue of the Neighborhood though.

I lived on Prospect Park South West and I loved it so much. I miss my apartment, and I miss the location. There was a horse stable within walking distance, there were goats and chickens in the street by that stable. I utilized that park almost every single day. I traversersed the blocks of Park Slope and all of the avenues every single day and you can never get tired of it. I always knew a thousand people as I walked home from the train station. My kids used to say " No talking" because it would take me an extra hour to reach home as I would catch up with all of the people that I knew. I moved to Florida in 2006, I don't know what I was thinking... BUT, let me tell you, I am very happy that YOU chose this neighborhood and that you are about to have the best experience of your life.

Welcome to Outer Boroughs world! 😀 As things to do maybe horse riding in Prospect park? To me Brooklyn botanical gardens is best place to visit. Actually really cool and free on certain days. And also used to visit Brooklyn museum which has pretty interesting expos. One time long back saw Russian queen jewelry expo there. Keep an eye for huge minorah lighting end of December (Hanukkah) at Grand Army Plaza. And maybe check out Beacon’s Closet Thrift store.

It's the trees in Park Slope. Having them around makes a WORLD of difference, when coming in from Manhattan. I remember when I worked in the city and I always felt like I was drained of energy during the day, until I got home, and it took me a long time to realize that was why.

@@christthelord91 That's one of Park Slope's few cons, not one of its many benefits. DeBlasio sucks lmao, and the fact that he wastes taxpayer money because he'd rather be in Brooklyn than doing his job is one of the reasons for that. I voted for him the first time around, but he's been a monumental disappointment since just about the day he stepped into office.

I love the Park Slope vibe. In my last trip to NYC, back in January, my girlfriend and I went to Park Slope to explore some more the area and it was really nice. Quiet but with energy bobling up. And a bit spooky at night, which I personally loved. We went to a café and listening around some conversations there was this guy talking about a movie he just made and was about to premiere, I don't know, it was really cool. By the way, in almost every video talking about or showing Brooklyn there is this like competition feeling with Manhattan, but what I like about Brooklyn is, precisely, that is not Manhattan. Don't get me wrong, I also have been completly obsesed with the idea that NYC was only about Manhattan. And even just some parts of Manhattan, like Midtown or the Lower East and West Side. But Brooklyn has its own way, its own mood, and that is something cool because makes NYC richer and more interesting. You can explore everything Manhattan has to offer, but also what Brooklyn, Queens and even The Bronx has to offer, which is not less. So I appreciate when people stop comparing Brooklyn with Manhattan and stops saying if it's more quiet or not, or if its has the hussle of Manhattan or not and just starts enyoing how is Brooklyn itself. I may extended myself a bit too much haha

Moving to Brooklyn doesn't make you a "New Yorker", it makes you a transplant. You gotta be born & raised here to be a New Yorker.
@SRosenberg203
@SRosenberg203 3 года назад
@@JRBKLYN718 That's not true, it's possible to become a New Yorker, it just takes time and dedication. I say this as someone who was born in Park Slope, and has lived in Brooklyn for all 34 years of my life. It's possible for people to become New Yorkers, but they have to demonstrate certain skills and pieces of knowledge before they earn their NYC citizenship. Factors include, but are not limited to, being on a first name basis with the guys running your local bodega, knowing the exact location of the objectively best pizzeria in the each borough (Di Fara's, Lombardi's, Louie & Ernie's, Joe & Pat's, and Newpark Pizza), and being able to accurately explain the subway system to a tourist. There are other factors required, but those are the most important ones in my view.

You can go many directions on your blog….. or combine all the elements on “Life in Brooklyn”… I moved to Park Slope in Sept 1981… at the mid beginning of its transition into “desirability”….previously I was a Bostonian… came here for theater …stumbled on the neighborhood… it was the quintessential Brooklyn movie ready neighborhood… not quite “The Patty Duke Show” and not the neighborhood where all the “tuffs” came from…thinking Stanwyck and Cagney….great neighborhood that saw a little decline but never Bed Sty…East New York …Bushwick proportions…I lived on Garfield by 7th … heart of the then Slope… 7th Ave was the commercial hub… 5th was rough… PS went to 9th on one side and Flatbush on the other… Prospect Park….and 6th Ave to 5th… dicey businesses on 5th but there were a few pockets of old time businesses that still enjoyed a good costumer base…then after 4 years moved on 7th between 10th and 11th streets… PS was pushing out… there for 4 years and then bought a place in Prospect Park South (late 1987)…love my neighborhood…. Love Brooklyn…. Interview people…

Plus a party place with a Manhattan feel. Subway d train 9th ave or RND 4th ave. The B 63 down to bay ridge to the bridge go past your house to the end of atlantic ave to water front park. You really did pick the nicest neighborhood. Walking distance to largest public library when it opens again they have music and other programs. Prospect park farmers market across from library Art museum again free programs once a month when everything opens and the botanical gardens and zoo.

Yeah it is a nice community. I have to say this though, back in my school photographer days, I hated Park Slope. Never an open parking space. Had to ether use a garage or hope I catch someone leaving on the correct side of the road. Parking wise, some areas of the boroughs are better than other. To those who say, why didn’t you just take the subway? It was impractical due to all the equipment I had to carry.

That's fair. Park Slope is not a friendly place to people trying to find somewhere to put their car, which is ironic considering the name. It's not uncommon, if you have a car, to spend 20 minutes looking for parking and end up parking like 8 blocks away from where you're actually going. My dad always calls finding a parking spot directly outside of where you're going a "Chuck Space" after a friend of his from college who somehow could always find parking right outside wherever he was going, but finding a Chuck Space in Park Slope is more difficult than finding a unicorn.

5th avenue is great. Also, check out Sotto Voce on 7th avenue. It is a really nice Italian place. Hopefully, when they open up fully, you can enjoy the ambiance. Yes, I love that people leave books on their stoop for anyone to take.
@SRosenberg203
@SRosenberg203 3 года назад
I've never been a huge fan of Sotto Voce, but I agree that one of my favorite things about Park Slope is just free books on any block. A fair number of books on my shelf I've just picked up from someone's stoop, and when I still lived in the Slope I would periodically leave books out that I didn't have space for anymore.

@@larrycj4382 Well, that's not entirely true anymore, though it was true not long ago. When I was a kid in the 90s, we had four distinct seasons. But spring and autumn get shorter and shorter every year, and we just jump directly from winter to summer and back to winter again.

@@SRosenberg203 Well, I am still here in NYC. Yes, seasons vary by year, but we still have them. It is spring now and 48 degrees F @ this hour today, which is normal for March. Am looking forward to spring blossoming over the next few weeks. 🌺

@@larrycj4382 I am very much looking forward to the spring blossoming too. I"m here in Brooklyn, and while it is a beautiful day today, two weeks ago it was essentially the depths of winter, and in four weeks from now we're going to be baking. Perhaps I'm being a little hyperbolic, but the trend I'm describing, with shorter spring/fall seasons, and longer summer/winter seasons is definitely occurring.

Like I said in your previous video, I lived in Park Slope from 1998 - 2000 (I had a view of the Twin Towers). I moved away for a job offer, but one thing that still sits in my mind is the incredibly annoying 24/7 car alarms. Even with my windows closed, I got very little sleep for 2 years. I was glad to get away from that. Glad to hear that changed.
@HereBeBarr

Lmao I remember the car alarms from when I was a kid. I guess you just weren't in the slope long enough, because I learned to tune them out by age 4 or 5, I barely even hear them anymore haha. Though, nowadays you don't hear them as much. In the 90s there was a big epidemic with car thefts, which has significantly decreased in the years since.

The kind of Brooklyn that is beautiful is largely northwest Brooklyn, what's dubbed as "brownstone Brooklyn"; and it consists of Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, and Park Slope. You could also add Windsor Terrace, Prospect Heights, Clinton Hill, and Fort Greene, as they're nice, architecturally interesting neighborhoods. Williamsburg is considered trendy, as well, though it's not known for its architecture. Also interesting, for its Victorian houses, are Beverley, Argyle, and Cortelyou roads, south of Prospect Park. Bed-Sty may be up and coming because of the brownstone architecture there, but it's still dicey. The rest of Brooklyn, I'm sad to say, is nothing special: it's either blah, ugly, or blah and ugly. Still, the neighborhoods I've named do take up a large part of the borough; and there's plenty to explore there.
