I think the disappearing on award shows thing started as a clever way to be able to sit together. Think about it, it really started in 2016, during separation era, and I think the company was so dead set on not letting them be by each other that they realized that if they left together and came back in the same direction, it would be really suspicious to have one of them go all the way across to the other side. So they used it as a way to make it possible to sit next to each other during the award show. They were always cut during Run episodes and BBs, there wasn't much they could do about seating in interviews, but no one could stop them from "needing to go to the bathroom" or whatever they use as their excuse. Award shows were a perfect way to actually be allowed to be together in front of the cameras (well, fan cameras anyway). And now they probably keep doing that just because of habit, and maybe it's a time they get just for them (God knows these boys are really busy and probably don't have a lot of time to just hang out). It's just a theory, but I think it makes the most sense due to the timing.
