The earpieces are the singers personal monitors so that they can keep in time with the music and hear themselves and some select few instruments. Some singers rip the earpiece out because the FOH engineer is not mixing the music properly therefore the singers can not perform as well as they could because they cant hear properly and go along with the timing.

The lasers thing is so true. I work a theatre and Matilda the musical uses lasers and there was a strict lock down on the theatre when the lighting guys were resetting them. Not a single human was allowed in.

Love your video!! Actually, singers take their in ears out if they have a bad sound balance in their phones or if they can’t hear themselves with the ears in. It’s actually really difficult to sing on key without them in a stadium because the acoustics make an echo that comes back to them delayed.

No. Autotune is the worst. If the singer can't stay on-key they should practice more or do something else.

VMAs hit a historical low this year. "musicians" are more preoccupied with trying to be political than making good music and the audience is sick of it. mentally disturbed people taking the stage for very lq performances with zero meaning other than self victimising. it's just painful to watch.

Greg, you're so the man. I didn't watch this yesterday because ugh pop culture. And then I watched it and was all this was actually cool. I shouldn't doubt my northern bruvs. But us Gen Xers are still bitter when MTV was ours and then they dumped us for a younger demographic. Then VH1 picked us up and we're like, dang I'm old now huh. And then when they dumped us, well I guess we're irrelevant. Teenage angst has paid off well, but now I'm tired and old.

If that shuttle launch clip was the first image MTV ever aired, it definitely was not Apollo 11. The short clip you showed (if it is the clip you speak of) was of the Space Shuttle. The vehicle Apollo 11 used was the Saturn V. Just saying, if you're going to get all scientific, at least get the mission designations/vehicles right.. I mean, you did the research on the guy on fire, but not on Apollo 11, or whatever mission the Space Shuttle was on in the clip.
