It would be good to have a mixture of things. Show them a lion (with sounds) but also show them birds that are singing and those sounds. You don't want to sound to aggresive, but sounding like a peaceful creature can make you look like an easy prey.

There is no such thing as closer or further from the origin of the big bang. Every point in the universe was contained in a single point at the big bang, so every point in the universe is exactly as old. From our vantage the universe appears to go further back in time as we look further away, but this is because of relativity; as you look deeper into space you are looking deeper into time because the light emitted from those distances has further to travel to get to us. From their vantage point looking at us, we would seem further back in time to them. But even if our part of the universe actually was older than them based on our location, then it would only be about 15 years difference, which is negligible when compared against the age of the universe itself (13.7 billion years). In such a long timeline, civilizations may have already evolved there and long ago burned out by now and we would never even know it. Or they may not evolve for another billion years yet. Deep space and deep time are difficult concepts to wrap your head around. It's entirely possible that our own planet Earth is made from the dust of another star system which already had an entire civilization of super intelligent beings which went extinct billions of years ago, before our sun was even formed. There's just no way of knowing.
