So can you help negotiate a deal for a used EV to get it to 25k and then assign the 4k government rebate to the dealer, thus netting the dealer 29k. I'm interested in some but the prices advertised are in the low to mid 30s so it seems doable. Is that possible?

Recently witnessed the purchase process for a Lucid Air. The guy ordered an available vehicle through the web site, placed deposit on credit card, provided drivers license and existing insurance info via their simple portal, then spoke with sales advisor on the phone to verify a few things, including any additional charges. There are NO charges beyond the destination charge and state tax/title fees.....zero. That's how it should be. The 'normal' car buying process is predatory, stress inducing and fundamentally unfair.

A few years back I bought a car. The salesman that wrote it up was going over the sale sheet with me expelling the taxes, dealer fees, and as he went down the sheet add some more tax’s in. So I ask him what that was for , he said the government has to get their taxes too. So i said but you all really took taxes out up there, and he looked kind of in barest , and looked at the sales manager, and they took it off the sheet. It was an additional 300 buck that I saved. There are obvious reasons why none of the salesman and even the sales manager did not give a OUT THE DOOR price on a car when you tell them that you are just in the research phase and will be shopping other dealers . I sold a lot of cars when other dealers gave out the door prices on a vehicle. Many times the customer paid more money on the car they bought from me then at the other dealer.

I visited a dealership in person and when I expressed interest in a car, I mentioned that I wanted my mechanic to inspect it before making a commitment. They cited insurance reasons for not allowing the car to leave the lot and traveling to an outside garage. I proposed that my mechanic could visit the dealership, but they rejected that idea too, for "insurance reasons" Consequently, I requested to inspect the underside of the car myself in their service area and asked for one of their mechanics to connect a code reader to check for any issues. They agreed to arrange this for the following day. However, the next morning, they called to inform me that the car had been sold. Despite this, I noticed that the car remained listed for sale on their website for the next week, then I stopped checking. Needless to say, I will never go back to that dealership.

I asked for 'an out the door price, itemized, if possible'. 2 dealerships honored my request with an itemized otd worksheet(msrp, add-ons or none, discount, tax, doc fee, etc). The third said 'we don't have that model and trim level on the lot, however we do have the next higher trim and it's only $50 more per month.' Guess which dealer I didn't follow up with? Really interesting episode. But sometimes the in-person experience is just as disappointing. We just purchased a new car, and went to the first dealership. We arrived mid morning, and walked around the lot. The cars were surprisingly unlocked, and we sat in several of them. No one came out to see us. After about 20 minutes of looking, and opening and closing the doors of several cars, we walked inside the dealership. Inside, several employees were standing around chatting with the receptionist. A couple walked right past us. No one said hello, in fact it was like we were invisible. After walking around the sales floor for a few minutes and being completely ignored, we walked out, got in my car and drove to the next dealership (same manufacturer). About an hour later, we purchased a new car out of the showroom. The sales experience was like night and day, and the salesperson that actually paid attention to us sold a car.

Last fall I dropped in at Findlay Toyota in Henderson NV while my grandson was at batting practice a mile or so down the road. I had to hunt a salesman to inquire about some 2023 Tacoma pickups that were on the lot. The base price for all of them was MSRP plus a $2,000.00 "adjustment" before all the other add-on charges. The used 2020, 2021, and 2022 Tacomas were listed at nearly new retail price. The salesman was polite but firm that they did not negotiate on price. He said that they have lots of people who will pay what they are asking and that almost all their vehicles are sold before they get to the dealership. I told him that was fine for them but I wouldn't be buying anything under those conditions. I hear that Toyota is still selling enough vehicles to avoid being customer friendly on price. I'm not interested in a 2024 Tacoma because they added turbochargers to the engine. My current truck has turbos. I never accelerate hard enough to kick in the turbos unless I'm in a situation where I need to pass or get out of the way in a hurry (I kick in the turbos only about once or twice a year), but one developed an oil leak around 60,000 miles. Turbos are just a repair problem waiting to happen. I'm considering a Nissan Frontier and we will see how it goes.

I emailed about a new vehicle, and they told me it was in transit and would let me know when it arrived. Salesman told me he would call me as soon as it arrives. I watched a few of your videos the next day and wrote down a lot of notes on how to negotiate car prices. I called him the next day. He sounded optimistic to talk to me, but as soon as I said I would like to get an out the door price, he said someone put down a payment to reserve it. Funny he didnt say that when I first called. The car is still listed on their web site a week later as in transit and for sale.

You guys are great!!! I've been watching your vids for half a year to get up to speed when dealing with the sales staff. Without your advice I probably would have been taken for a ride, not the pleasant kind but the other ride to the cleaners. That being said I don't want to spend hours listening to their BS and trying to navigate my way through it so I've decided it isn't worth the aggravation and will hold on to my present ride. Until they clean up their act (fat chance) they will loose out on my business. Buying a car through a dealership website or letting a proxy go through the process for a car sight unseen or no test drive is a fools errand cause you don't know what they might miss besides which the dealerships have no integrity. With my advancing age I don't trust myself to remember what all to be aware of, ask about or look out for from a sales staff that's dedicated to screwing the customer. It wouldn't look good to walk into a dealership with a hundred page tome devoted to the very topics you are warning us about (damn, I should have indexed this thing before coming in, I know it's in here somewhere...) As soon as the salesperson understands the purpose of the tome they would say "you don't need that, you can trust us"

I’m retired now, but in my career making the customer feel needed and listening to their wants and needs were paramount, and I wasn’t in customer service per se. whatever you’re seller, from advice, to houses, to cars, you need to make the customer aware they are appreciated. Without them, you’re just sitting there.

I've started doing this via email, and the auto-responders asking me to come in and test drive vs putting forward the total OTD estimate is ridiculous. The ones that add the most fees are the ones that string you along the longest. Historically, I've also been told they don't like quoting exact numbers as it then appears to be a written-up deal w/o a sale in their system.

In all fairness, a dealer is not going to give you an out-the-door price since the person calling may be a competing dealer. No, I don't like dealerships at all, but I can see there are certain things they won't do that are understandable.

@@robj2704 while I see that, when shopping used cars that don't have like models everywhere, price checking competition is less likely. Me, I'm simply looking into why the car is advertised at or below market, and it's usually because of high reconditioning fees, forced adds, and/or high doc fees. Some are more plainly disclosed somewhere than others. Other dealers at least reveal some of those if they have an express online shopping process that will show the price without having to give out personal contact info just to see "your price" (throw-away email addresses are great for that, BTW).

I had a similar experience in March. I was in the market for a new Chevy Silverado. I found 5 new MY23 on your website in a dealer a few hours away. I called and talked with a sales person. These units had been on the lot a LONG time. He actually sent me an "out the door" price a day or so later which I felt was high based on my research. I made several attempts to call and email the sales person with no response. In parallel, I was working with a local dealer sales person on pricing of a MY24 vehicle that had 1 additional option (adaptive CC). She was in constant communication with me and finally beat pricing on the MY23 unit. Ironically, on the day I was picking up my new truck I got a call from the first sales person. It was a little too late...he lost an easy sale. I knew what I wanted and I was ready to buy.

Had my local camper dealer lose my sale yesterday. Had a 22 still new on the lot. We get in, no one says hi. He comes up after a few minutes, nice enough guy but says oh yeah I’ll be in here go look at what you want. So we go, we like it but again, this is a 2022. We try to talk pricing, guy gets it down to $24k(only $2k off the sale price on a camper that’s about to be 3 years old) then says the OTD price is $30k after there prep fees and tax! So I said we were hoping to be closer to 24, 25 OTD, guy doesn’t even counter offer. Just says no. Doesn’t get our info, so we walked. This was the only salesman on the floor, and for the 2 hours we were there, no one else walked in. Customer service was lost during Covid.

Regarding talking to dealer principal. I recently made an “appointment” for service at an American Auto dealership. On the appointment day I arrived at the service desk. I was told, OK, we’ll give you a ride home. I was confused - I thought they were going to service my car. No, l was told I must leave the car at the dealership for at least 10 days before they could get to it.!!!!! This was their policy - no exceptions!!!! I went to the sales manager - Why would I buy a car from a dealership with this service department? The sales manager called over the service manager. The service manager said he emphasized with my situation, but nothing he could do to improve the situation. Of course they could RENT me a car while my car was waiting for service. 😬

Had the same exact issue with a Orlando Mazda dealer the last 2 days. They have been bugging me to come in and get my free oil change. So i call the service number on there website. Someone answers and says "hold please" then i get the music and nobody ever picks up. This went on for 2 days. I finally e-mailed the owner. He gets back to me while he is on vacation and tells me that is "unacceptable". His service manager called me the next morning at 7:30a to schedule. I spent a lot of money and time at this dealership and stupid me, expected better than that.

I used to sell new and used cars about 20 years ago (so this is when car buying online was barely coming out). Despite the considerable hold music and how that ended (which I am surprised), I am not surprised. We used to call people who were in the "research" state "tire kickers" and didn't bother to waste much time with them (or we were taught that way). It was an honor on our bi-weekly meeting to give numbers to our board to see who was meeting quota. "Tire kickers" don't make quota, sales does. Hence why we had to use tricks to manipulate customers to speed up their buying decision.

Just out of curiosity. If you talked to 10 tire kickers, how many would turn into buyers.?
@WWS78363
@WWS78363 Месяц назад
@@user-ry3xp7rv8m Honestly, it depended on the sales person. During the interview, I took a DISC test to see what kind of a personality I was. I was considered a High S which the sales manager saw that as a plus because I would empathize with the car buyer better than those who were D personality which are the usual salesman types (again, what I was told). But secondly and closer to answering your question, that really depended on who the sales manager was. There were 2 sales managers that I averaged 7.75+/10 vehicles I could sell under (I showed off the car but the manager did the numbers). And things were ok. Toward the end of my time there new managers showed up who were only interested in their commissions and not selling cars. I went from 7.5 to maybe 2/10 because if the commission wasn't enough, they were create ridiculous numbers to turn away the customer, making my job harder. Again, I wanted to sell cars to sell cars with a positive car buying experience. These guys were only interested in commissions, which is not my personality. Hence why in my car buying experience, there's been a bit of a clash of mindsets. Anyway, that was what it was then.

My daughter who lives in Australia was in the need of a new car approximately 10 years ago. I called up the local Honda dealership there and I explained to the gentleman that I was calling from the United States and I wish to purchase a car for my daughter and she'd be picking it up. I needed to do this transaction over the phone. The first salesman immediately hung up the phone. I guess he thought it was a prank. I called back approximately 5 minutes later and I asked if there was anyone there that wanted to sell a new CRV over the phone because the pryor salesman hung up on me. Well, after a little bit of negotiation and some financial work I got the deal done. It was actually easier than buying a car here in the United States with me sitting in right in front of the salesman.
