Even the World War II riots are 80 years old. Today 95 percent of Blacks killed in America are killed by other Black people which was not the case in the bad old days of segregation. You know how you can watch a movie that's super violent and be desensitized to it but recalling actual historical events makes you uncomfortable and feel a lot of emotions.
Maybe because in your mind you know the movie is not real and know matter what you see no one was actually harmed - the people continue living. Actual historical events involve real people who experienced real things that were sanctioned by the town/city officials and the gov't.

I had a history teacher that played the Rosewood movie. He was fired because of this. I'll never forget he put his job on the line to show us the truth. I teach mine the raw uncut version. I need them to know how bad it really was. But I also teach them about world history as well. I don't want to focus too much on the bad. They need to know how amazing they are and that we come from Kings and Queens. But these folks don't want us to have nothing. Yet want us to spend our money on their business. It's narcist and racism.

I am a HS Principal and i teach a class in conjunction with UMKC called what's race got to do with it. Students research their own questions about society and we have learned a great deal together. A lot of this i learned with them. I am humbled at the power they have as teens through knowledge

I’m originally from the Caribbean and I remember growing up back home we had to learn Caribbean history, American history, and World history, I also know many of us black people in the Caribbean came by way our black ancestors by the Atlantic Slave Trade where they brought black slaves to the islands. Up to this day my island have this historical market place where the locals go to buy fresh produce but I learned it’s where the white people use to sell my ancestors like they were products before we were purchased by the United States my island was owned by Denmark.
It's NOT being told because Black people are waiting to use ANYTHING or ANY reason NOT to progress and be defiant, as usual. We are waiting to make all types of excuses. Our past history shows how resilient we are when we stand together with others (Black or non-Black) for justice for all. We need to learn from our past so that it will never be repeated. We need to learn about the good, bad and the ugly. Black history is not simply about the violence against us. Many of our children don’t know about our famous inventors, politicians, doctors, lawyers, business men and women, prosperous towns, churches, soldiers, etc. when I was in school, we had little or no classes on Black history. I became acquainted with our history because one of my parents insisted on having her child complete all of his biographical reports on famous Blacks. The student was the only person to write about famous Blacks. He wrote about a lot of people I never knew. Watching your video does not make me more hateful, but shows me how strong and rich our people were and still are! Thank you for this video.

Coming from a place where opportunities were limited, I am always captivated by the stories of resilience and courage displayed by black Americans. I recognize the immense sacrifices they endured in their pursuit of freedom & equality.

I'm from East St. Louis. And the city has always been a segregated city with deeply rooted systematic and systemic racism. But they never taught us about it in school. My grandparents are still alive in their eighties and they taught us about topics that the local school district was too afraid to talk about.

I came across a ten set of books called The Makers of America. These books spoke of early American History as to how the country came to be. What caught my attention was how the person who wrote that particular story described how black people were systematically eradicated from Europe and how the same feat could be accomplished in the United States. When you have people trying to control what is taught in schools as far as History is concerned you will never know the truth and if you did what can you hope to do about it?

We always taught our children about black history. I had a foster mother that had a white father and Black mother My mother taught us our black History!
Black History should be taught by grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles, and teach our kids the real history of Black people by asking questions and teaching them to seek the truth. I first noticed that black history was being pushed out of the schools. I was told of real family history by my grandparents and my parents as well as many aunts and uncles and other elders. Many of our young people have no clue of what the history books failed to do because they started changing the history books. I grew up in East St.Louis, Illinois and it was still plenty of racism going on. In Belleville, Il the police would lock gates as soon as the sun was going down, and black people had to go out of the way to where they wanted to go. When returned home from overseas and back to the States, Belleville was still locking the gate. Now even at 60 years old and I still remember it.

Yeah the massacre in St Louis still bothers the s*** out of me. And it's not the only time we have been very abusive to our black population. I've lived in St Louis Missouri my entire life and there are three incidences that I know of where we either systematically killed black people or systematically attempted to kill their children
I honestly don't think we tried to fight back with all our strength at these times. We're naturally a peaceful and loving people. We are the people of YAHWEH.

The problem wasn't the lack of weapons, you could shot 6 arrows by the time there was 2 shots fired, it was tribalism, different tribes making deals with them to go against other tribes, some cases traders in the tribes. They fear us, due to their guilt and shame. The HISTORY is for all of us not just Black people. It is vital education to learn the real reasons people are kept out of prosperirlty. The truth must still prevail, as we have a right to know HOW we got to NOW.

What they taught in schools about black history is nothing. If you want your kids to know about our history, teach them yourselves. Form a community/church day where our history is taught.
The Move tragedy I remember watching this as it happened, the whole block went up and then the shabby way they treated the people whose homes they destroyed was ridiculous. I don't know if to this day whether these people's homes were ever repaired

I'm 75 years old and I took Black American history and Black Political Science in college back in the early 70s by Black professors and I never heard about any of this until after 2015. I've read most of the works by Richard Wright and his short stories as well as novels and James Baldwin and many other so I did know about the systemic racism in America that was ever pervasive in "the land of the free and home of the brave" (sarcasm). The millennials of color are not going for this if they would only stop killing one another, doing what White America is expecting them to do. I know one thing though, if the insurrection of January 6, 2021 were people of color the outcome would've been nothing short of a bloodbath. Even Biden suggested that.
I remember about 10 years ago I asked my now late brother in law a question about Black History he looked at me and asked "why do you want to talk about something that depressing? He isn't alone it is amazing how many blacks just don't want to read and research our black history. It is really sad because now there is a rising voice white voice in America that wants to erase African American history There still is a wealth of books articles and videos still available for us all. We seem to have forgotten about the times when very little was mentioned about our history in standard white American history books. It was the black University students that fought for black studies to be included in college curriculum in the 1960's. We should always remember the men women and children of the past thar paved the way for us to have Never forget them keep their memories alive by taking time to read about our historical journey in America the past 400 years. And unite and don't let White America remove our history from the public schools and Universities.
I have come to the conclusion that those individuals are afraid of having the disucssion and where it's painful for us all they cannot bare to have the discussion and therefore dimissing it all together. It's already done. They agreed, by vote, to remove the civil rights movement and slavery from the national scholastic k-12 grade curriculum at the Nation Scholastic Board of Curriculum conference in Houston Texas 2012.
@@vallium4940 So it is up to us to collect as much as possible black history books through book companies . Many years ago I collected quite a few used black history books through companies that specialized selling used texts. The majority of them were in good condition. Classics like " Before The Mayflower" and From Slavery to Freedom" Slave Narratives etc. It is up to us now each individual and each family to preserve our history. The younger black generation has been lulled into a unrealistic point of view that makes them think racism is dying in America they enjoy opportunities in jobs and housing their great grandparents never enjoyed. We had our first African American president all this is only a false appearance of the of the real problem of racism. It's alive very alive it got push in a corner because whites can't practice in America what they did before the signing of the Civil rights bill. They know they can be handled by the justice system in the present day. Don't think America is a pleasant all racially all accepting nation in 2023 You probably have heard about Sundown towns that existed once the towns and villages across America who hung out signs on their towns border warning blacks who were traveling through not to be in their city when the Sun went down. Those places one by one were banned by their states governments to remove their "black be by gone by sunset signs" back in the 1970's. They removed the signs but the government couldn't remove the anti black attitudes I was told by a white lady back in 2014 that her son who lived near ANNA Illinois a place that hung out Sundown town signs in past still practiced discrimination towards blacks that wandered through they pulled out all stops by a group of white men approaching a black utility worker and warned him not to be in ANNA when night came. Yes this happened in the early 21st century and not 60 years ago during Jim Crow. My daughter is warned by her girlfriend she goes to visit in Southern Indiana each summer to not stop and get gas in the small all white towns just stop in the bigger cities for gas and rest because the whites in the small towns make it very obvious they hate blacks. What is wrong with us in 21st century racism is very alive and whites are stepping out of shadows and going after our history in America Why remove it ? it happened and you can't destroy the reality of what your ancestors did And we as blacks should do all we can to preserve that reality of our past.
