In today's video, we collect the straw bales from Letterbox field and bring them back to the farm to be used as bedding and feeding for the Redpoll cattle. The straw is made from the barley stalks from the harvest back in the summer months. We store the bales on the sides of the fields over autumn until we need to use them in winter. Once brought back to the farm we will go through a trailer load of bales every week so it's an important job! The shed at the moment has been transformed ready for lambing the sheep in March, and this is because lambing the sheep indoors is hopefully going to be a much better experience for the sheep and for us lambing them on the farm because the shed provides shelter from the wind and cover from the rain.
