I whole heartedly believe that this will always be a challenge we face whether at home or away but I would rather experience what the world has to offer than to sit in our four little walls depriving ourselves of life… it can be overwhelming, discouraging and exhausting but there was good being around family and just being in a different space of earth.. despite what we wanted to show you today, I hope this helps the next family feel seen and heard, because you are not alone.

Thanks for sharing. I've been a caretaker for a a autistic child who's now 17, for a while, and now I have an autistic granddaughter. It's definitely challenging, but it does become easier over time. Continue to travel, and it will become familier to Miko. Please don't get discourage. Just think how exhausting it for all of you with every milestone she goes through. Teaching her new things, ect. Traveling will become familiar. Try more short trips that aren't so far away from home, like more road trips and staying in an Airbnb to get her familiarized with staying away fron home. Also, remember Miko wasn't feeling well, which made the travel experience differently, than opposed to her and everyone else feeling well. Now you know, you have to check the air quality and do lots more research before traveling, as well as times of the year. I normally do night flights where it's a little less busier, and less stressful for the kids and I.

It does not seem so. Mikko has been taking ALL the attention since her diagnosis. The other kids put their needs to the side and exist in Mikko's shadow. Too bad the twins father is not in their life. So at least they would feel special with their dad's side of the family. At least they have each other because mom does not care about them like she does Mikko. And while this is just a snippet of their lives that we are shown this is what they show.
@cjackson8826
@cjackson8826 Месяц назад
@@queennanna5595We do not see their household 24/7 so what we see is not what happens 24/7. We see Mikko on camera because this is about what they go through with an autistic child. They are amazing parents to Mikko and I'm sure that same live is shown to them as well. You can't judge them by videos.
@ayanahardy6922
@ayanahardy6922 Месяц назад
Yes Mikko is autistic and she need a lot of attention but their is no doubt that the mother love her other kids or give them attention. Some people just assume just based off the videos but don’t know what goes on in the home off camera.
@apriladams5203
@apriladams5203 Месяц назад
@@queennanna5595 I'm guessing you don't have or know children on the spectrum. Mikko hasn't been taking all the attention. She NEEDS more help than the twins. An autistic child is a 24/7/365 responsibility. Some are flight risks. Some parents have to put locks on their refrigerator to keep their child from cramming so much food in their mouths they can choke themselves. Some love water so much that you have to hold onto them because they don't realize they can drown. The melt downs in stores, restaurants even parks. You are only seeing a glimpse into Mikko and her family's life. It's the hardest yet most rewarding thing to be blessed with a special child.

Gosh that just sounds exhausting. What kind of things would help people when traveling with an autistic child? Is there something hotels can do to help accommodate autistic kids? You are such a good Mother. When Mikko was upset that her brothers had something and she wanted it, you took the time to teach her she had to wait. I think a lot of parents would just give it to her to stop the melt down. But there you are, with everyone not feeling good, and everything else you've dealt with, taking the time to teach her she has to wait. And in the middle of her meltdown, making sure your son felt heard and cared about with his bloody nose. I am in awe of your patience and kindness Precious❤

I think first yall as parents need 2 take a deep breath & relax!! Somethings are okay like Mikko not eating much. That's normal 4 any kid her age, some kids will go all day with nothing. I promise she's be okay & gon eat when she's ready!! Then the other kids say nothing!! Things are gonna be okay, dont over think the small stuff.. You guys are A-MAZ-ING!! Seriously, you guys are SO much better than I could ever be! I don't even try to take my two autistic grandkids to Denny's. When baby boy was younger, we took him to a truck fest because he loves trucks. The closer we got to the crowd and trucks, the more agitated he became. And when they blew their horns, we had to hightail it back to the car because he started screaming while other kids there were cheering. Vegas is a dry heat oven - I hate it! Giving you guys a ton of credit plus it is nice to visit family. You're going to need a vacation from your vacation! Hope Chris got over the food poisoning quickly. Oh, and the kids are sprouting!

Not if the child has ARFID, which is more common in autistic people. It doesn't matter how hungry we are, if the food is not safe, we won't eat it
@Just-Princess
@Just-Princess Месяц назад
@LornaBaker-cw7qx ARFID isn't usually due to categorising foods in terms of being "safe" or not. That is more common in other eating disorders like anorexia-nervosa or bulimia-nervosa. For kids who are neurodivergent and also have arfid, they tend to avoid certain foods due to a sensory reason like texture/smell, having a genuine lack of interest in eating, or if the food/meals are not items that they regularly eat as part of their routine. Occasionally, if they are afraid that food will cause them to be sick or choke (or really experience anything negative) they will also avoid it. For instance, maybe they experienced something negative happening previously whilst or after eating (choking and vomiting are the most common but it could be anything). Instead of viewing it as an anomaly or due to another factor, they begin to associate all/most foods with choking or throwing up etc. As a result, they start to restrict their intake significantly or avoid food altogether. This happens because cognitively they struggle with reasoning skills. This is a challenge for most young children because their frontal lobe is still in the early phase of development. However, it is even harder for many kids on the autism spectrum, especially if they already are delayed developmentally (e.g not reaching milestones in a time period that is comparable to their peers). Safe foods are usually associated with AN, BN or OSFED because those eating disorders are driven by body image concerns. So you often see people developing rules (like "safe" foods) to help them maintain the eating disorder. Kids (and adults) with arfid don't have cognitions (aka thoughts) like that around body shape/weight. So they don't develop rules about their oral intake that people with other ED's use to help provide them with (the perception of) control which helps to maintain their disordered eating behaviors.

Coming from someone who has a younger sibling with autism, it is hard to accept when most of the attention goes to the autistic sibling. But, oftentimes, it is the parents job to at least give some love to the children. The parent needs to explain why this is happening, or if the kid is too young, dumb it down and help them understand. When my sister was born, it was hard to accept that she needed more attention. She was non verbal and had sensory issues, but I had my mother to help me through it.

Hi, you guys are doing an awesome job. Mikko is just so adorable and I can relate all too well with the challenges you guys have to face. I just want you to know that patience is virtue and please don't get discouraged. I live in Chicago and have a 14 year old granddaughter who is autistic and lives in Texas. It took us 4 attempts to get her comfortable enough to visit with her nanna and grandpa. The first three attempts she would have very bad meltdowns to the point where her mom had to come all the way back to Chicago to get her. Well, I want you to know we kept trying because my daughter seriously needed a break. When I tell you God is so good, this is our fourth attempt and she is now visiting with us for the whole summer. It's been two whole months with absolutely no meltdowns and she has been enjoying the beach, restaurants, family gatherings etc. I am so elated that my grandbaby now feels comfortable enough to visit with us for an extended period of time. I'm going to miss her terribly when she goes back to Texas in 2 weeks but I am just so glad that God answered my prayers!!! Don't give up on taking her out of her comfort zone. I know it's hard but it took us years to to get there. I love your family and will be keeping Mikko in my prayers! Stay strong and continue being the wonderful parents you are!

I have 3 other grandboys. We just came back from his 7th trip to Vegas. He loves to travel. Lots of immersion, therapy and experiences. It is a lot, tiring, but rewarding at the end of the day. He has begun using his headphones for comfort. Travel is challenging with children in general. He now travels better than my other grandsons. I think it's because people with autism don't adapt well to change to their environment because they like things when they stay the same and also because there would be a lot of sensory involvement with different things to look at and different things to hear and too much at once is too upsetting and the reason why I know all of this is because that kind of thing affects me also even though I am not autistic but I am extremely sensitive and I react very badly to change and to too much noise and to too much going on in the environment such as colors and sensory things and I get sick and uncomfortable and I have to leave that particular environment in order to be able to breathe better. Like being in a mall is too much for me sometimes and I have to leave and be in an environment where there is no noise and no colors in order to be able to feel more myself. So I can totally relate when people have problems with change and new environments and things that are uncomfortable

Hi precious, I'm just making this comment to you but I know Chris and everyone else was affected as well hearing you talk about the buses and the shuttles I could never ever ever even do that. You are the most incredible human being I've ever seen. I struggle a lot with COMPLEX PTSD and I also have very severe depression and I struggle with chronic illnesses which leave me pretty much disabled. When I was listening to you and watching you with Mikko I almost had to turn off the video. It is just so overwhelming what you go through. And of course I hope you know that having autism is not a curse it's not you know some horrible moral problem anything like that. However it is so challenging for you to deal with your beautiful daughter who cannot speak to you and tell you what is going on with her. All I know is watching you with your daughter makes me cry because I cannot believe how much you love your children and the highlight obviously of these videos is Mikko. I watched in disbelief literally I cannot comprehend how you do it I did not have parents who gave a crap about me at all I was raised with so much abuse and trauma to watch you being so absolutely patient and selfless and committed to her comfort and committed to understanding what to do is beyond anything I can even comprehend. When you said at the end I hope you enjoyed the video I was thinking how could anybody enjoy this video? It was so obviously challenging beyond challenging and just to go on a so-called vacation is so incredibly difficult. I'm with you I would stay home and never put yourself through that or any of your kids through that or your husband through that It was just unbelievable to me It was so painful to watch to be honest It was very painful. To me precious you are a hero a true and literal hero. You always amaze me but this one took the cake. I know you have your own struggles as well so just seeing all this coming together is just too much too overwhelming way too overwhelming. I just send you all the blessings in the world May you have some of those blessings to help keep you cared for and comfortable. Bless your entire family and bless you for being a mother that should be getting awards whatever those awards are would be whatever you wanted because you deserve it.

A couple things that might help - we travel with a small, carryon suitcase of my son’s favorite shelf-stable snacks (ex. fruit pouches, pop tarts, cheese its, etc.) so that we always have some stuff with us that he’ll eat. Usually if there is something available that he will eat when we go out & travel, he is more likely to eat stuff that’s “new” or made a different way at a restaurant, like sausage that is in a patty instead of links or a different flavor of yogurt. As a Vegas local, I can say that people get headaches and nosebleeds a lot when they come here because it is so incredibly dry. We have no humidity here at all, and coming from Texas it would be a shock to your systems & often folx don’t up their water intake to counteract the extra dryness. Next visit, I recommend doubling your fluid intake, using those saline nasal sprays to keep them from drying & bleeding, and asking if the rental house has humidifiers - they really help!

You all deserve a nice vacation but in all honesty, sometimes the best vacations are 'staycations' where you stay home but just do some nice and different things near home. I'll be praying for your family.

Real talk I don't have an autistic individual in the home, but vacations, traveling is not fun for me. It's hard work. The hustle and bustle of packing, flights, lodging. Not fun. It's like hurry up to get there, to then hurry up and relax, to then hurry up and leave to be left with bags and bags of dirty clothes needing washed, dried and put back away. It usually stays dirty for a while. Id rather have a stay-cation and we visit all the local summer fun options. Home has all the amenities I could ever ask for. Then go back to my job rested.

Have you guys ever thought that you coddled her too much? Especially With her child development breakthroughs, she’s speaking more, etc. etc. sometimes she’s just gonna have to feel it🤷🏾‍♀️flipping out because she doesn’t get what she wants, having all this options for food… she will get older and we pray she’s gonna be more independent, but what do I know at the end of the day? @queennanna5595 I agree. Why allow Mikko to dictate whether the fam ever goes on vacation or not? It's like the twins aren't taken into consideration whatsoever. Also, there's a huge difference between a meltdown and tantrum. Mikko was throwing a tantrum and wanted attention (hence whining not crying) nothing more. She still babys Mikko when she needs to allow her to begin to spread her wings a bit 😊

My grandson stuffs his mouth again at 3 1/2, he had stopped for a long time. His therapist told me yesterday as a matter of fact that she had just left an ABA center that told her that the reason autistic children stuff their mouth, especially when it’s something that they really enjoy is because they don’t have enough tastebuds sensors working, something to that effect so they stuff their mouth to get that flavoring that They want. So I was like OK that makes sense because he does do that.

Please dont abandon vacationing. You need to Relax and You"ll Find it. Next time the air will not affect you Chris will not get sick and You'll be more ready and prepared for what may happen, and You did Great JOB despite the miss haps. Always ALWAYS travel with Activated Charcoal capsules. Its good for a lot of things like food poisoning. Read up on it. If Mikko does not eat do not worry about it because she will when she gets hungry. (she was sure eatin them blueberrys Lol) Let Mikko help her brother if he has a nose bleed by allowing her to hold the cold cloth to his forehead or show her how to pinch the bridge of his nose to stop the bleeding while he sits with his head back. It seems she wants to be involved and express her concern for him. she is very brilliant. It seems she does not want all the attention always on her. You are a Beautiful Family. I Pray You will see fit to Give Your Marriage a chance somewhere down the Road. Molars coming in can be so painful I didn’t know molar teething could be so painful. The dentist said for some kids it’s no big deal and they don’t feel it and with others it’s very painful and much like infant teething. And unfortunately eating is very difficult and there is lots of drooling especially at night. I hope she feels better now! Sending you blessings from our family to yours. 💗💗💗💗💗
