I am an adult with social anxiety. It is dibilitating. I have young children and it effects them leading me to be depressed for being a bad mom for not being able to take them a lot of places. You two are wonderful parents- Sending love to you all❤

She fell and bumped her knee like every other three year old. Some times children, even children with autism get a scrape. No biggie, wipe it off and move on. I’m sure Mikko will get distracted or find interest in something else within the next few minutes. Most children also have social anxiety. She needs to be around other children, maybe other children with autism. They will learn and teach each other. Seems she’s incredibly isolated at home and only around family.

Being in a school program that provides specialized services to help her. I work with kids like Mikko and the daily practice & exposure in programs for students like her does help them. You are all doing a great job at home; however allowing professionals to play a bigger role in her life will help her & also you all as a family with outings etc.

As a pre-k teacher I have students with IEP's and their therapists come to the school and work with them, having great success. Whether they are doing speech, cognitive, behavioral, physical.. they are wonderful at their job and the children look forward to their therapy days. Granted, it doesn't always start out so smooth but with time and routine they become more open and receptive. I've seen students go from having full blown meltdowns during drop off at the beginning of the year to skipping in excited to see their friends. I've had some refuse to hold a pencil to being able to write their name in the span of a few months. And like you said, I've also seen them regress for no apparent reason. I'm not sure if you are utilizing any sort of preschool environment but I do encourage it. It's an individual choice that takes just as much effort on the parents as it does the child and I know how hard and exhausting it can be. Some days my parents look just drained from the night before or even a rough morning they have had with their little ones. If you can find a good school with trained, educated, and compassionate teachers and therapists.. it can be such a positive experience. And it can be a powerful tool to have in your toolbelt. I wish Mikko and you nothing but love and success. Keep your chin up, Mama! You got this, just remember to be kind with yourself :)

Mikko could really benefit from some professional services at this point. Early intervention is key with autistic children to ensure better outcomes. It could help her with speech development, address developmental delays, aid in socialization, and better prepare her for the school setting and for life outside of the confines of the home with her family.

I have a 3 and a 1/2-year-old little girl with level 3 autism AD.H.D she's non verbal, she has Narrow eating habits and sensory processing disorder all the Things that come with autism. Just like you. I wanted to help her on my own and it got to a point where I realized. I can know a little bit about a lot of things but professionals know a lot about one thing and so I had to get outside help. Trust me, trust me, not the route I wanted to take. I ended up taking her to the public school district and got her an got her IEP with autism on it. a 1 on 1 a that's with her through her day and she gets 5 therapies at school now and it's helping. I have 100% access to her and to the people with her and her 1 on 1 aid Is the same special education teacher everyday. I think you're doing great and don't worry. It will work out because it has too!!!!!

I think of Mikko social anxiety like an immune system response. The more exposure the system gets to "germs" in her case "people" the easier it will be to deal with the next time she encounters the same situation. Growth occurs outside of the comfort zone. It is clear that she sees anyone outside of family as scary but eventually when she gets the clearance for therapy she'll need to learn how to deal with other people in her safe place. Rather than avoid the social interaction entirely, make accommodations. Perhaps wearing her headphones or bringing something she loves from home, maybe even the blow up pool. You can also play the sounds of "outside" noises while at home so she gets accustomed to it. Like the sound of people chattering, birds, cars, dogs barking etc

My now 6 year old os stage three autistic, honestly when he was younger i didnt understand him,but i do remember him having anxiety when going to play with others, i just continue to socialize him and show him its okay and allow him to progress at his speed. Now at six he does a lot better, but still only likes to interact with children he knows or are similar in behaviors of you get my drift. Mikko will get it, stay strong Precious you got this. A little push is okay.

Mikko reminds me a lot of my daughter she’s the same age and level 2 autistic. My daughter recently has been going to ABA after being home with since she was born (not recommending ABA if not for your family) buuut there’s simply some experiences you’re not going to be able to give Mikko and she could really benefit from being in a group around other kids her age at her level outside of her safe space and safe people. Giving her the opportunity to see how other kids like her may navigate can help her in her own way 💛 send yall lots of love

I absolutely love your channel and Mikko is the cutest thing ever. If I could suggest that as someone with social anxiety maybe you could try putting her into a day camp or somewhere with professional care to help her become more comfortable with the outside environment. I’ve heard sometimes with a stranger it’s difficult but more effective than parents because children know their patterns and know how to regulate themselves around them. It’s just a thought but I hope you guys continue to thrive for the future ❤️

I have social anxiety. I can kind of relate to Mikko. My social anxiety is related to severe anxiety I’ve had from a young age. I’m not autistic but I can relate with the social anxiety part.

Mama, have you looked into, or are you interested in getting Mikko into ABA therapy? If so, it could be such a help for her and for your family as a whole. Mikko can really benefit from being around other kids her age on a daily basis (school) and from working with professionals to address your concerns (ABA, speech, and OT). Keeping her secluded within the family, and you trying to tackle all of her needs alone will be more of an up hill battle than not.❤

She needs professional help. I know you love her so much and want to protect her but you have her living in a bubble. I have a little cousin that has autism like Miko but he goes to a special school for children with autism. He is nonverbal also. He has been around children in his school, so he knows how to be sociable. He plays with kids. Sometimes he may have a melt down but not often. The school has helped him a lot. I know it has to be hard as a parent to see your child go through moments like this. I pray you and your husband will fine some way to help Miko through this with success.

What helped my son who has the same issues was incorporating professional help in addition to what we parents were doing, ie, We put him in school which was the best decision ever. He can now go with us in public places with no issues. He's 5.

Honestly I have a cousin who’s like Mikko they’re both non-verbal and autistic. Wish we could meet up to see how they’ll interact with each other.

This is so sad because the parents are not always going to be with her!

I don’t think social anxiety is regression. On the contrary, it’s progression in being more aware of our surroundings, of other people’s thoughts and looking at us, of being judged, the possibility of being touched or talked to, etc. It’s very normal for social anxiety to progressively get worse from toddlerhood through puberty.

I should add my daughter could not cope in mainstream public school and is now at a private school which specialises in helping verbal children with dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, Dyspraxia, ASD and many other issues. It is an ecosystem supported by occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, it also has an educational psychologist and the PE teacher who understand what to do with these children with different needs. Also their teachers and all the other professionals are teaching each other. most of the staff are all on permanent contracts so it keeps the amount of staff leaving to a minimum. It’s very important for these children be able to be able to bond properly with their teachers and for them to be a constant in their lives. We realised we are very blessed to be able to afford this. it should be the norm though in all governments’s school provision. It is much cheaper to help these children when they are young so that they can become contributing members of society.

You guys are doing amazing with Mikko. I encourage you guys to get professional help as well. It’s a process but she’ll adapt. In some videos I feel like she’s playing on you momma. 😅 these babies are super intelligent. Let go and let the professionals help. I know she loves her daughter but there's professionals out there that can assist the mother and show her different ways of dealing or overcoming the situations. My little cousin couldn't talk . We got him professional help and he was talking in 2months😁🤴🏽🙏🏽✌🏽

Its ok mama. This too shall pass my Quentin used to be the same way to the point I would go home & cry. Used to be so bad I couldn't even work nor take him anywhere. Now at the age of 12 gets his needed services,he is in school, loves his teacher, his peers, nature, the zoo, anything vintage(he picks out some of my clothes),loves music, helps me prep dinner, clean, feed the pets & his favorite store is Target. Every time we go he drags me to the book section. It was tough but his bright eyes & smile were well worth it. Mikko will get there, much love from the Sunshine State 💛 ❤

Autistic or not, this may sound counter intuitive, but sometimes the best thing for the kid is being AWAY from their parent for a bit & socialized with people trained to handle their needs. Kids respond to environments differently in the absence of the parents. Parents are needed but sometimes in these stages of development your presence is actually a hindrance to her. It’s not personal it’s developmental.

Really think she should have some help outside the home. With mom it’s so easy for her to give in and let her have her way. Just think mom need to see if she would be stronger w/o mom being there and letting her give up.

I think Mikko is ready to go to school. She reminds me of my Goddaughter she didn't talk either. I encourage her grandmother to put her in school, and it was like magic she started to talked. She had a lot to say. She only went 2hrs a day M-F. I think she could benefit her and your fam. She is ready Mikko is smart.

My son is going through the same thing right now, just before he turned 3years old he got triggered at a Christmas party, and all of a sudden started melting down and ever since then he doesn’t wanna leave the house doesn’t want to be friends doesn’t wanna see teachers nothing and then the stage went away after just every day trying to reinforce and doing it all over and over again until he was comfortable enough to leave a house again, but then recently, it triggered again from my birthday party. So I’m guessing it’s gonna be an ongoing thing, but the thing that I did realize is every time this happened he had a huge developmental development., he can brush his teeth by himself. He’s putting on his own shoes. He’s looking at us way more and connecting to his peers. He’s hugging his teachers. Like a whole new child.😮

The cutest is big brother being right there along her way. The melt in my heart was the end once she seen it didn’t hurt then her hugging you and saying thank you while tapping your back. Ugh melted my heart 😢🥰

Hi Precious…I experienced this with my toddler, he’s the same age as Mikko. What I did was slowly start to take him around people more often, it’s a slow process but I feel like she will eventually open up. My son cried a lot initially but now he’s used to it. He was at the point where he would cry and run away when we had visitors at the door but now none of that. He struggles every now and then a tiny bit but for the most part he’s more comfortable. I see a huge change. I have faith that she will be fine. 😊

Her dad is the BOMB, he knows exactly what she needs.

When my son was four and he became anxious around others I would bring his favorite toy or manipulative for stimming that he used at home. People would look at him strange sometimes but it helped and gradually he became more comfortable.

You are an awesome family! I ❤ how compassionate you are with your daughter and son and how you work together as a family. I understand the struggles that you deal with hour by hour because I am on the spectrum myself (high functioning) and deal with social anxiety daily. Please take care of yourself, give yourself approval for some down time. If relatives or understanding friends offer to be with your daughter even for an hour while you nap, take them up on the offer without feeling guilty! And please don't feel guilty if you don't post regularly. Surely, anyone drawn to your channel must realize that posting is difficult while caring for your family under these circumstances. Do you think it would help to send her to a daycare program for a couple of hours? One appropriate for autistic children, of course. Perhaps being around other kids would help? IDK. You're doing a wonderful job. 😘

Miko and my son are the exact same age- 4 in July. We went through this high social anxiety at the playground and are coming out the other side now. He still has high anxiety, but has stopped avoiding other children, or telling them “you go away!” which was a fun stage 🤦‍♀️ We did just what you are doing- gentle, scaffolded, continued exposure to the playground and other kids without any pressure. The goal was for him to have a positive experience and learn he is safe- nothing more. Keep going. The hurt knee is a bummer but you can’t control that ~ go again tomorrow. Your son’s support for his sister is beautiful to see. What a sweet child he is. ❤

Her brother is sooooo sweet. My heart goes out to them because I know it’s ruff. I also have a non verbal 3 year old granddaughter but she totally opposite of Mikko. She plays with other kids. And she goes to tumbling every Wednesday. She does everything but is just nonverbal. Watching your videos also keeps me aware of what could happen. I put her in daycare so she could get use to being around other people without have fits. It actually works. We are now trying to get her to go poop on the pot . We have the #1 on pot down to a science now but we working together to get her not to be scared of the big pot as well. This is not easy and you have to have a lot of patience with your kids and grandkids with autism. I appreciate you sharing and telling your truth. I am so proud of you for sharing your experiences so that others can learn from you! That takes a tremendous amount of courage. TREMENDOUS! I have a high functioning autistic son who is now grown. I felt so ill-equipped to parent him. I had no training and little understanding of autism. As my son grew, I grew with him. One of his older sisters is now a behavioral therapist who works almost exclusively with non-verbal autistic children as young as 2 years old. Her love of her brother motivated her to find ways to help children with similar problems. As she went through college and began working in this field, she continually said, "Mom, these methods would have helped my brother so much, but they were not available when he was little." I sincerely hope and pray that you and your family can find the appropriate help for your daughter so that her anxiety is reduced and so that she will have ways to communicate her wants and needs. You are doing an amazing job with her! I know it's hard, but never give up on your precious little girl!

I do get wanting to write down your thoughts beforehand to make sure you get it all out, but what I also like is to see people communicate in a way that is natural to them and I’m referring to the part where you mention how “RU-vid viewers” want people to communicate in their videos. I want to see you communicate in the way that is most authentic to YOU ❤ authenticity is what draws me in. I think everyone needs to be more authentic in their daily lives and online if they are online. We are all unique and different. We do not fit into molds. I want everyone to enjoy life to the fullest by feeling comfortable being who they are. “People are desperately seeking realness.”

Hi! I'm 31 autistic woman. I'm newly able to care for myself (last 2 years) Now, I bet yall didnt know late diagnosis can kill. It didnt, but with the exception of my loving family who are my only reason for being able to say I made it...its big scary feelings until you're loved genuinely and can open up. She'll open up. May it be that it does not take until 31. Life is precious. You're doing everything right the way I wish I had been raised. You are the light....(to the parents)❤❤❤❤

Hello. I didn't want to comment and this might be a mouthful, but my son is a lot like Mikko. He will be 4 yrs in June. He is on the waiting list for the professionals to assess him for autism. My biggest challenge is public meltdowns. People's stare n shake their heads, which indicates that he's being rude or we failed at teaching him proper social manners. Until someone is brave enough to approach and ask, and we say why, then all who's close enough to hear will start showing some compassion. He's non-verbal, not a single word. He did at one time (18 mths) say words but stop suddenly, no warning. He's now seeing a Speech and language specialist. N he's attending a nursery. Nursery has helped a lot with his social anxiety. I admit we were blessed to get him an one n one teacher. Sometimes there's regression in his interactions and it depresses me. All we can do is pray and try.

I am so happy she has you for a parent. Because some parents even when they know their child has special needs they will not be so calm and understanding like you.

If there is ever a silver lining in children having special challenges, it’s that their siblings grow up to be the most wonderful empathetic, loving, caring people in the world. The way they want to care and protect their siblings is so cute and so wonderful.

Just here to say that you are doing amazing ❤ as a BT it’s so frustrating when we work with a child that can definitely thrive, but consistently is a huge part for autistic children and we have parents who use us as a babysitter and don’t care to implament what we do, so how are they supposed to understand what is right. Parents like you always make my heart happy knowing that they are going to a loving home and parents who will take their time to help through their hard times and not just yell at them.

Hi precious I've been reading the comments and I noticed a lot of people are not being totally critical but are seeming to wonder why you're not getting more professional help with professionals that deal with autism I have asked you the following questions three times but I have never gotten an answer precious how do you feel about ABA therapy? I know some people say it is a miracle and I know other people that say their child is autistic and they don't want them to have to become like a neurotypical child all I see is a lot of struggling pain both for Miko and for you and your husband so it's very upsetting and I just hope somehow she can grow and finally find some peace and you find some peace

I’m glad you guys are able to get her additional help and I’m sure you already know this but getting professional help does not make you any less of a competent, caring, loving parent. If anything I feel like it adds on to those parental qualities. I was diagnosed with autism as a 19 year old adult 3 years ago and social anxiety and struggling with being perceived is something I’ve always struggled with. After being diagnosed late in life, I have (and still am) experienced social and coping skills regression as I am learning to unmask and be my true self. Being diagnosed late, unmasking is hard but also freeing at the same time
