Paul always use diesel or kerosene on stumps, drill holes in top of stump. Also take a leaf blower and aim at center of stump. It'll take a fire from 400°to over 2k degrees. I had a oak stump and used this method it burned for a week or more. But that big a$$ stump was gone roots and all.

Possible that you might want some strips of damp course paper or rubber in building paper on the floor between the steel and concrete under the tank Paul? Probably humidity dependant or optional ...

One Major recommendation for the tank "sight glass". Put isolation valves on both the top and bottom so your tank does not empty onto the floor when that tygon tubing gets knocked off or just pops off in the future. That would be a mess.

At least put a valve on the bottom. The tubing will need to be either cleaned or replaced periodically as you won't be able to see through it.

I was a tank tester at the Philly Shipyard. My favorite was getting sealed into a tank while they pressurized it. I would light a candle and move it around the welds and mark wherever the flame would point to it. Good times!

I was in the used oil business. You would do well to put a hose on the end of your pickup line and a float on it. That way you can suck in the oil almost at the very top regardless of how full the tank is. This will always give you the cleanest and driest oil. Another suggestion is run your tank filler pipe all the way down to about an inch off the bottom so as you pour oils in it won’t stir the BS&W (bottle sediment and water) into the oil. If you have it finished and want to add the extended filler pipe you will find exhaust pipe works great.

Most military equipment with fluid storage, the sight glass has a shut off valve on the bottom in the unlikely event the hose gets ripped off.

Put a valve on your bottom port for your site tube for oil level. If your hose ever breaks or needs replaced because it's cloudy, you can just shut the valve off and not have oil everywhere.

@@000622477 You can't use a one-way valve, the fluid has to be able to flow in both directions in order for the gauge to work.

I would suggest a ball valve at the lower site glass tube location, because if anything ever happens to the plastic site glass and it starts leaking you can easily isolate it, if not the whole tank will flood your shop!!

I don't miss an episode. Better entertainment than television. You might have done yourself a big favor by piping the filler neck outside. Keeps the mess out of the shop. Also, make sure you protect the tank from over pressuring or under pressuring. Use a separate vent with no valves and pipe that outside as well. Install a valves in your sight hose. It will get dirty pretty quick.

I always coat a scratch built tank with heavy duty truck bed liner. It makes the fuel pump quieter, and the tank look and last better.

I've built a few tanks for waste oil heaters. A good practice is to build them tilted to one corner and put a small drain valve in the low corner to drain water or antifreeze out at least once a week.

My first job after high school was at a tank Company.We built 21K gallons underground tanks and they were outside. I lasted all summer and that showed me what I didn’t want To do all my life.😊

Why not make the top cover using bolts and a gasket?? In case something is bad in your tank, or you need to clean the inside it's way easier to open, especially because you can't grind open the top due to fire hazard.. (or you will fill it up with water, but also not ideal....) Also maybe install some shut-off valves for the sightglass (Oc bottom most important). From my own experience, for sure it will leak or get ripped off once and you will be very happy you installed them.

Paul, if want that stump to completely burn up, use the method that my Dad used on 6-8’ diameter old growth stumps on our farm. He got them going like you have now. Then we shoveled dirt on them until the were completely covered and mounded up. We asked him if we just going to put them out? He said no it would smolder and actually even burn the stump and the roots system until all the sap fuel was gone. It took like six months of having to keep the cattle out of that pasture, but they did finally burn out. Some of the roots were like 40 feet from the stump! How do I know you ask? One day we would look out in that pasture and see a little trail of smoke coming out of the ground. We would let our Dad know when he got home from work and he would remind us that’s why we needed to keep the cattle out of there. So they wouldn’t accidentally fall through the ground where the roots had been or were still burning. It’s slow but thorough.

Old Indian way to get ride of a stump was 55 gallon steel drum with a smoke stack on top and open bottom. slide down over stump and add small stuff to start fire. Pulls air in bottom past stump and burns for a few weeks and gets roots at the base of the stump. Have had fire continue for 3 weeks and a root 20' away opened up. Then fire went out.

Hey Hunter.. Next time, and there will be a next time, put a camera on or towards the vehicle being rescued. Would have enjoyed seeing how that Honda got thru. And I am sure those 2 ladies would too. So when they redeem themselves, they know what to do.

At 5:50 into the video I noticed after you drilled one of the smaller holes for the fuel level gauge, your finger was on the trigger of the drill as you were removing the debris from the bit. This is a great way to end up contributing to an urgent care physicians Mercedes fund.

As an old tankie, the best way to check for leaks is diesel. As a welder for 35 years and builder of aluminum trailers for a few, the very best way to weld something you dont want to move is reverse welding.. say you have a straight weld that is 60 inches.. start welding at 10 and weld to 0, start welding at 20 and weld to 10, 30 to 20, 40 to 30, 50 to 40 and 60 to 50.

You need a cover that extends over the edges of the fuel funel and it needs to be hinged so it will stay there. Best wishes!

Paul did you drill holes in the stump. A hole hawg and a 1/2"-7/8" auger bit 1'-18" down pending on stump size. 10-15 holes and a bit of diesel in each hole

Have to agree with other comments. Valves on sight glass fittings, cap on drain valve, floating pickup tube, access hatch to clean sludge out of tank, paint the back & bottom so they dont rust, & a lid on intake port to keep dirt & sawdust out. Yeah, hindsite is 20/20, just hope you read the comments & do these things before its got hundreds of gallons of waste oil in it.

Looks Good Paul! Just a few suggestions: - Maybe put a strainer/screen in the bottom of the funnel so that you can keep big chunks out (say 1/4"-1/2" wire cloth). - And, you might want to consider putting a 'box' around your funnel perimeter (at the top) so that you can dump without overflowing the funnel. - Then you could also make a 'pan' as a cover for that box so that you can keep all of the crud/dust out. Last thing you want in that tank is a whole bunch of sawdust and other crud filling up the bottom - it will eventually cause problems with draining water. (Since you 100% welded it, there will be no getting in to clean it out with scoops/shovels and/or rags!) (Might have wanted to create a bolted 'man-hole flange' on top to allow access for clean-out... but hindsight is 20/20 :) )

Tape and dope is the only way to guarantee no leaks on threaded fittings get gas oil rated for the oil tank and the it will last forever. Even if tightening it up fixes it it wont fix it for long Old time pipe fitter love from Idaho!

A soft plastic sight glass more than likely, on a fuel oil tank, is against building codes. With all the welding you do in that shop, and the flying sparks the plastic tube can be damaged allowing your fuel to spill and cause a fire.

Just a thing I saw before, brush a little diesel on the weld and you will see it seep through the tiniest pin hole on the other side and won't have to fill it with water

For your stump, if it doesn't burn this time get you a long drill bit and drill some wholes and soak it for a couple weeks in the wholes with old oil and diesel.

If you go to a pool supply and get a gallon of muriatic acid, you can set those galvanized fittings in it overnight and the galvanized goes away.

Unlike most of your viewers, I know nothing about tanks. Well, it costs a small fortune to fill a fuel tank. I just like watching the channel. The guys did a super recovery. Neat stuff.
