Redington recently released their Trailblazer line of rods, designed to pack down light and store easily. They asked us to take them for a spin and capture what happened. We discovered that a great trip backpacking, camping, and fly fishing in remote wilderness is only as good as the tools you bring with you.
Thanks to Redington for making this video possible:

I will probably never meet you guys, but I can honestly say that your videos and storytelling abilities got me to pick up a flyrod that had sat dormant for years. I never learned to use it, until I found your videos and decided to invest the time and effort into using it. I worked in west glacier for the summer and used it extensively. I caught 5 different species of fish that I had never caught before all on a fly rod. If I ever see bullwinkle at a trailhead I will set you guys out a couple beers as a way to say thanks. Until then, I will keep hitting the like button on the inspirational videos you guys put out.

Thanks!! We kinda consider ourselves lucky to have brands like Redington supporting us and trusting is with full creative control over stuff like this. But yeah, we're psyched to get to work with them, we think they're doing lots of cool stuff! Hopefully we can work on something again in the future

Thanks Allan! Yeah we really liked them too. All of Redingtons stuff fishes well, but we really appreciated the small form factor. And call me crazy, but I actually love the red color. Easy to spot if you leave it on the bank etc, and so far, we haven't noticed it spooking any fish etc.

I’ve got a nice selection of fly rods. With no brand loyalty either (orvis, TFO, reddington, cortland, echo…) and the first thing I’ve gotta say is don’t let not having the fanciest gear keep you from getting out there. Better to get out there and make the best out of what you got then not go at all. Lastly I’ll give reddington this review. I don’t have one of their new rods but what I do have is a 2 wt butterstick glass rod. It packs down into the smallest rod tube that I’ve seen and weights next to nothing. That paired with a zero reel and I think you’d have a hard time finding a rod that’s better suited for hiking out to fish wild native brook trout streams of the northeast. And I’ve caught natives out of 17 different streams this year alone on that rod so I’ve put it through it’s paces. Can’t recommend it enough. Anyways another amazing video tight loops! There’s nothing quite like beautiful wild fish in beautiful wild places! Cheers 🍻

@TightLoops Год назад
So true. We've been fortunate to have been sponsored by some great brands like Orvis, which has afforded us the top end Helios etc (we would never have spent that much on a fly rod otherwise), but through it all, up until recently, our most used fly rod for small streams and backcountry trips was a $99 LL Bean all in one 3 wt. combo kit that we bought well over a decade ago. Plastic reel etc. We were still using the original fly line it came with even! And that rod has probably caught more fish than all our others combined. But we always thought one of the cool things about Redington is that they made competitively high end stuff for really affordable prices. But couldn't agree with you more; "The best rod is the one you got!"

Another cause limiting the ability to do it: time and expense restraints imposed on the average worker.
@TightLoops
@TightLoops Год назад
Perhaps, but if your familiar with the hiking community and their notoriety as “dirtbags” you’ll know that money isn’t necessarily a factor. As for time, I suppose that’s up to the individual and how to choose to prioritize their life. We make a whole lot less money than the “average worker”, but we’ve got an abundance of time. And listen, I get what your saying. I used to work a 9-5 and was too tired to do anything after work. I lived for the weekends. But the average person still has weekends, and they can choose to spend it outside, or at home watching the game.
