Not being hyperbolic at all, this is the single best and most concise high level guide for mechanics I've seen for OSRS ever. You did a great job explaining some of this stuff, even if I knew some of it already.
The moment he says, prayer flicking doesnt work like that at all, im like finally some1 gona explain me this stuff for real. "Sits up right, gets closer to computer"
This stuff has been in nh and lms guides for years honestly and is pretty basic pk knowledge. 7asty put it in a "pvm" vid and explained stuff pretty well though
For anyone intimidated by how long 7asty said it took him to get good at these combat mechanics, don't be! It's just a matter of experimentation and practice. Go to Sepulchre for pathing, solo GWD for 1 tick flicking, try lazy flicking an easy boss like Grotesque Guardians, etc. A lot of bosses give you an advantage if you can spot where to use these mechanics. It's about spotting opportunities and taking them. Another skill 7asty didn't mention (which is fair) is knowing when NOT to use them. 1 tick flicking is great and all, but if it makes you lose ticks, maybe don't use it. Solo Arma is a great example. It's really easy to make a mistake if you're trying to 1 tick flick while alternating targeting the melee minion and Kree (just be discerning enough to know if it's really because you need more practice). It's also not worth sweating it if it cuts into your enjoyment of the game so much that you're losing kc by losing interest in your goal and going off to do something else. Everyone has a different balance.
Pro tip, you can eat when not in an attack cycle (currently attacking a mob) and then attack on the same tick. When a monster dies you are not in an attack cycle so you can eat before attacking the next mob and not loose dps. The best use case is zulrah as you can fit in 2 eats in transitions.
To be honest, I only got better at Runescape when I learned Demonic Gorillas, then when I learned LMS. Most of RS isn't about actively increasing your skill level, its more knowledge and in game levels.
i agree with you, once i learned to do demonic gorillas its like i became a whole new player cuz i learned about the prayer switching, gear switching, listening to sound cues for attack styles switches, demonic gorillas its like a hidden gem to become better at the game lol
@@issues8084everyone plays differently. I love getting better at combat both pvm and pvp. Having faster switches, clicking more times per second and more accurately, paying attention to everything; it's fun for me. Some people enjoy sitting through rune crafting and mining till 99.
This is the kind of shit why I don't play the game anymore. All the fun was optimised out of it. I miss the game where we didn't know what we were doing.
Another good tip to prayer flick is to turn on the "Never hide prayer flick helper" option under the prayer plugin in runelite. Turn on your prayer and double click whenever the blue arrow starts on the left side of the prayer orb.
You can make your true-tile change color every tick with the "visual metronome" plugin too(or just use the visual metronome it puts on the screen). I found it a big help in getting used to tick manipulation methods.
Fun fact: Learning how to 1-tick prayer flick is also very useful for real life scenario's too! It's the same tempo for performing CPR, so in a medical emergency, if you feel comfortable enough to perform CPR, then you already have the rhythm embedded in your head from learning how to save your prayer pots on a childrens game!
I think you have a unique audience through making high level content but keeping it simple and entertaining for anyone to watch. You’re probably the best RS RU-vid to break down mechanics for a wider audience to understand. Keep making videos like this! I’m not part of any HLC but I understand ticks well enough to use them purposefully during gameplay, having a video like this explaining some finer details and helping visualize what’s happening helps speed up the process of trial and error and muscle memory by a lot.
I, for one, shall resign myself to skilling brainlessly while watching endless hours of RU-vid, including videos that tell me how to actually get good, but will never use because I am trash.
Best way to be good at Runescape is to enjoy the game and if not take breaks cause in the end you're playing games for fun and not only to get high stats or achievements even if that's what the fun is coming from.
man i came back to this game in october after a 15 years.. game is still the same but changed so much at the same time. i enjoy just clicking and looking..
Oh wow, I've been doing the 'lazy flicking' for years. Anytime something attacked with an odd tick cycle I would have a very difficult time getting it right. I never knew about the one tick flicking.
From the bottom of my heart - thank you! I've been playing for many years at this point and have quite almost maxed my ironman, but this video really taught me a lot of things I had no idea of. I always had trouble bossing and I knew it was due to my ignorance towards ticks in RS, but you really managed to explain it in a way, I'm sure the majority would be able understand. This motivates me like never before.
Its about time someone made a guide like this, it took me 10 years playing this game to learn this stuff and I just wish I had of seen this when I started because the trial and error I went through was horrible, iv seen a few of tests vids while learning inferno but this brought a new respect to the man for taking the time out to help people understand mechanics. You just got yourself a mee sub. Keep up the great work man.
It took me about 1 year to become proficient at the methods. Obviously if you train with a mentor with intent then you can probably master it in a week or two, but no one is that sweaty at rs off the bat lol. For me I just liked watching a lot of intense top level pvm and pvp content and I tried replicating everything they do. Through some trial and error I got each technique down fairly quickly, but I do have some consistency issues 😅
The pathing explanation helped a lot. Always wondered how I could run through the tornadoes in the gauntlet or why I would get hit when I didnt appear to be on a hit tile.
Will be honest never expected the best high level mechanics guide to be from you, this tops the PurpleGod guides, cheers, sending this to all my friends struggling with pvm
Thanks, buddy! Coming back to the game after years to relive my childhood. This was a great in-depth guide in mechanics I never considered before. Elvarg isn't going to stand a chance!
A lot of this stuff still applies to skilling efficiently lol. It’s not as imperative. But it’s not really imperative for combat activities either except the hardest of hard bosses. Most things you just need the right stats for.
holy crap I learned how to one tick flick!!! Once you told me the icon will never turn off I understood it. I noticed I can only do it with quick prayers I can't get it down with the prayer icons. Thank you so much this means so much to me. I already knew the pathing stuff from your gauntlet video. It helps to know the information, but I'm not sure how to implement it specifically at gauntlet because I am trying to learn corrupted and just can't get perfect runs. I have 75 regular kc but for some reason I can't do corrupted, I've literally got him down to 7 hp and ran out of food.
This is the single best guide to explaining how ticks work in relation to movement and prayer I have seen, I was also flicking wrong. Thanks a ton I'v been trying to learn more about game ticks and this has made a lot of things make a lot more sense
Your guides are genuinely some of the best on RU-vid, and watching them has made me much better at the game, and I'm having a lot more fun because of it. Thank you so much for what you do 7asty
This was the perfect video for someone (ya boi) who's just getting into the early stages of late game PvM content. The flicking and ticking are things I have a decent time implementing pre-watching this video, but the pathing part was something I had no idea about the exact mechanics
Instantly subbed after seeing your attitude and style of the video. Hope the rest of the content is this good! I remember J1mmy shouting you out once before as well.
The only one i wasn't aware of is the movement/pathing ... the attack cycles i learned due to f2p pvp for that quick 2h swap and the prayer flick was due to training slayer on pure while being poor. Good vid dude.
I really wish that there’d be fewer videos about maximizing efficiency in OSRS and more videos about the game itself. There’s a handful of videos about game lore and thousands of videos concerning game ticks and guides and quickest/most efficient ways to level skills.
Great guide. I've looked into ticks before and understand the basics from experience but seeing them visualized and hearing the metronome is quite eye opening. You bring up a great point at 3:30 that may not be so intuitive. Since game ticks are so long, there's a huge window for input; if you're not sync'd with things like XP drops it's going to end up being much less reliable. 10/10 video, ultra in-depth!
Idk. This stuff on a technical level just doesn't click for me. 122 iron with quite a bit of pvm but know things like the inferno are just.. out of reach. it is what it is.
while trying to learn to prayer flick nobody ever gave me clear answers like that, they always said "just double click l0l" i had to figure out that turn it on first part by myself and that was infuriating trying to figure out why i couldn't get it down thanks for actually explaining that
Amazing video 7asty! Love your content and your streams. This was an excellent explanation of how game mechanics work most of it has been trial and error for me watching other ppl kill bosses but this explains why they're doing it and the effects it has. Thank you sir!
You forgot the most important tip about learning tick cycles. Sea Shanty 2 is 100 BPM and each beat falls on a game tick so you can use that song as a metronome.
That Sotetseg clip caught me so off guard and I am 100% certain I woke up my roommate laughing. This is why I love you 7asty (my roommate, not so much)
thanks for making this; we need more content on the meta-skills it takes to get good at OSRS. I thought I was decent before I started running CG, that was a hell of a learning curve.
I feel like I always had a vague understanding of game ticks up until learning verzik p2, then it became literally game changing. Understanding the rhythm of the game can be applied to pretty much every aspect of the rs, just takes some challenging content to force you to learn how it works.
Been playing this game since 2005 and I never knew any of this that being said I’ve never gone out of my way to fully understand any of this information. As for the prayer flicks I honestly thought it was turn on the prayer just before the mob moves and turn off right after
How the fuck is a 7asty video the one that managed to help me learn advanced pvm mechanics in runescape?! I thought it was all memes and then BAM i can 1 tick flick! You have earned my respect runescape PointCrow
I remember discovering lazy flicking and game ticks back in 2007, but I didn't know there was a term for it. At a certain point, you just develop an internal metronome after playing for so long.
I'm honestly not worried about doing this until I max because I want to focus on it. I'm not far off but that was my plan max then get into all the bossing
Been watching all of your videos. You got me back into RuneScape. I don’t really have anyone to play with or a clan to join so if you know anyone let me know! You’ve got yourself a new sub.
Subbed after this. Amazing wish this had been made before I wasted countless hours of my life on inferno attempts. Great vid Also, idea for my new fav RS player: loot from 1-99 slayer. All drops
Man ur guides on how the game is set up and works is so motivating and the fact that u have nothing against telling us u where a noob for 3 years (Lets be honest everyone exaggerate so u were a noob for 5 years) makes it much more motivating to learn since it does take time and effort but its also when the game gets really great. U do really deserve the same amount of subs as the goats of content creation. - Your vids are incredible and u have a gift at explaining. Super happy i found ur channel. Keep it up
I always have to wonder who dislikes vids cus this was really informative. I had a general idea but couldn't really understand. Definitely gonna watch this vid a couple more times while practicing in CoX.
this was very helpful for me, I have played osrs for a few years now and id like to say I am good at the game. I know ticks quite well along with movement and those are big things but one thing that has always alluded me was doing 1tick prayer flicking i can 1 tick on monster attacks to use 0 prayer but never have I been able to keep it consistent but this video explained it perfectly. I was able to do 1 tick flicking consistently from the get go just needed a little explination
I struggled with one-tick flicking, the thing that ended up working for me is, when using the runelite metronome, aim to get the second click of the double click on the metronome tick. That works quite consistently. Also the runelite metronome flows with the lag (so it ticks off-beat in case of lag), which is annoying but good because your flicks should also ideally adapt be in tune with the lag which you can only realistically do with the plugin.
