Full review of the 2022 Ford Maverick XLT Ecoboost. AWD 4 k towing package. This is my personal truck and my personal opinions! Purchased and ordered at Whitmoyer Ford.
New Strategy from Automakers: Increase MSRP, decrease production, encourage customer orders which inherently creates less risk for automakers, create marketing hype and shortages, sell less vehicles with higher profit margin, dealers can do what they want but we'll pretend to be angry when they charge over MSRP, no loss in revenue for Ford or dealers, convince customers paying MSRP is a "great" deal. Got em!
This is basically what the 3rd/4th gen Ford Ranger used to be. You can load the truck bed without risking blowing out your back. Agree, on points on not paying over MSRP.
You are really downgrading this truck. The door handles is the same as the higher end ford trucks. Interior is very rugged. Drives really nice. Mpg is awsome. I traded my F150 for a Maverick and like the Maverick way better. And the motor isn’t that noisy. You shouldn’t be doing the review on this.
I got my new 2023 Maverick for $27,960 after I told them I was pissed when they slapped 10k on the proposal they sent me after spending all day working on getting the paperwork done. They came back and removed the up charge and gave me more for my trade ins. I think I got a pretty good deal. I hope..
Jake...nice review. Contrary to what a lot of people think some of the Mexico plants for several manufacturer's including Ford have some of the latest innovations in automated robotic technology. I have a 2023 Tacoma Off Road which is also made in Mexico. My son has the Maverick XL. I think its a great little truck. I am going to order a XLT Tremor July 17th , I like them that much. The Taco cost me over 41K. I agree about the Orange accents inside and I'm glad the Tremor has black inside. It does have some Orange outside that I don't mind at all. The Taco is just as loud inside my cabin with that V-6.....and the on FOB remote start is horrible because it has so little range. I wind up using the Toyota app all the time so Ford Pass will be just fine. Have fun with your truck...its very nice....also love the way you take care to protect it....wise man. 😉
Hey man, great review. I'm in the same boat as you, with the rear facing child seat. I've noticed mounting the seat in the middle works best, it allows front seat occupants to recline a bit more if needed.
All these reviews on the maverick talk about how great it is. Only problem is where I live the dealers are charging 5 to 10 grand mark up on them if you can find one. Also just looked a 2022 used with 5000 miles on it. only a LT 2 wheel drive and they wanted 36000 for it. a msrp on a new one like it was only 27000. Ford needs to fix this.
I like the orange. Get a engine cover cuts down the nose from the engine about 75.00. You must have some great hearing I don't hear all the driving noises you hear. I got the 4k tow too got it for resale and cooling advantages. Great vehicle for 31k loaded.
vehicles are so expensive now and this one caught my eye, it looks good and i wanted a truckish car i dont actually need a truck and i hate crossovers and round vehicles
I have an XLT Tremor coming in the next 2 weeks, and I'm so excited. Found ONE dealer in the region that wasnt marking them up, and had decent dealer fees (especially compared to others).
Im getting a maverick in the xlt because I honestly think it fits my needs the best, the price is great, and I really like the interior more than the lariat. The orange trim its fun and makes the truck stand out a little bit. I feel like a lot of mid level trims in vehicles now a days look drab and basic.
I agree, I like the denim seats much better than that strange brown and blue Lariat combo. Suggestion you can see on one of my videos called 3 Mavericks: Trade your center console orange trays with an XL owner. I like the orange but it's too much. You will see that both interiors look better after the swap.
All of the small pickups from childhood (non-Tacoma Toyota, Nissan, etc) got bigger as they progressed through the generations. Eventually becoming mid-sized trucks versus small. They also got outrageously expensive too.
that's right , they are not building smaller trucks ,per se but cheaper (affordable) trucks. Most don't NEED a big truck . I have been driving Ranger 4x4's for the last 32 yrs (two trucks )
Reminds me of several relatives who never removed plastic cover from lampshades. My seats are stained, there's a few scratches on paint, and after a year and 18,000 mi it's not seen a car wash. I'll detail it a bit before I trade it on the 2023 when/ if it comes in. It's an XL hybrid, hitch, 360, window and I've ordered an XLT hybrid with same options. Love it for price and gas milage.
Nice review! I hope to do one like this once I get my fully loaded Lariat Hybrid. Almost got scheduled this month but pretty sure it was that darn moon roof among other factors. Mine will also be the new Atlas blue which I don't see many reviews yet so more power to me 😊 Also viewers the 4k tow package is still a big constraint, so u want it faster I would take that off, no bed cover, no splash guards and let ur dealership spray the bed!
@Arun Varghese 1st day for 2023. September 15th at 9pm is when my order went through because order couldnt be submitted to the sheer load of volume my dealer saved 50 or so orders and when ford's system came back up all they had to do is click submit where as other dealers sound like waited until next morning. I'm still waiting but I feel like will be next month for sure! Prayers yours is soon also!
@@TechAttack7 letting my fingers crossed. my lesson learned is to have gone to a bigger dealership in a state with stricter emission requirements. those states are getting them sooner
@Arun Varghese havnt heard that one but I know it's based on how many allocations your dealer gets per month from Ford and that's based off how many sales your dealer is able to achieve in the month. So bigger dealer would help for sure but hard working dealer would be just as good!
You think the AWD system isn’t as good as Subaru?? Lol it’s crazy to me how Subaru just got to the segment so early and has been doing it for so long that everybody thinks their system is the best. It’s not. It’s good yes. It’s definitely not at the top. My Buick regal I had a couple years ago had an awd system that put Subarus to absolute shame. That’s field tested and not something I’ve read online. Subaru awd system is old, outdated, and in need of an upgrade but they won’t do it because they don’t have to. They don’t have to have the best awd system because of what you said at the start. Nobody is looking for “more”. Good for them and props to them.
I've had dozens of AWD cars and the Subaru symmetrical system is pretty darn good (for snow traction) in my opinion. That being said Subarus are most definitely outdated-that we can agree on... So far the Audi Quattro system seems to be the "best" in my experience. Thanks for watching!!
I wish folks would stop saying its not a ‘real truck’ because its a unibody. It has a higher payload than a tacoma, and the tow package comes with a built in trailer brake controller. That right there makes it more of a truck than most bed on frame 3/4 ton trucks. No, you can’t make it into a dump truck, or stake bed, but who cares? It as much a truck as any other crew cab truck. Saying its not a real truck is like saying a monowing plane isn’t a ‘real’ plane because original planes were all biplanes.
Driving Sports TV channel shows that a Subaru does not have the AWD they used to. I think the reason why is the whole automotive industry wants to get as much mpg as possible. Subarus used to have a full-time AWD system but now they might use a part-time AWD to save fuel. Anyway, the Maverick did better than the Subaru in their test ...both have part-time AWD.
1. The license plate is always offset regardless of whether you have a tow package. 2. You can get seat covers for under $20 at Autozone. Just do that. 3. I thought with ford pass you have to push the button down for a while. Also, don't you have the hood up? Use it to start the truck when you are far away, not just right next to it.
Yes Brent, FWD with snow tires is fine for flat areas. But in the mountains, you will get stopped at chain control. My videos show my AWD non FX4 with the std street tires climbing steep roads in Park City no problem. I never put chains on even with the huge snow year.
There's a bypass harness for that auto-shutdown feature that plugs into the OBD port. Don't remember where to get it and I'm too lazy to find out but its out there, haha. Gets rid of the need to press that button every time you start the truck.
Also a crappy app is better than no app. The functionality is much more than some other makers. Also remember the app is free. Kia I think wants $30 a month to do remote starts.
I have owned a Maverick for almost a year now with 15k miles put on it. I live in northeastern Minnesota, and the truck has been great especially in the ice and snow. It is a 2 liter, all-wheel drive, with 4k tow package and luxury package. I find this review snobbish and nitpicky to the extreme! If you want a luxury car or pickup, please spend all your extra money on it and leave the Mavericks to people who just want a really good vehicle at a really fair price. My wife drives a 2022 Subaru Forester, and I have found the Maverick's all-wheel drive equal to or better than the Forester--real world driving in a really tough winter environment. So far, I have found the Maverick to be the best vehicle I have owned in the last 50 years of driving new and used cars/trucks. It is a great truck for someone who does not want or need a big truck. Also, I do not want or need a luxury vehicle and would not waste my money on one. If you are thinking about buying a Maverick but question it because of this video, talk to some real-life owners of Mavericks and get their honest opinions. Forget what is said in this video, or go ahead and buy something 20-30k more expensive and enjoy. I can appreciate people who want more luxury, but please do not condescend to people who choose a Maverick because of what it is, not because of what it is not. There is a reason why the Maverick is one of the hottest selling vehicles on the market today. Not sure why the maker of this video bought a Maverick. It is obviously not the right fit for him.
Cruise control in my grandfathers, 1971 Buick, LeSabre, 225 was a dial on the speedometer. If it went one over the 55 mph it buzzed. Yep that was cruise control in a luxury vehicle. Climate control. If you got hot, turn it up if you got cold, turn it down. If you wanted a powerPort, you just took the cigarette lighter out. And you kept change in the ashtray for the occasional turnpike trip. It was never more than 3 quarters ever!!! My grandmother would have traded her 72 Cadillac sedan Deville in a heartbeat for a new Maverick…
I was a validation engineer for Ford and I can say that the app is not good at all. Always had issues with it and slowed down the workflow by a couple days due to cloud issues sometimes.
It will never start with your hood open for safety reasons, I have tried it on my F-150. As for the app your were wrong about it unless your phone messed or glitched. I have been able to start and unlocked my truck from 1000 miles with my phone with out a problem.
I was so hyped for the Maverick when I heard about it! Ive been needing/wanting a truck, but didnt want to pay the price for the tacoma, ranger, or colorado. The Maverick was like a dream come true for me, because I have a 2014 Focus ST that Ive put 212k miles on with basically no issues. I live the 2.0 Ecoboost engine, and for my needs it was great. Having a bed to do all my projects around the house, take trash to the dump, and have enough room to fit my family of 5 in a pinch. It was a fantastic value in the low $20k price range, but as soon as the 50% markups started, it really lost its appeal to me. Ill wait a few years and see if I can find a good deal on one, but if I cant Im in a financial position to get a bigger truck and the new Nissan Frontiers are really calling to me. Id like to pay of my wifes vehicle in the next 2 years and put another 15-20k miles on my 2014. I wish the Maverick came with a manual and Id be screwed financially!😂
Mark, don't wait years to get a Maverick. Order banks are scheduled to open July 17. Order a 2024MY from a dealer that charges msrp they are out there. Be sure to get it in day 1 because my bet is with millions more wanting a Mav, orders will close in 24 hrs, not 1 week like last time. Ask any questions on my channel.
Trashing a $28,000 vehicle comparing it to Mercedes 3 times the price really? Also solution for the orange is 2023 XLT 4K with Black appearance package like mine.
Great review. Unfortunately Ford seems to have a theme of having horrible engine bay designs with wires and plumbing going every where. The loud unrefined feeling, crappy welds, cheap interior re-enforces CHEAP. 28K is still a lot of money though but the dollar value is becoming so much less powerful. Given other options though, its a fairly good looking little truck that does truck stuff and does not cost 45K. It will be really interesting to see if we have other newer small truck entries like we used to have in the 80s.
license plate is always on the right even without the trailer hitch. And please peel the Band-Aid take the covers off the seats. Don’t make it look like grandma‘s living room. Lol just messing with you every one has their thing.
You learned that new vehicles will not remote start with the hood open. mechanic safety feature. do not want to be working on the vehicle and someone remote starts it!
exactly. Almost every vehicle set up to tow has a towing capacity higher than its weight. Some F-150’s have 14,000 lbs capacity. They don’t weigh 14,000 pounds
@@marklihsu didn't you know, Hunches are far superior to the scientific methods used by engineers? Wouldn't you rather trust the safety of your life on Hunches rather than empirical mathematics?
I hated when people say Maverick is not a truck… just don’t buy! Stop saying the positives and negatives… only 28k. Stop criticizing. You have so many choices. So thumbs down.
Makes a lot of noise? Buddy have you driven or heard a full size truck? They're the loudest vehicles on the road. Our Chevy Tahoe is loud as hell. My dad's Dodge Ram is loud as hell. Pickup trucks are loud. This isn't a Tesla.
My F-150 weighs 5300# and it can tow 10000#. All trucks 3/4 and 1 ton trucks weigh less than the loads they can pull. Sounds like you owned a car your whole life 😂😂
Very nit-picky about things you don't like. You buy the cheapest truck but complain that it is cheap. My Ford Pass works fine, must be your phone. My Lariat is quiet, powerful, nice colors, great options. And the Mexico plant won the highest quality award of all the Ford assembly plants.
Someone that doesn't have a lot of room to park. Also someone who never needs to haul more than a board or two or a sheet or two. I can buy two mavericks for what a f150 typically costs.
