Also great brow advice, as always. For anyone with dark brown hair wanting a single product that doesn’t need layering/mixing, I’m a big fan of the tone of the maybelline tattoo brow in 07 black/brown (with an angled brush, the included wand is a nightmare). It’s neutral/leaning cool.
I wonder if she did match them? I thought she chose a background that matched her tones, and the lipstick just fits because of course she’s using one in her tones. Either way - beautiful harmony.
Asian beauty brands are great for finding cool-toned lighter brow products (especially pencils). Shades called 'soft black', 'grey black', or 'grey brown' are usually good options. If you can still find them, Nabla pencils in 'Neptune' and Zoeva pencil in 'asphalt' are good options for medium-dark hair colours.
ive honestly been considering buying a medium grey eyeliner pencil or something because every product seems to just be waaaay too warm toned unless its a super dark shade
Me too! I have at least 20 pencils and none of them are right. Too orange, too dark. And the ink-like ones don’t actually mimic individual hairs. They just release a blob of color. I’m 41 and still haven’t found any that work. Thank you for these tips.
@@AlexandraAnele an additional struggle is that i really have almost no brow hairs at the front LOL so instead of it being a sparse area it’s just bald 😭 it’s a nightmare
I did that, & it was a game changer. My hair is a very ashy brown, & every taupe or ash brown eyebrow product that I've tried have all looked too red on me. I use Benefit's Cool Grey color now, & it's perfect.
I actually just tried it for the first time like a couple of months ago and I literally have no eyebrows and by no means do they come out like twins lol 😆 but I love the way it works
@@rachelrae860 Brow symmetry when you have no actual brows to use for guideline is hardcore no matter the product. You can only master it with time and training (I know cause I shaved my brow a few times to experiment things lol 🤣)
@Aurorya I hear you I think from me waxing for so many years I think I just lost like all my eyebrow hair I mean I do have a little and am getting better day-by-day when I do them but thank you for the advice mama❤️🤗
The NYX brown tint pen is literally the most incredible product to use, people are always shocked when I tell them I fill in my brows, they always think that I had them microbladed because of the effect this product gives of those fine hairs... everyone should listen to Alex and at least try it!!
and i thought..yeah looks great if she does it that even...but if i do it = 💩.I´ve had one from the drugstore and it said its a precise one..but still it looked wonkey..made my eyebrows too dark and therefore made me look so stern and grungyEven though it was a dark blonde shade..blonde! Which coor should i pick for brown hair on light skin 😕?Which one do you use? And has it red undertone?
@@madlenj.4644 if you have an ULTA near you try to book an appointment to get them done at the Benefit brow bar. They can walk you through the “how to “ to compliment your skin tone and face shape. Even the stand alone Benefit stores will offer this service.
@@madlenj.4644 the taupe. The key is to go in as light as possible and the wax or diffused soap to make the existing hairs stand out more so that you are filling in way less. I use a no colour nyx brow stick it product first, see how much it boosts my cool toned mousey brown brows and then use the tint pen to fill in the rest. It also oxides and bleeds a tiny bit so using less is better.
That was👊🏾👍🏾. My ride or die brow products are the NYX micro brow pencil in Espresso & Ash Brown. Then, layer with Brunette, Ash Brown, or Espresso. As an African -American, it's hard to find the balance for a warmth or coolness that doesn't go overboard.
I JUST bought that NYX brow tint pen and it is my new holy grail. I basically have no tails on my brows and I hate it. The taupe is a perfect match for my brows and it looks so natural when I draw the tails in. I've tried many, many products in my 40ish years of wear makeup (and naturally having sparse brows), and this is hands down the best I've ever used. This is a great video!
I do NOT personally struggle with this, but it's still such good content. I love that you implement color theory into your process. I'm inspired: I'm going to try playing with a cooler and warmer tone blush.
How timely your video is for me. Only this morning while doing my brows, I cursed my pencil colour, the right depth but too warm. NYX pencil in grey appears as the perfect colour for me, and I’ve now just ordered. Thank you. 🙋♀️🇨🇦
I am OBSESSED with the NYX lift and snatch. My brows are permanently damaged due to years of plucking and shaving, so I've been using the Anastasia pomade, lift and snatch, and occasionally a powder.
My hair is naturally warm toned dark brown, while my eyebrows are an ashy black so a lot of shades look way too warm and bold. I always opt for drier pencils in lieu of the softer formulas because they often have an ashier color that matches best. I love that NYX pen though and I will probably pick that up to experiment with. These videos are answering the important questions! 👌🏻❤️
I have dirty/dark ash blonde hair, fair skin with cool undertones. I've found using a cool-toned contour powder works great for my eyebrows. Applied with a narrow, sharp-angled brush that's wet makes it perfect. Thanks for the video!
This is so helpful. I am a natural ash blonde and nobody makes brow products for me. They’re all either way too warm or way too dark. This is a wonderful solution. Thank you!
I’m 72 & maxed out on brow products I’m not happy with. I know I’m very unskilled in makeup. I have grey very sparse thin brows, need something to color, adhere to skin. Former blonde, now grey, hazel eyes-I lean towards Taupe, Grey when found, need Ash, Cool. I never would have chosen grey-black as you did. This was so very helpful!! Thank you!!
You are adorable & intelligent & you understand color & tone & shades. Keeper! 42 years as stylist & salon owner I am amazed how many ppl do not understand color/tone at all. It is a gift.
Such a good video Alex! Side note...Jen Luv just put out a video about the history of eyebrow trends that was so interesting and she uses you as an example of current brows. Was cool to see!
I’ve got salt & pepper hair and I use the NYX pens in Gray/Black and Ash Brown together. I sometimes adjust the ratio depending on if I’m wearing a slightly warmer or cooler outfit/makeup.
I have medium cool tone brown brows, and I’ve been using the NYX regular micro brow pencil in the shade 05.5 Cool Ash Brown and I’d say, at least for me, that it seems like a true cool tone. I do not find that it leans warm or turns warm later in the day. Perhaps because I use the Schwarzkopf Got2B hair glue to set it that maybe it keeps my brows from ever getting oily or running the color, but it still seems like a true cool ash brown to me. I don’t think the color came out until last year when I first purchased it, and Amazon still labels it a “new” color. But I’d recommend it for those looking for a cool tone brown.
This is somehow the most helpful beauty advice I've ever had. I'm constantly trying to find the right blonde pencil/pen, and it's never right. I need to combine them to get the balance! Excited to try this!
I find for lighter blondes taupe is generally the best bet, blonde shades are generally warmer. But cream and powder products will be a bit different. But it also depends on your shade of blonde lol
This pen and I envy brow top coat is all I use. Both very affordable. I make bomb brows with this pen because I have those realistic thin hair strokes in the the front. The brow top coat makes them smudge proof and last all day and don’t come off until I wash them off. The perfect duo for bomb brows
I have learned to do my brows properly from you, Alex, so thank you. Before, I only used a thick eyebrow pencil with clear mascara. I now use a slightly warm toned micropencil, and the biggest difference is you've introduced me to the NYX brown pen in a cooler tone. Together, they make my eyebrows look more natural.. I have upgraded to the elf brow mascara, which is great as I'm too scared to try the soap method as I've been told by an eyebrow salon that my brows are wayyyy too thin! Love your channel and those earrings are gorgeous on you! Lots of love xxx 💖
The timing on this is amazing cause I’ve spent the past two weeks searching for a new brow product. My brows are dark and narrow but dark shades look too heavy even with a light hand. Definitely keeping this in mind when I hit up Ulta today!
If you're looking for a cool toned brow pencil, you may want to try the CoverGirl Micro-Fine and Define brow pencil. I use the shade Soft Brown, and it's the perfect Medium Ash Brown colour (I was previously using the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Brown). I wouldn't describe the CoverGirl as a "soft" brown. It's actually darker than that, but that's what they call it. They do have a darker brown shade, but since you don't want it too dark, you may be quite happy with the Soft Brown. My neice has dark brown brows, and she really likes the Soft Brown shade. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. It's great drug store brow pencil option.
@@michellekelly2937 Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that one! I just picked up ABH dipbrow in Medium Brown and it looks so much better on me than when I used Dark Brown or Ebony. That CoverGirl brow pencil sounds like the perfect shade to replace my taupe brow pencil without looking purple on me.
I actually use the Nyx lift-n-snatch brow pen in gray black on BOTH my brow & eyeliner. I find that color works well to give a natural accent to my asian complexion (black hair, light medium tone skin). Also, that is the only liquid product that lasts forever, every other type of liquid brow/liner product seems to dry out after a couple of week, but the Nyx one lasts forever. I also use the benefit brow gel in gray for my brow just by itself. It's one of the few brow gel that even comes in gray tone. That particular color and gel is the only one that seems to look natural on my brow.
Yes! I have white hair and brows and very cool skin tones. Getting my brows dialed in without looking like Morticia Adams is tough. Now if I could just find the right foundation shade!
If anyone's looking for a tinted brow gel that is the perfect grey with a microscopic tinge of taupe, grab Kosas Air Brow Tinted Clean Volumizing Eyebrow Gel in Grey. It's perfect. But those Nyx brow pens are really really fabulous.
My hair is white. My sparse brows are white and BLACK! Whaaat! All blondes i have tried are too yellow/orange. Not too noticeable until i see a photo. This has been helpful. Thank you so much...trying tomorrow! 😮 BTW...my bedroom in the last two houses were the same color as your background! LOVE that rusty/terracotta color...my fav. ❤❤❤
I love the NYX Lift and Snatch brow pen. Also, I’ve been using your eyelash hack using the UD eye primer after I curl but before mascara and it works so well for me.
My favorite eyebrow thing eveeeer is to apply Nyx eyeshadow primer all over the eyebrow hairs- except the inner corner, cause I don't want them to be very intense there- wait a couple mins, then use my normal powder. Dude! It fills them up more sparsely (as in intense but the light color of the primer sticks out here and there and balances it out and looks natural- I guess it's because the primer neutralizes the redness from the brown powder- and it stays matte all day. Aand, compared to soap, the hairs don't fall down throughout the day. Dunno how you do it Alex, but soaps or gels didn't work for me last summer. As soon as I went outside and sweat a bit it became a mess...but no more. I swear this trick I tried changed the game for me! 😁 Edit: it's important to blend the primer with your fingers and really press it into the hairs after applying it cause otherwise it's too thick on the eyebrows and it looks as if they have a white ish contour 😂 Edit two: forgot a very important detail: brush the hairs upwards after applying the powder. Everything stays up afterwards.
I go for a grey brow pencil so I can smudge and then sharpen so I can create actual hairs. I’m a dark ask coloured blond now so it works well. You made me feel competent. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. 👏👏👏❤❤❤🤩🤩🤩
I have the opposite problem, I have very light ginger hair and almost non-existent eyebrows so every reddish shade is too dark on me, and every light shade is too cool-toned. I feel like there's definitely been an improvement with cool-toned products becoming more widely available over the years, though (if we compare it to let's say the 2000s). I think the solution should be making brow products the same way the shades for foundation are made - make it a cool/warm + light/dark scale. Don't know why we still consider a 5-shade range appropriate for brow products!!
this is so good! I have super dark eyebrows, Dark Brown in Anastasia Dipbrow is my perfect match, but I always use taupe! it looks so much better and more natural on me!
This was so helpful! I have been looking for brow pencils for 4 weeks now!!! I've heard so many ways people are doing them nowadays and am confused. Soap? Pomade? Just pencil or blading? We didn't do this in Cosmetology years ago. We were more tweeze and natural. Thanks hon!
Alex…….. we need (or maybe it’s just a me thing and I need) another channel that talks about all your fashion stuff. Or maybe a list in the description, but why not get paid for it too? I love your top (and want it) but I’m OBSESSED with your earrings and NEED THEM! This is all within the first 2 seconds of your video too. Ok time to watch it. 🥰💕
I’ve started using the lift and snatch in gray and it looks soooo much better with my cool toned dark dark brown brows. I’ve tried lots of different brown colors and they all look too warm or too dark. The gray pen looks super natural
This is phenomenal, thank you! ❤ I struggle with my brows so badly because my hair is fine like yours is, but my skin is so, so oily, and incredibly acne prone. ABH brow definer stays for a few hours with setting spray, but if I use it too many days in a row, I break out along my brows. I wish I could use soap! Thanks Alex! 💜
Being SO blonde and diying eyebrows medium brown, it's SO hard to find perfect color on low contrast face 😆 I'm going to try this tomorrow with ash grey browpen and follow much precisely one on warm brown. Thank you for this ❤❤❤ Sincerely "owning too much browstuff cause non of them is perfect color" 🙈😆
I think my eyebrow products collection would win a prize for more of everything ever made for eyebrows. My favorites combo at present are the Mac pen in Flint and Valentino in taupe (on top of Benefit clear gel), and then topped with a brown brow powder that very slightly warm - as I’m auburn. I am obsessed with my eyebrows - to say the least.
Depending on your hair color and brow density, part of what gives brows the appearance of fullness/opacity is not the brow hairs themselves, it's the shadows they cast on the skin underneath them. So IME, for a naturalish look, the best "soft fill" (the kind of product you spread throughout the whole brow area, not the kind where you're sketching in individual "hairs") is a hue that's a shadowy sheer warm black or grey, maybe with just a hint of the color of your hair or skin. I have light pinky-cool skin and generally wackadoo candy-colored hair, so my go-to is just a sheer warm black which matches my lashes (okay fine, and also my copious roots). But even if you're blonde or ginger, you might be happier with a soft-fill color that's WAY more desaturated than the usual.
I think the best thing I've found is this Maybelline pencil thing "Express" maybe ? has powder sponge on one end and brow pencil on the other. Point being I love the powder end !!❤
This is so helpful, thank you for such great info! My eyebrows are black but sparse and I have pale, cool toned skin. I made the mistake of buying black brow products to match my natural brow color. The black was so harsh and artificial looking against my pale skin! I found that grey brow products look best on me or sometimes cool toned darker brown. Thanks to your tips I can try combining them.
I do wish you’d list the products used by each eye. ❤ I’m confused as heck… but I’m sure it’s just me. Still would love them listed out when you link them. 😘😘
I’m a warmer blonde but prefer an ashier brow. Really liked the tone of nabla brow ambition brow pen in Ash blonde best tone Iv found without it being almost grey it’s not warm but not too cool, Con pen doesn’t last as long as other brands Iv tried. Anastasia Beverly Hills in blonde isn’t as warm as expected it’s very long lasting on the skin great for oily skin ,Con too pigmented Iv been waiting for my pen to age and wear out so I can actually enjoy it lol. Warm toned darker blonde option I enjoy is milani brow pen in soft brown, each pen has lasted me a really long time for drugstore. Edit -honorable mention cool tone brow gel elf wow brow gel in taupe, true cool toned gel very impressed
Thank you so much for mentioning "green" eyebrows, I have an eyebrow gel that does this and it freaked me out, I usually use a pencil. Have any ideas why it looks green? I know use the NYX brow pen and a pencil. I like how you used two different shades, I am going to try this to see if it looks more natural on me. I so appreciated this video!!💚
The best thing I’ve used (for ease and efficacy and honestly, laziness) is the benefit gimme brow+ fiber gel. Natural but fuller, one and done. And it doesn’t smudge. They have a pretty good range of shades too.
Your top is so hypnotic, it feels like I've entered an altered state of consciousness just watching this. 😵💫😵💫😵💫, and suddenly the urge to click 'Super Thanks '' is overwhelming 😝
That Nyx pen in Taupe is my perfect freckle color for days that I want to enhance & add to my freckles even if I'm not planning on wearing a lot of other makeup. Which is great, because it's also too warm for my brows.
I often use grey eyeshadow. Or a true, cool-toned contour. I don't personally need a second product because my brows aren't sparse, so it's that and sometimes clear brow gel. I think it's easiest to find exact tones in eyeshadow.
Alex you need to try the MAC brow pen in Taupe. My life change definitely. We have very similar colors and I always go with your suggestions. When I discovered this brow pen my life really change.
The video of my dreams. As someone that's pale with eyebrows that are naturally black with some bald patches, it is a constant battle trying to get the color right. It's like if I don't just use straight up gray and black, it noticeably stands out against the rest of my brow, although I heard for years to never use black and to opt for dark browns instead (which always looked orange and were too light, even the more cool toned options).
Me too! We’re always told to go lighter on brow colour but it looks so weird when you have black brows with orangey brown product in. Switching to black brow products changed the game for me
I wish cosmetics companies would stop using that green whatever it is, to ash blonde and ash brown brow products….maybe a violet color for an ashy shade? All the ash blondes and browns I’ve ever tried either turn green or are too red. I started using greys & light charcoal colors.
Alex have you tried Uoma yet? Their two-in-one brow styler's are an interesting product... I'm a dark brunette, close to black and I use shade 6, but they have many shades. I've yet to find a product that matches me the way this one does, although I know darker hair is probably easier to deal with. They're drugstore and if I'm not mistaken the owner of the company is an African-American woman. You can usually find them next to Beauty Bakerie
I'm not trying to brag but I feel kinda genius for figuring out exactly this on my own quite a few years ago😁💪 Enjoying the video and your beautiful face and face art every time though!
I have cool blonde hair and super blonde parse brows. Ive been using cool brown to fill them in lately, but it doesnt look right. I think im gonna go back to cool gray and mix a little brown for some depth. Eyebrows are so stressful to fill in for me, so thank you for your tips 🤎✌️
I also use the NYX brow pen in Taupe...and I have very dark brown hair/brows. But when I use a dark brown pen, it's too dark. Another great video Alex!
Really helpful video, thank you. I'm a big fan of NYX brow products, accessible and affordable. I use a combination of Taupe and ash brown (can't say I've seen the grey/black here in the UK but will definitely have a look for it).
Ok, basically if you have a brow product that you love but the color pulls to warm on you, you want to balance that by layering it with another brow product that is more cool toned.
I have the lift and snatch tint pen in ash brown It’s pretty alright in matching my hairs just not good enough Their brow mascara in cool ash brown is a perfect match and I also have the tinted glue in dark brown and it’s pretty good
I have full black brows and if I use black pencil or powder it’s too much and I look like Groucho Marx immediately. I’ve been using the taupe FILL & FLUFF EYEBROW POMADE PENCIL from NYX and it’s been so nice to use. Then I go over it with eyebrow gel from got2b to keep them in place and makes it look clean. I can’t even use the wowbrow from Elf any more because it deposits too much fibers. I’ll have to try out this pen next time. Thank you Alex.
Just this morning I seriously considered shaving my eyebrows off! I think I tried every brow pen on the market. Even if it seems like the color is ok initially, as the day goes by, it oxidizes and changes color once it warms up on the skin😔
Have you tried Milani Weekend Eyebrow Tint? It’s a pen and I’d pretty much given up on all brow pens. They usually ended up too thick looking on me and IF I got real thin hairlike strokes I had to spend soooo much time doing it and even then I’d mess up a ton throughout. A friend recommended the Milani Weekend Eyebrow Tint and I’d never even heard they had a brow pen! So I gave it a try. I got the shade Espresso because I have dark brown hair but muted black kind of charcoal grey brow hairs. And the espresso works well and actually isn’t too dark and isn’t warm at all (most brow products in black/espresso were way too dark for me but browns were always way too warm). It gives me such thin hair like strokes without even trying! It’s so quick and easy and I never even mess up! If you haven’t tried that one, I’d definitely recommend trying it because I was like you and thought I’d tried them all and just couldn’t find one that works…until the Milani one!
Fantastic episode Alex. Thank you for the detailed description. This will help me a lot!!! Oh also loved your Japanese Makeup episode. It was an incredible look! 😘
Very helpful, Alexandra! Thank you! I have also been loving the NYX brow pens but have the same issue with the taupe. It can look very “faded tattooed brow” if you know what I mean. The solution with the warmer pencil is perfect!
Your lips are so gorgeous! Love the lip color you’re wearing! What color and brand is it ? It’s just perfect for your skin tone . I have a hard time finding good shades cuz I’m a peach toned redhead. Things always look too warm or cool on me . This color seems to be one you wear a lot . Thank to you! Great video!
I couldn’t see the difference but thanks for all the information. I have the weirdest brows and have not been able to find a product that works well. Very frustrating..
