After playing it for a few hours, I can honestly say that both sides are two of the best overdrives I've played, and together they are incredible. I've had a Protein on my board as my main drive for a while, and for my applications, the Big Herc blows it out of the water! Really nicely done, no buyer's remorse in sight with this one 😂 P.S.- I did need to put some nail polish on the little notches in the small knobs because I could not see where it was set at all unless I put my face right up to it 😅
Better than the Protein ey?! I got a Protein when it was first released. The Blue Side was amazing but I wasn’t to happy with the Green ODR side so I sold it. Later on I started to think I didn’t give the Protein enough time. I been starting to regret I sold it. A few of my pals say it’s their favorite. However, maybe I need the Herc instead?
This pedal is very versatile. My favorite feature is how well it responds to the guitar’s volume knob, very much like an overdriven amp would as well. This allows you to have a slight breakup all the way to very saturated OD, especially the D style Herc side of the pedal. If you want to thicken up the sound with an extra amount of saturation you can stack the Rune. Very good and sounds like an amp.
No. This is OUR drive section. (Great demo and great pedal, as usual. Love the sounds you keep recording out of that plugin rig, I would've never guessed it wasn't a mic'd amp.)
Nice job, Zach! Got mine from CME yesterday. This is awesome, quality amazing as usual. I already love pairing this with the Cestus and my Plexi. Tonal flexibility, baby.
Pedal sounds great - Congrats! Suggestion - add some type of color stripe onto the smaller tone knobs. All black makes them darn near impossible to read looking down at your pedalboard. I have this issue with other pedals I own. Rock on.
Zach, Received mine this morning. Spent about 10 minutes on it. I can safely say this is THE one I have been looking for and I own quite a few pedals. Plugged in my LP Standard and on the settings where they were sounded amazing, a couple of small tweaks and I was where I wanted to be. Plugged in my Explorer, oof, sounded equally as good. I don't think out of all the overdrives I have I have been able to get to where I want to be as fast, so that was a big plus. The only tiny niggle I have is it would have been nice to have a small white spot or whatever on the voice, bass and clarity buttons but it isn't a big deal. Overall, the short time I tried it, it's fantastic. I shall be winding it up further tonight. Thanks from the UK :)
Picked mine up from Midwood Guitar Studio today. Sounding pretty sweet so far. The left side has a pretty tight gain sound thing going for it, which is what I was looking for in this pedal. Going to use it at a show on Saturday and see how it works with the whole mix. Thanks for the time, effort and simple and awesome pedals! They sound great and keep me focused on the music!
Awesome! How do you think this compares to the D+M drive from Keeley? I love the Mick/boost side - and leave it on most of the time, but don't really use the Dan side. Would I be able to get a similar "boost" tone from this pedal?
Just got mine this morning and spent an hour with it after having played with my normal Protein , odr1& lightspeed. It more than holds it's own right out of the box. Can't wait to get inside and tweak it to work best with my Black Cat........although as I said it already sounds pretty great.
Absolutely loved checking this out and meeting you guys at Namm. It does everything I could need in a drive section, perfect versatility. It was also great to try out your other pedals that I hadn't yet.(I have a Herc v2, Mjonir, and Golden Fleece and they are all favorites) I'm excited to have a Fates on the way and I'm sure this won't be far behind!
Great video and thanks for explanation. The NAMM videos were bit confusing, you was probably too tired and mixed couple things, great to see it explained. Question, how does the Herc side differs from your Herc version 2 ? Besides the different clipping option. PS: I was surprised to like the "no clipping" option on Herc the best
Sounds amazing, but I hope you also do a demo into just a regular working man’s amp like into the clean channel of a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe or Deville just to hear how it sounds that way for those of us still using amps on our gigs (I know that’s getting to be less of us). Sounds great either way. Thanks
"transparency, quote unquote…" I have notice that a lot of players confuse 'bright' for 'transparent.' I watched a video recently comparing a few pedals that i had owned in the past. The vast majority in the comment section pointed to the brightest one as the most transparent. The thing was that his dry guitar tone was really dark, like the neck pickup on a 335. The pedal actually colored the tone more than the others.
Zach-I have commented this before, but your feel and vibrato is first class. Intro tune was absolutely awesome. I would consider doing a version with separate I/O ala the Wampler dual pedals... For us loop switcher guys 😘
I want a pedal that can afford to drive an old and ragged Land Rover Defender as a daily driver and wears the same pair of handmade boots all year. Oh wait, that’s what my Brownface Deluxe does.
I think you are Killing it and I gotta have one, lol. I do like a blend knob to blend clean signal in to taste, But It sounds like that pedal covers so much ground i gotta have it. I have a nobles odr1 custom built. along with a klon and a lightspeed, and i blend them in different ways, I hoping to replace that with a pedal like this, but then I have a MXR 5150 overdrive for the meaner stuff. ,, I`m getting this pedal,... Thank you..
I'm too lazy to read through the comments and find out if I'm the only one who thinks the direction toggle is backward lol Easy enough fix, incredibly diverse pedal. I've been in love with the Protein longtime, but this does way more. We'll see after more demos come out; the Protein does a thing, so I'm a tough sell but impressed.
You can't switch the order toggle to go the other way, unless you desolder it from the board. The switch bat points to whatever circuit is first in the signal path
@@MythosPedals I figured one could simply loosen and spin the toggle itself? I think of direction rather than first, but I’m sure if it’s not spinnable it’s easy to get used to . . .
This is awesome. So many ways to sculpt the gain! I love my Boogie mk35 for it's gain sculpting abilities, but it's voiced a little high in the midrange for some situations. This seemingly will bring that capability to my other amps. Great job Mythos
