I've just watched Hacksaw Ridge and came here to see the man himself. The word hero gets thrown around a little too easily nowadays, this man is the textbook definition of a hero. Nice to see he went on to enjoy a happy life.
you probably dont care at all but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I love any help you can give me!
I'm proud to say Desmond Doss is from my home town, Lynchburg Virginia. We have many things here in place for a memorial to Desmond Doss. His old home has also been turned into a home for homeless veterans. God greatly used Desmond. We are so proud of him! He was true blue thru it all.
I’m also from Lynchburg, still here, but it’s sad how some places like the Lynchburg hospital where his wife worked is a run down section 8 apartment building now.
I couldnt have put it any better cuz im exactly the same way after watching this. One day I want to visit his grave and pay him the respect he so deserves. A true role model for so many.
He lost a lung and ribs from tuberculosis after the war. Truly a fighter. Use to stop at the truck stop in Rising Fawn all the time, never knew l was so close to greatness. See you in heaven Desmond.
Very humble man, and a great job done by Mel Gibson in the telling of his story. Goes to show that it's very courageous to stand up for what you believe in, and in the end God will take care of you.
I met Desmond Doss and he is a special person to meet and a christian man and is dedicated to family and God's work. Im a Ga.lady who is a seventh day adventist he came to our church and spoke about his life and his book about Hacksaw Ridge. He is a very special person and an honor meet a hero whom God used in this war to save lives so greatful for his service to our country.Thank you!🇺🇸
This was amazing to see. My Grandpa was Fred Carr. Seeing this video allowed me to let my son see the great-grandfather he never got a chance to meet. Thanks for posting it. It really meant a lot to me.
My hat is off to your grandfather and every hero that served with him; also best wishes and earnest prayers for you and your family. Both of my grandfathers served in that war and I have nothing but respect for everyone involved.
Fred Carr was my uncle. My father Edward Albert Carr was his youngest brother and we use to have family reunions at their home when we started having reunions.
God bless your Grandpa and God bless Desmond. We were so lucky to have a man like Desmond. He showed us that humans have the ability to achieve greatness simply through caring for others. You don't have to be smart or talented. All you have to do is sincerely care.
I'm an old, ordained, Baptist Minister. My mother and two younger sisters are sincere 7th Day Adventist and I would like to defend 7th Day Adventists. They do nothing, and believe nothing that would be in opposition to the Bible. Adventists are often maligned by ignorant people. I'll happily stick with the Baptists but would never insult or disparage their beliefs. The DAY will come for all of us to see Truth. This man is the epitome of what Jesus wanted for all of us.
There is NO limit to what we can accomplish when we trust and obey Holy God, wholly, as evident in the life of this CHRISTian, Desmond Doss!!! What an inspiration to me and how glorifying to Jesus Christ!!!
Doss to those guys was a miracle. A patch of light in the middle of hell, taking nothing, but giving everything he had. Amazing man and ambassador for humanity and courage in the name of kindness
A true angel in combat just think of all the people that this man saved and all of the children that wouldn't be here if not for this Man may God Bless him
So sad that after all he did and all the people he saved he barely had enough money to live and take care of his family when he got out. True meaning of a hero.
@@Itslib0124 he unfortunately couldn’t get a full time job because of his injuries from the war but he did have money because of his pension but I’d have to look again but he probably was able to get a good job somewhere and sometime
no disrespect to Desmond, I thought he was mad, then I read up on him, and I learnt this man was a true hero, as much as I enjoyed Hacksaw Ridge, I also watched The Conscientious Objector documentary about him...It is a shame the world does not have more Desmond Doss' in it...The man is a true hero
A guy in the British Royal Air Force, stood 5ft 7inches and weighed about 10 stone. Skinny runt who his squadron believed would never be able to react in an emergency, because of the way he talked and his build. Going on board a navy ship, he and three others were badly injured when the gangway collapsed and they fell 30 feet into the harbour. Despite suffering multiple life threatening injuries, he supported one of the other victims until help arrived. They didn't think he was injured because he was swimming around and helping the girl. When his boss walked into hospital to see him he said, 'well done you proved us wrong'
@@Anti-leftist7777look at all the folks who lost jobs the last few yrs because they refused experimental meds at risk of total alienation from friends & family. It may not be on this level but I expect many would risk life & limb too
I can’t believe 75 humans gave a thumbs down . Desmond Doss is the bravest man I have ever heard of. I am commenting about this on this day 11/03/2020 when the world is in a stupid panic about a flue virus that they have a 99 percent chance of surviving. It looks to me like we now have world of gutless wimps. Thank you Mr Desmond Doss for being a true hero.
Platoon Leader says "It was a miracle he was not hit", actually he was wounded three times, the last being a few dozen pieces of shrapnel from a grenade and having his left arm shattered by a Sniper. I am truly humbled by knowing men such as Desmond Doss serve our beloved nation. Few and far between.
Just watched Hacksaw Ridge and can't express how impressed I am by this man. No amount of gifts or tributes will do him justice. A true hero in its purest form.
You would never see prizes given away so freely on the British version. However, Desmond deserved everything he got, on that show, great is his reward in Heaven! Rip Desmond. A true biblical hero!
Wow! Beautiful "This is Your Life." Cause I'm proud to be an American and a Seventh Day Adventist. Praise the Lord, he used him to carry out His mission (save lifes).
I knew Desmond and he was a Godly humble man. Not one knowing him can not examine his own life and say am I True to my own self and God and say ,"Yes."
I watch the movie every time it's on TV. What a humble dedicated man. Didn't know his whole story though he just didn't stop until he was sent home, I guess a movie can only cover so much. What a life, I think God recruited a true guardian angel for WWII.
The fact every guest brought out, even his superiors, rush to him, and eagerly embrace him, says so much about Desmond and the authenticity of the man and his heroics and character.
This man is my new hero! I was stationed on Okinawa in 1979 during peace time. I was 17. My time there was a walk in the park up against Mr. Doss's time. I have so much respect for him and those that he marched with. Heroes for real!
It just goes to show that it isn't always the tall well built in your face gung ho type that are the bravest. He showed the whole of the American Army that you don't judge a book by it's cover.
I loved Hacksaw Ridge. This presentation was awesome. I'm glad he received all the accolades during his lifetime. I was clapping right along with the audience lol.
I could write all night and still not be able to convey my thoughts about this man. When you think you have read and watched all there is about the heroes that have walked among us then you stumble across the story of Desmond T Doss. A war hero unlike no other I have read or heard about that becomes a giant among them all. I am in awe of this man and what he did for the men he describes as his buddy's, a lot of them who barely gave him the time of day in the beginning but were proud and grateful to have known him by the end. An amazing story that is long over due from being told. I'm very happy to see a movie has been made about him, more of us need to know about this man. The world would be a much nicer place if more men like Desmond T Doss were in it.
They desperately want to hug each other in a full embrace. You can see the love and respect these men have for one another above everyone else on earth. But two men hugging wasn't appropriate, so they grip one another triceps on the shaking hand. But notice how physical it is and how close they get to one another. One in a million
They do that because they SURVIVED together. They were closer than brothers at one time. Their lives depended on it. A lot of you will never know that feeling. God bless America and Des Doss.
I only met Desmond Doss once. He signed a small Bible for me that I expected to take with me when I entered military service. I never did. The Army said I wasn't physically fit enough. I'm almost sure that Mr. Doss didn't like being "honored". He accepted it as a way to encourage other young men to have the courage of their convictions. How sad that people who could be commenting on the value of courage and conviction choose instead to argue about jewelry! I'm also almost certain that Mr. Doss' convictions came from his own personal study of the Bible and his relationship with the same God who gave Daniel and his companions their courage--not from his affiliation with a religious organization. A true Christian's religion is personal--not institutional. I'm not in the habit of saying that a person is or isn't a Christian but, other than Jesus himself, can you think of anyone whose Christianity you would rather emulate than that of Mr. Doss?
"As long as America is America will honour the man of strong faith and of physical and moral courage" Good luck to all the world from a fella from Belfast Ireland.
@@colinbanning9416 I agree but i think people like Desmond are not that rare. There are many good people. Desmond is more of a special case because of the adversity he faced getting into the army and then the absolute acceptance of him by the men he served with. His is a particularly touching story that leaves me completely humbled. I wonder how badly the men who originally rejected him must have felt.
@@Will_CH1 12 hours on hacksaw ridge encarpment under brutal japanese sniper fire and artillery....without a weapon pulling 75 wounded comrades to safety without regard for his life for the sake of his comrades.....Id say that is very rare! 1 in 1000000.
This man not only saved 100 guys but he changed how thousands of men saw life, god and a simple man after seeing Desmond do what he did and after everyone thought he was a loser
The MOH is awarded NOT WON he earned the MOH with by his heroic actions! Thank you for this amazing story. I am 72, I used Gleem toothpaste as a 10 year old. I saw his movie, one tough man. Great show !
Saw the amazing movie, Hacksaw Ridge , yesterday and was pleased to find this episode of "This is your life" honoring Desmond Doss, an incredible man of faith and a true hero. What a tremendous story of self-sacrifice and courage. He truly lived God' s command to lay down our lives for our fellow man.
R.I.P Desmond Doss, you were a true hero and your deeds have made you immortal and an inspiration to all men and women who have and continue to face the horrors of war. It's men like you that may one day end all wars and bring global peace to our world. Till that day comes, may you be at peace with your Dorothy and keep a watchful eye on your family, for they will surely see you again in heaven.
God bless this man, a real man of GOD, people were so honourable and respectful to others back than, good to see this show is even kind of funny with the sights and sounds of the past:>)
I saw Hacksaw Ridge last night and it is great movie. It doesn't portray his life or actions on Okinawa with 100% accuracy but than no movie ever does that. Andrew Garfield's role is convincing and powerful. The battle scenes are intense and graphic and the sound effects are epic. You can hear the sounds of bullets slamming into their targets, whatever that may be. It is a bit slow in the beginning as it develops background on Doss but once he enters the Army it grabs your attention and keeps it for the rest of the film. The theater was packed with only a few empty seats and the audience applauded when it ended. Go see this one.
MrBusholiday I just finished watching a Documentary about him and those he served with and saved. It was a terrific documentary on a Christian channel.
Watching this brought tears to my eyes, which for me is a very rare event. Desmond Doss is a hero who represented bravery and humility on a level beyond human understanding; only God could so empower a man like this. I so look forward to meeting Desmond in Heaven!
He gave it all in the battlefield, the only thing left is meekness,or humility,a quality that will bring you to the feet of God.Thank you for his parents for a fine upbringing and his church for centering his beliefs in God.
i am glad i spent the time looking at the film and looking at this mans story a true Hero and Gentleman Thank you for your service Sir R.I.P. Mr Doss.xx.
The true embodiment of the American spirit, the world needs more people like this, not just heroes, but plain genuine good people with strong morals and unshakable faith, a remarkable yet humble man.
A handsome gift package to one of the most deserving people that ever lived. This man is beyond a legend! I hope he got his extra ten acres and enjoyed his car, tractor, tools and everything else, for if any man ever earned it he surely did.
I wonder why I never heard of this Man before, a true Hero in every aspect of the word. Putting his own life on the line so that others could survive, yet with no intention of taking life from anyone along the way, regardless of how dangerous circumstances were at the time. The joy of owning and giving of his beliefs without ever compromising them, ...rewarded here by the giving of Joy.
O U T S T A N D I N G show. Top notch recognition of D. Doss' heroism, faith and character, all exemplary. What a wonderful and joyous occasion. Great gifts too. Many thanks for the upload of this particular TIYL recording of Doss, a valiant and memorable SDA.
A man of deep conviction, faith and courage were the cornerstones of his life. I loved this video with the silly commercials, it was so live and rushed. Deep into the Wayback Machine. Undaunted to serve his country and his Creator absolutely fearless. The flash in his eyes when the BIG ASS tractor with all the assorted top of the line attachments was announced defined the man.......... priceless! A hero if ever there was one.
hero, is not the word for this amazing man!!! he was so much more then a hero. I'm all but convinced, that we had a REAL LIFE PROPHET in a lifetime. it is SIMPLY NOT POSSIBLE, to run into the active face of death COUNTLESS TIMES, and come out uninjured. I never knew this man, but I can say without question, that I am love him like a brother. God blessed Desmond Doss, and we all owe him our love and respect.
Beautiful. The humility in this man and the awkwardness to the camera he and the men commending him show is night and day to todays "Celebreties" What a wonderful person.
It's incredible to watch this .. I love watching Doss's behavior :) it's full of compassion and care. He didn't give all to get noticed or awarded , he did it because the Lord put it on his heart to do so . Truly amazing
