When Camp Meeting was previously held beginning Memorial Day weekend, a special feature was part of every Monday evening program. In 2003, Florida Camp Meeting was honored by the presence of Desmond T. Doss to joined the program.
showmethedammovie Mel Gibson said that if they put everything in the movie whay Doss actually did, people would never believe it, so they left out lots.
At present, we have no reliable information to say what his heritage/culture origin was. Perhaps he could trace his ancestry to Jewish roots. Maybe not. All we can say for certain is that he was a practicing Seventh-day Adventist, and that in his time, there was not yet any such thing as Messianic Jewish-Adventist congregations like there are today.
When I met him, I asked him to sign my Bible on an inside blank page. He laughed and said "Remember, I am signing it, not autographing it." We enjoy visiting his gravesite and remembering his contribution to this world.
The only ones I could think of that didn't like this would be islamists, SJW, BLM and pretty much anyone else who hates America for no good reason. But it's okay. There's always going to be some jerks out there who has no respect for anyone or anything. Let them bitch all they want. It won't leave an impact. Desmond Doss has had a bigger impact on our hearts than those people ever could. And those jerks are just jealous.
My 8-year-old son and I watched Hacksaw Ridge last weekend. At the end we learned he had died back in 2006. My son said, "That's sad, it would have been nice to meet him."
As a muslim i have a big respect for this christian american soldier. Armies, leaders and generations should be inspired by him and learn what do piety, peace, and a life value mean. R.I.P
He was a true hero ,I'm a baptist and I disagree with adventists but who could deny this great man had a a faith that goes beyond denominations or church roles he lived out his love for the Lord . I hope in heaven to meet him someday on that golden shore and shake his hand
You know you loved a movie so much when, after it ends, you watch videos of it on youtube. Cannot believe the resamblences. Amazing that someone really did such amazing things
I don't care what religion you are - or if you aren't religious at all, you can't not look at this man in awe, doing so many amazing amazing things, and still putting all of his glory to god.
How many people are alive today because of this man. What an example to all men, if ever a man deserved the title 'hero" this man does. Thank God for the gift of Desmond Doss.
"Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." Jesus
This man LIVED his faith, and under the harshest conditions possible. Most others TALK and TALK as they have throughout history and hold themselves high (me included). Only a handful take God's message into their heart not matter the price they might pay.
I'm Catholic and I have respect for any religion especially Christians because I believe we are believing in the same God just honoring saints and others. We believe in God after all
I've never cried or been touched so much during a war movie than I have with Hacksaw Ridge. And after learning more about the backstory of Desmond have made me more grateful and appreciative of a hero such as him, history and goodness. The movie embodied so much of the story as with values and staying true to oneself regardless of what others believe, think or say towards; and to be of service. Regardless of politics or beliefs you can't NOT be touched by the movie or Desmond. All is truly of our values and beliefs and the world needs more of it today. God bless.
Thank you Desmond T. Doss for your service to your country. A true American hero. Thanks to Mel Gibson for bringing Hacksaw Ridge to the screen. I have watched this film 4 times in the last two days and cried every time. I wish this film had been made earlier than it was. Thank you so much.
Desmond Doss was the embodiment of what it means to be an American and a true believer in Christ! I hope I see Desmond up in Heaven! No man could do what Desmond did alone! Thank goodness he had help from the man upstairs!
Desmond is an amazing war hero. He saved soldiers without a weapon. He is very brave and courageous. Doss deserves those medals and honor. May he rest in peace.
I speak not for a denomination, nor for any select group. But merely as a man in awe, and of my commanding respect. The world was a better place for the Deeds of this man, and the Legacy he left behind.
Watch at 2:25, how the soldier assisting Doss expected to go one step at a time... but the old war hero can't take on step at a time! Stirs emotions that are beyond words
His citation is worth at least Two to three Medal of Honor.. He is on the same level as Pvt Audi Murphy and Sergeant John Basilone. I would also like to honor all the other nationalities who won their highest military award for bravery in combat. Only the finest in humanity can give themselves for their friends and comrades
R.I.P. Desmond Doss See you when you rise with those "who have fallen asleep.... and we who are alive and remain are gathered together".... with you.... "to meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we always be with the LORD." A true Christian hero, walking out the journey inspired by Jesus life. An example for us in the last day(s).
so much love and respect for this AMAZING human being. his way of life was so unlike anyone who ever lived. he was an angel walking among us. so sad how we dont learn about him in school. he deserves all the attention we can give him . may you rest in paradise Mr. Desmond T Doss.
