This Is Your Life - Michael Aspel 

He seemed very shy and uncomfortable here but what a turn out. Never seen an edition with guests having to stand and so many ! Can't believe he is 90 now. Another thoroughly nice guy no scandal no drama just a decent person to the core

Had the pleasure of meeting Michael Aspel in 1986 ,I was a contestant on the TV quiz " child's play" whilst Michael was the quiz host,a very down to earth gentlemen,a nice man.

If anyone could follow in the footsteps of Eamonn Andrews as presenter of This Is Your Life, it could only be Michael Aspel.

How lovely and what a gorgeous and popular man he was and still is. I used to love this programme when I was a child. Innocent times.

Looking at that scene in his parents house having a get-together, really makes you realise how much native culture the UK has really lost…

Happy 90th Michael Aspel!

My parents lived in Earlsfield and as a boy used to see Michael visiting his Mum. Also he came to our school to record a radio schools programme about being evacuated using my class to do the re-enactments and he played a record for us all the following day on his Capital Radio morning show.

This is bittersweet as I know that Eamonn Andrews would pass away sometime later. I love "This Is Your Life". I'm from the United States, so this is a different format than Ralph Edwards's version. This is awesome.

Recording his 'life' on the set of Give Us A Clue, may have seemed like a good idea, but towards the end it did show up the limitations of the Studio 2 small set. And that cast list at the end was weird even for TIYL. It appears that they piggybacked on the Give Us A Clue series wrap party, and made use of all the celebs that took part in that series who just happened to be at Thames Teddington on that night. Too crowded even for This Is Your Life - and who was that chap who turned up as Eamonn was wrapping up? Even Aspel though he was the traditional surprise 'last one through the door' guest, but no. Just missed his cue from behind the stairs, it appeared.

Aspel married actress Elizabeth Power, best known for her role as Christine Hewitt in EastEnders; the couple had two sons, but Aspel left her in 1994 for a production assistant on This Is Your Life, Irene Clarke.

The edition of Give Us A Clue that was just filmed before Eamonn Andrews pounced was broadcast on October 13th 1980 & the edition is included in the new 13 disc Give Us A Clue DVD boxset.

The following year after this was broadcast Michael got gunged on Kenny Everett's ITV series on the Star Quiz segment of the programme.

I suppose he didn't plan to follow in Eamonn Andrews' footsteps at that time, but ... did they get Eamonn Andrews in the same way? I suppose not. They missed out The Goodies because he was on that TWICE as a "news reporter" - INCLUDING the King Cat story!
