On December 19, 1956, the life of "Miss Pearl" Routon, from Paris, Tennessee, was featured on Ralph Edwards' "This Is Your Life," one of the most popular TV shows of that time. A portrait painter, horticulturist, musician, florist, and humanitarian, Miss Pearl was an honorary colonel on the staff of Governor Frank Clement. She was the person who chose the iris to be the State Flower of Tennessee, and she painted the oil portraits of several of the state's governors.
