Totally agree, I just get tired of people demonizing snakes, but I understand ppl fear what they don't understand. So just comes down to ignorance

I'm absolutely furious about this add...enclosure is too small to provide temperature gradient, no basking light, no UVB, no water dish, no hide. With an open top like that, how the heck can you keep the humidity between 60-80%? We need to put a stop to the abuse of CGI Cornsnakes...

So I don't fully disagree with this, but I have to say a big part of why people in the hobby probably feel some type of way about this ad is not that they see it as abuse. That snake is fine, and partially/fully CGI so calling abuse is a bit silly. I didn't see the outrage on discord for the record so I'm only speaking to my own thoughts when I saw this ad, and for the record I am not outraged or calling for any business to be boycotted. When I saw this ad, I did sigh. For me, it's the fact that it sets back our efforts to show people that snakes are not all venomous, evil, and something to be feared. Ads like this demonize them and keep people thinking this way. Many people who demonize and fear snakes, kill snakes. I think what you and other creators do here on RU-vid helps combat that type of thing, but there is no doubt that the reach an ad like this has is incredibly powerful when it is broadcast on television/online to millions of people. It's damaging, regardless of it being abusive, and I don't think it's wrong to have that opinion.

When I saw this ad on FB, all I could do is laugh. Then when I opened the comments, who was the top commentor? Clint's Reptiles. It was glorious. The ad is stupid, but it's harmless. There are definitely bigger things to worry about than this ad.

I def agree with this, and I'd even go a step further and say that this kind of conversations should be happening more often about life in general. People getting so focused on "issues" when there are REAL problems we should be focusing on and talking more about. If a quick harmless shake to some roaches is animal abuse, I would ask them how they think the food they're eating or the clothes they're waring was produced. REAL problems people, let-s not get lost in the senseless noise. Thanks for bringing this conversation to the table, props to you 👌

It's just weird that they chose to CGI a cornsnake instead of, like, a rattlesnake or something.

One of the problems we face today is the loss of nuance; we like to have everything black or white, right or wrong, good or evil. It should be possible to say, "There's a problem with this ad", contact Boost, and ask them to put some disclaimers up. If done right, it could increase the humor of the ad without increasing ophidiophobia in the general population.

I agree about when people put the price of animals down really low, it not only floods the market but makes it harder for reputable breeders to sell good stock, as well as makes it easier for people who are knew to an animal hobby of any sort, buy it and accidentally harm the animal. Sometimes prices being at a price that seems a little expensive for a common animal is actually the breeder making sure that their animals is going to a home that isn’t going to just let it sit and die.

I agree, I once posted on the tortoise forum about a tortoise I just got from a not so great situation for some advice. I stated that he was in the enclosure he came with and I was making him a huge enclosure well more than the minimum. I replied to one person who had actually read my post and gave some good advice, but the comments I got from most were all very negative and it was obvious that they hadn’t read what I posted.

Stuff like this always reminds me of the snake pit in the Vikings tv series. This king guy would yeet people in there to get bitten by the supposedly deadly venomous snakes and die. Then the camera pans over the interior of the pit and you see a bunch of ball pythons, boa constrictors, burms and I'm pretty sure I saw a corn and milksnake or two in there too, some 700ish(?) years before Europeans bumped into America. Not to mention it was cold as hell. The whole scene is meant as a tragedy, but the drink I was holding (and just taking a sip from) came back through my nose from laughing, while the person I was watching with was like "wtf that's horrible how is this funny".

As the guy in my community running a rescue. I have seen first hand the affects of over breeding I sit on leopard geckos because the pet shop has them for 20 and I want you to be ready so I want more. The boost ad is exactly what I knew you were gonna talk about. I kinda laughed it was a good ad that really negatively affected nothing

The concept of "throwaway animals" is way too common. Betta fish are a good example. They're often the most abused fish with inadequate tank setups and bad husbandry altogether. My last betta lived for 3 years and I'm still waiting to use the tank because I miss him a lot.

Honestly, the ad doesn’t bother me too much. The snake looks healthy, or it’s CGI, either one. As long as the snakes aren’t getting hurt, it’s fine. I mean, it’s not like a single ad is going to change peoples opinion on snakes. That being most people are afraid of snakes, and the snake lovers continuing to do their thing.

What I see in the ad? Well, a healthy and alert corn snake curiously slithering around, giving the idea of it protecting the phone. It does not appear to be in distress or hurting. If anything the stress factor could be compared to a reptile show, where animals are on display for sale. I honestly enjoyed the ad, I thought it was funny, thought through. As for the fear mongering aspect, maybe with a few people that don't have much common sense it might cause an issue, but I like to believe that most people won't give it a second thought... they see an ad, chuckle and move on. Mow that I think of it..... there is not much common sense left in this world. lol

I wonder how many of us saw this because Clint's Reptiles commented on the ad on FB. But most of the comments I saw were making fun of it rather than complaining.

Dude some people get offended so easily, personally I'd laugh if they had a crested gecko instead of a Snake. It's nice to see more reptiles featured in media, provided they treat them right.

Instead of getting angry about things, I use it as opportunity to educate. My heart is happier that way.

I thought it was a dumb ad. As someone who used to be afraid of snakes and now loves them, I didn't care for the "fear mongering." So I made a vid addressing how unrealistic the ad was and tried to educate, so if anyone came across it, hopefully it gives them piece of mind. Now I'm a nobody, but it's something I wanted to do. Should they be canceled? No. But it was a dumb ad.

All the self-righteousness and judging people of "animal abuse" drove me out of the exotic pet community ages ago. I was so sick of them backbiting, backstabbing and virtue-signaling, trying to ruin one another. Having said that, ads that aren't accurate about certain things, even the real obvious things can just annoy me. Like those crazy Cadbury kreme egg adds with a clucking bunny. Uh, people. Bunnies don't lay eggs. Just sayin'. Seriously though, I couldn't agree with you more on people getting all up in arms about silly things or because they misunderstand and misjudge someone as an "animal abuser". That kind of accusation can really ruin innocent people. Oh, and that stupid prankster? Yes, I agree, people like that should be outed. After watching the Boost Mobile Advertisement, I must agree that the snake was NOT being abused. 😌 The snake looks perfectly healthy, and was moving just fine. 🐍 The advertisement was a joke, and the way the man's face goofily swelled up makes it all the more obvious that you should not take it seriously. 😂🤣 Would have actually been more accurate if Boost Mobile had gone for a hognose snake, which truly can make you swell up, albeit not to that extreme for most people. 😲 If you want something to be mad at, let us get mad at the fact that most provinces in Canada outright ban constrictors over 3 metres, unless you maybe have a special permit or something. 😡 That MUST change! 👏🏾Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, you know who you are. 👀 I think, but I am not too sure, the maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland also have such stupid laws in place. 😑

i think the CONCEPT of the ad is fine whatever. Dangerous animal to indicate risk so the company won't have to show risk like behaviour and instead have it visual. Risk taker gets bit and gets concequenes haa haa funny joke buy the product. it's been done before. The execution of the ad is just....bad... For anyone who doesn't know snakes they won't like the ad because it gives the heebie jeebies. for anyone who does know snakes it's a joke of a ad because the suspension of disbelief is ruined for us. A box of bees with their logo on it would have done the same job but better because you don't actually have to use bees and it's more common to be allergic to that. Animal abuse though? ....Spreading of misinformation due to a lack of research sure. But ANIMAL ABUSE? No. Absolutely not.

I'm split on the add. Got three corns.The youngest (2yrs old) goes through a phase where he understands that my hands don't want to eat him but missed the memo that there's something between "if alive, either predator or food!" The worst about it? To discourage his attempts at the earliest signs because whole act looks so damn cute and hilarious while barely causing any damage. So, from a corn snake enthusiast's perspective, the video is hilarious. Also, the punchline isn't "ew evil evil snake" but "dum dum human, what did you expect, you fool", so, that's actually not quite wrong. Let's ignore the type of snake. There's a snake. You don't know it. Don't be an idiot and reach for it ffs why would stress it, do you want to get bitten?! Same with unknown dogs and cats btw. However, those not into snakes and who already don't like them won't see it that way. For them, it just feeds into the old narrative: snakes = bad and dangerous Also, I'm so tired of reptiles and amphibians in stressful, violent, and abusive situations = haha funny. Think of any animated movie or cartoon where a turtle, snake, or frog gets kicked, turned into a knot, or blown up like a balloon and imagine the creators had taken a kitten or puppy instead. I'm not going all PETA here and say "wah wah Mario is evil!" It's more about media that tends to glorify anything with fur and would cry bloody murder if a cat or dog was hurt for jokes with the same attitude as it's done with reptiles and amphibians. I am, however, a real baby about the glorification of morphs and breeding for morphs. It's nice that we can do so many crazy things with genes, just by sticking two snakes in one tank. But it creates an artificial market (and has for decades in the pet trade in general) where people a) think "this is rare and hard to achieve, there are only a few each breeding season and I am one of the lucky ones who could find and buy this special morph!" is the same as "I really think this is pretty and I like it" and b) often don't even know anymore what "normal" or "wildtype" actually is and how it looks like. When I post pics of my two normals, especially after a recent shed, and do not mention the morph, there's at least one "Wow, that snake is beautiful! What morph is that?!" comment, without fail. And one snake group over, a breeder posts a handful of curious little normal baby corns and labels the post as "The food". Yeah, subjectively, this hurts me bc I love normals but objectively, I know that's practically not different from feeding cute, fuzzy mice. Carninvours gonna carnivoure. But it's the casualness that morph breeding has created, that makes people look at normals and just see them as trash, and that non-breeders/newbies eagerly nod their heads because of point a) that I mentioned before. It's not corn specific, or even snake or reptile. It's a general gripe I have with the pet trade, the artificial market based on taught and learned pretentiousness that successfully whispers into people's ears that they hate certain colour and pattern mutations (or the lack thereof) because it's not unique=expensive enough. Thinking you can't have this or that morph because it's common and therefore makes you look cheap and unoriginal, no matter what you actually like, isn't love. It's ego.

What u guys need to be focusing on is fee handling idiots who keep getting bit, almost dying, losing appendages and then are like “wooooo I made it guys”… guys like chandler and Tyler Nolan are the worst possible thing for the hobby and becoming the face of the hobby for those outside of it… its so bad man..

In the sixth grade, I once found a deceased garden snake that someone was utterly cruel to. They shoved a stick down its throat and ran it through the entire length of its body. It made me sick to my stomach and forever made me squeamish around small snakes. People that are capable of that kind of cruelty makes my blood boil! It's what I immediately think of when I hear "animal abuse," and this commercial just simply doesn't fit that bill.

Will the ad hurt us/the hobby? Doubtful. Should we get all twisted up over the ad? Maybe yes, maybe no... I’m not going to lose sleep over it. Is the ad harmful to snakes? I’d say arguably yes. The ad does feed on people’s willful ignorance of snakes and that breeds fear of what they lack knowledge and understanding of. This could result in more “the only good snake is a dead snake” level of thought. This is a potentially harmful negative. The ad is meant to be silly and innocent, but the positives just don’t outweigh the negatives enough for me to laugh and smile at the ad. I think overall it’s an ad in poor taste.

This is one of those things where yeah I think the outrage is really silly, If it was a real animal I could understand it cus you have to stress animals out to get them to bite you no animal bites for no reason. But its CGI is not a real snake and like the guy that gets bit he reaches into the cage and gets bit. Snake here is not even portrayed as evil or in a negative light here like its a well known fact to not stick your hands in any animals enclosure because you can get bit. The guy in the ad does exactly that and he gets bit. The ad portrays it as well he asked to get bit by grabbing into its enclosure.

I found a channel called tarantula king live feeding animals to a bullfrog including a leopard gecko fed to a bullfrog..unessasary suffering.

I fully agree, most people who I know who dont know much about reptiles honestly treat every snake like its venomous either way, anf if peopke know this is a corn snake then theyd also know its not venomous. virtue signaling. it's been a thing for a LONG time, it just got louder with the internet. someone sees something they don't like and makes a scene. the internet has given these people a larger platform. which is not all bad, because it has also given a louder voice to people calling out stuff that is bad. People seem to forget there is a differance between "I don't agree with some of his keeping practices but his animals are healthy" and "abuse"'.

Firstly, awesome video. And I agree with the Hot topics being used for education only and for us to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. like people bringing up all kinds of points about invasive species, it might be a good conversation but is it really good to post all over social media for the enemy to make new laws with? no it's not. I know I kind of veered off the topic but it's kind of the same thing we're putting information out there that makes us look bad and we need to stop regardless of the conversation. We have enough trouble getting by In this hobby without our own people shining the light in our eyes.

People overreact, always will, they should put their energy into issues like overly cheap pets leading to what they inevitably get upset over. People talked about goldfish, etc in the same way, goes for all pets, which is an actual issue worth putting energy into.

Fear of snakes is one of the most universal fears on the planet. There have been studies that show children who have never even encountered a snake, and couldn’t even describe them when asked reacted to videos and photos of them with fear. So I think it’s safe to say that most people would understand the point the ad is trying to make without having to take on a new perspective on reptiles. This is not going to create a fear in anyone. It playing to something that already exists in a lot of people.

It just gets tiring when ppl put a bad rep on snakes even corn snakes which I have owned before and I'm not saying a corn snake won't strike at you bec sometimes they will but my corn snake never did that let alone bite me same with my ball python she has not bit me yet either but I also know when she wants to be left alone they do tell you before striking and I've had a lot of friends saying my ball python will eat me uhh no the fuck she won't

I'll admit, I don't know much about snakes, I only learn what little i known from videos like Snake Discovery and WWR and such. My memory is poor. But even I think that as long as the shooting scenes with the snake are quick, the only "issues" there might be is the small "cage" and that the snake might be getting a bit stressed from being in a small box, hence why it's going after the seems of the box trying to get out. Those are the only things I noticed that might be an "issue" with the ad.
