Last year, we spent a day with Shinohara Yuta, an entomophagist who eats and makes dishes using insects. Watch the video here ► • This Japanese Man Date...
His dream was to open an insect restaurant which he turned into reality. So we re-visited him on the day he opened his business for the very first time.
Special thanks to Shinohara Yuta for sharing his story.

At first I was like, “Hmmm...” Now, I’m cheering him on! It takes guts to open up a restaurant as niche as this and even more gutsy during this pandemic! I wish him the very best and though I hate insects, I actually would try this. They’re saying it’s delicious. I believe them. I’ve also heard they contain good protein.

Few years ago I was sceptical about eating insects as well. I generally dislike them, when one day I was offered free roasted crickets and mealworms to try. It took me 5 minutes starring at the cricket until I finally put one into my mouth and started chewing and to my surprise, it was very tasty. After that my fear was gone and I kept asking for more xD

These insects arent the typical ones u find crawling around the house or in the woods. They are raised and properly clean/handle for human consumptions. Similar to any other live stocks. Only difference is live stocks creates more pollution, take up more space, Less protein and raised in sometimes poor conditions. Also full of hormones and who knows what else. The meat industry needs to put all these hormones/antibiotics to speed up the growth of thse animals to keep up with damn. I'm pretty sure it doesnt take years for a cricket to go from fee arm to plate vs cows .

Hiroko is such a good sport, I really wouldn't have been able to eat the bugs but would have tried the ramen and broth. This was super interesting!

Wow! this looks awesome. When I clicked I thought this was about a cricket (sport) theme based restaurant in Japan since Japan recently introduced a cricket team at u19 level. This had a better ending that I imagined.

This guy could solve the locust plague problem in Las Vegas by just opening a branch there

It's all in the preparation and presentation. I once had crickets in Japan in a hot springs area, they were fried and honey glazed. It was OK, nothing special. I really want to try this tho, it seems they really took the time and care to make quality products, so I hope they last..at least don't close before I get there! 😭

Insects are just very tiny animals... Thus Yuta is a furry.

Great that he's doing well. I'm actually curious to taste these dishes he made. It's also good to know he gets them lab tested before actually using them

I wonder if Hiroko even liked the insects, from her face. She didnt even say " oishii!!", "sugoi!!".

Yum I love crickets!! Seriously, insects might look gross and creepy at first, but they taste absolutely delicious once cooked! ♡
