This video we go fishing for squid and cuttlefish! This time we have a small challenge which involves using a micro jig! Email - nevfishing@gmail.com Instagram - nevsfishing... Facebook - / nevsfishing
Gday Nev love your Squid fishing videos. My mouth honestly is watering all the way thru! I know you probably would never say it but I find it a bit over the top for fellow fishermen to ask for your fishing spots. That’s my opinion as a former passionate fisherman. 👍🏻
Nice work Nev, keep it going. I wish we in NZ had such bountiful and regularly large squid. I was taught squid fishing by a very experienced Japanese man. Sashimi was his favourite way of eating Broad squid (not my thing to be honest). BTW, he dissected a large Broad once and explained every internal part of the animal, what each part played and what was edible and what was not. It was very interesting.
Squid and calamari sashimi is absolutely delicious my #1 tip is to clean them in the salt water (head, wings and membrane off head and wings best Jew bait but back to the sashimi slice the calamari or squid into strip's length ways about 1/2 cm thick in 2 bowls have soy sauce in 1 and lime juice in the other place then in the lime juice for 30-60seconds then take out and dip in to the soy sauce and that's all you need to do
If you want to flavour it abit add some crushed garlic or finely sliced chilli to the soy sauce give it 10mins before dipping the squid/calamari into the soy sauce
Nice video. FYI, squids, cuttlefish, octopods, etc. do not store ink, they make it as they use it. A special pigment gland produces it and then it is mixed with water and squirted out.
I've done sashimi with that variety of squid, its perfectly safe and good with a bit of soy and wasabi. Its surprising how similar it tastes to when its cooked haha.
I almost only use small/micro jigs because the huge advantages are that you catch any size squids, even the most reluctants when the tide or moon phase is not good, or the ones that have already been hooked and you almost never lose a squid as they engulf fully the jig. That's a candy for any squid for sure.
Hi Nev, amazing video as always! I wanted to ask, how deep is the rod with the float? You said you fish in 4 meters deep water but the rod with the float seems to be set to 1-1.5m depth. Thanks!
Hello I'm from California I'm new to your fishing RU-vid channel I love and enjoy Pier fishing I also love to fish with micro metal Jigs and diamond jigs I also love using fresh water lures I like to experiment with different lures when fishing and just having fun I also fish to eat I love caching mackerel fish to eat
Hi there, I’m new to squidding, i live in Sydney, do you know anywhere I can chase squid land based? Just roughly, totally respect your exact locations, but if you have a rough idea I’d love any help you could give!
hey nev. where abouts is the location that you go to on your videos. i often fish for squid off the mornington peninsula but wanna go try out your spots for myself some day
hey young nev.. great vids champ. any chance you could do some gummy fishing from beach and jettys around your area that be good to see.. i enjoy the way you explain how you go about what you are doing.. maybe even do a blooper video just for shits and giggles.. any ways keep up the good work champion..
I've only just reintroduced myself to squidding, and I have proven twice now that small jigs catch more than big ones. My biggest problem is trying to find jigs that are small and heavy enough for the current where I fish
Why not look into some Egi weights? They're small, snap on sinkers. Usually in a nice glow-UV paint green, and would let you use a small jig with a greater weight! BCF, Anaconda and other sporting retailers here in Aus have em :)
well done mate, we do sashimi calamari all the time on the rocks. Clean it well cut it and eat with wasabi and korean chilli paste it's beautiful. Wish I could show you my photos.
Hi Nev, Thanks for your videos. I watched almost all. I 'd like to try squid fishing land based. Could you tell me what kind of jig you recommend?Do i have to buy expensive Japanese brands? How about the Kmart cheaper ones?? Thanks
I eat sashimi squid all the time. - I'm from japan live in Australia. As you said need to be careful about parasite. Chop and clean asap and cut thin then should be fine😊
you can do sashimi squid by cutting it up into thin slices and then use korean chili dipping sauce called , cho gochujang for sashimi. you can buy it from any Korean grocery store. just ask for gochujang sauce for sashimi. Its so nice
Hey Luke I am going to have a go at bream fishing in mordialloc creek as you recommended. I am going on Friday where would you say the best place to go is?
Not going to say exact locations mate but closer to the mouths of each entrance of Westernport where the water is clearer is where more of the squid are, as Reece said Cowes is a good place to start, also trying around Cape Woolami or Flinders. Just look for the clearer water on google maps make sure fish around high tide.
Redheads mate one of the best jigs next to the Haramitsu RR48 (Portsea Red). Those yamashita black, pink and orange do well in that size (Mornington especially). Funny thing is big jigs catch big squid, small jigs catch all squid.
Hey Mate. Great vid as always. I've been eating raw calamari since I was 3 yrs old (55 yrs ago). Best way is fresh caught in the boat. The small one you caught is perfect. If you bring em home to eat raw bring some sea water home in a bottle and wash it with that rather than fresh water which makes the squid tough. It tastes sweet and salty, I pit a bit of lemon and down the hatch, enjoy!
Nothing wrong with raw squid mate, I eat raw pippies, squid, fish, just keep them in a salt water slurry and everything is fine, still prefer to cook my stuff though
